Kids and mean spirited people try to get threads suspended and banned. The Kids do it for kicks, and Lols. The adults do it for hateful spite. And even worse we get the Blizz-fan apologists. To them everything Blizz does is ok, regardless of what it is.
I really could careless. I specifically said what I did care about and other wise what I didn’t care about. If someone threatens to come to your house and murder you that is a problem. If someone is being blatantly racist, that also is a issue. I pvp a lot and there is plenty of things like this that happen on a daily / weekly basis.
If someone calls me a name, I generally won’t care. If they message me asking how many family members I have so they can make my family members watch them kill me that’s completely different. I don’t think anything outside of that needs to be censored/reported.
I think you meant to say you “really could NOT care less (two words)”.
Saying you really could care less would mean there is more room for less caring.
Saying “I really could careless (one word)” is just the word “be” away from saying you could be reckless.
Freedom of Speech, as written in the constitution, protects you from censorship from the government. It says nothing about private citizens or private companies. People often seem to misconstrue their rights granted by the constitution as blanket rights without realizing the constitution is a contract between the government and the people.
It’s a video game forum run by a video game company. This isn’t a center of public debate. Talk about the video games this company makes in a non-vulgar way and everything is fine.
Bring in divisive cultural and political issues to the company’s video game discussion forum and your stuff should be deleted.
There is no lack of places that you can engage in all the divisive political and cultural discussions that you want. People have never enjoyed as much freedom of speech in the history of the world than they do now.
Thats why if I dont want you in my store, I tell you to leave. I dont have to have a reason. Its my property. Criminal trespass has nothing to do about what you are saying. Its about being told to leave someones property and refusing.
Just as a point of interest:
Can business owners really refuse service to anyone?
Under federal anti-discrimination laws, businesses can refuse service to any person for any reason, unless the business is discriminating against a protected class.
At the national level, protected classes include:
Race or color
National origin or citizenship status
Religion or creed
Sex
Age
Disability, pregnancy, or genetic information
Veteran status
Some states, like California, have more protected classes than the federal baseline. In addition to the above factors, California adds:
Marital status
Sexual orientation or gender identity
Medical condition, or AIDS/HIV status
Military or veteran status
Political affiliations or activities
Status as a victim of domestic violence, assault, or stalking
The point is that the laws are diverse by federal as well as local. And contradictory.
If a business owner tells customers to leave the property, and the customer was not being rude or disruptive or with criminal intent. But just talking in civil manner with friends. The business owner could face legal repercussions depending heavily on the circumstances of the occurrence. It would take a judge and possibly jury to make a final decision on the case.
For further information:
Contact your state attorney general or consult a lawyer for details on how your state handles its particular anti-discrimination law.
And that brings me to an other aspect of this topic: Freedom of the Press.
The press is protected to print whatever they choose with out repercussions. The Press, i.e.
Newspapers are protected. These days News dissemination is also electronic. All television, radio, internet news services. Are all protected. To a degree that also applies to social media.
Forums although privately owned just like the News services, can be considered a information/news in gaming service. This can be explored further.
A business owner can do anything they want to do. And a professional business person would know not to kick customers out just because they felt like it. And under no circumstance exercise violence. The smart thing (legally speaking is to call the police).
And of course the high cost of lawyers and court fees are very high. Not profitable at all.
I do not believe anything should be censored at any time, regardless of how hurtful it could be to any one member of the human race, especially including myself.
However - if a private company distributed a product that I really want to use, and said - “Look, in order to use this, we ask that you don’t say the N word and call people the homophobic slur beginning with F.” - regardless of how little censorship I believe we need, I would absolutely follow their rule.
Why? Because I want their product and it doesn’t cost me anything extra to simply not be a complete C U Next Tuesday.
So, should nothing ever be censored, or do people and companies have the right to regulate what they will allow on their property? You can’t actually have it both ways.,
