Disney created FOMO by throwing videos in the disney vault for xyz decades. The term really wasn’t common before that.
Damn… almost 2 months without playing?
there’s nothing wrong with fomo/limited time items.
the anniversay event ran for a long time. if you couldn’t be bothered to up for a month to log in and get the rewards, too bad.
Only mods get to do this
FOMO isn’t a " limited time offer "
FOMO is gatekeeping something to artifically increase demand.
I got all of the anniversary rewards. It seems weird to me to make an event celebrating how long this game has been around and how we’ve all enjoyed playing it for that long, but be like “here’s some rewards that you can only get for a limited time every 5 years”.
Why though? It kind of defeats the point of the celebration of this game, no? It goes against the spirit of the event.
I would especially consider the armor sets to be more like “veteran rewards” like FFXIV has. I have no idea why they should be unattainable for a period of time. At least make them come around for the next event, that’s just weird.
Nope.
Want to just put forth your own opinion with no discussion to be had? Open a blog.
Nope. Not even close.
If you want a practical example of what FOMO is, here’s a scenario that demonstrates it:
FOMO is a particular type of peer pressure only caused by people to people by insinuating that people are missing out on something by not participating. Something merely existing for a limited time, whether artificially or not, has nothing to do with FOMO.
It is something one person causes another person by pressuring them personally and directly. You can do this with anything and everything.
A person is on a diet? “But the newly opened cafe has such good pastries!”
A person is tired and want to sleep? “But we don’t hang out that often anymore, can’t you stay awake for longer?”
Ya’ll who keep using FOMO but doesn’t get this are just misappropriating language that is damn handy to explain issues people face when disabled. Because yes, FOMO is used the most with people who want to do something but can’t because of disabilities, and people in their vicinity sees that they want to do stuff so they encourage it not thinking about that they are encouraging unintended and unwanted damage.
It is infuriating that ya’ll want to associate that … with folks with no self-control.
Bro your wall of text is so wrong.
FOMO is gatekeeping plain and simple. You don’t need to overexplain it badly.
it isn’t.
running a limited time event that is open to all who subscribe is not gatekeeping.
the very idea that companies shouldn’t do events because Sensitive Sally might miss out and be butthurt about it is insane.
gatekeeping would be “This event is only open to players above 2.5k io” or something like that.
It’s not but even if it was, some things need to be gatekept.
Gatekeeping isn’t always bad, it can be really good.
I still agree items being removed forever is stupid
But complaining you gotta wait a few years is more stupid
The anniversary event ran for like 11 weeks or more. I can’t even imagine what sort of medical emergency you must’ve had to not be able to play the game for three months.
uhmm but if they did and ppl who couldnt play bought them i wouldnt feel special abt my pixels on the screen anymore!!!
Bro, it was 11 weeks. That’s almost 3 months… At least you’ll eventually be able to get it again, unlike the manifold actual exclusive crap they’ve retired at the end of certain expansions and every PVP season.
Do don’t do content that isn’t fun no matter what the reward is
It’s a shift I’ve made in the past couple of years…it probably explains why I play so little now
In 5 years, I want HD tier 3 sets
In comparison to NEVER it is most certainly reasonable. I feel for you that real-life got in the way while this was all happening, but part of adulting is recognizing and accepting that you have to prioritize your time and that means insufficient time to devote to low-priority things (like gaming entertainment over extended duration family/work crisis).
It didn’t work out to get your pixel-bling for the 20th anniversary. So what, you managed to help deal with whatever kept you from the game and, taken in perspective, that’s much more valuable than some pixels you lease (and will NEVER own) for $15/mo.
That’s pretty smart but also very much against what this game tries to be which is making players do things they don’t want to do for fomo
