Youre spare parts bud
Freedom of speech has had consequences since the founding of our country. Not necessarily legal consequences, but serious and often fatal ones. Alexander Hamilton died in a duel as a consequence of speech. It isn’t some magical shield that protects people from ostracizing, criticizing, firing, attacking or outright killing you. Speech has always come with heavy palpable consequences in this country. The founders dueled over words.
Oh then I am officially offended, lol. But on the other hand it does imply that one person has greater knowledge than another person. Which on a forum you really don’t know what the other person knows. It also implies that Your opinion is the right one. And in effect denigrates the other persons opinion as being invalid. Just saying.
I think you’re overthinking what uneducated means. If you don’t know that a theater is private property, for example, that’s just something you’re able to learn. It doesn’t make you stupid, it doesn’t make someone who knows smarter than you. It’s an exchange of information.
I think every last sentence of BOTH sides should be removed from the forums. There should be no mention of real life hot button issues in game or on the forums. I come here and to wow for an escape and I am sick of the constant brigading.
Aggressive centrism is a bold choice.
Ultimately I wouldn’t mind if it were all gone from the forums, but I also don’t really support complete and utter censorship on the forums. Bit of an impasse.
But that’s just it Even in my original post I said that Private entities were not affected by the constitution. I have also said the a theater is a private entity.
If you read through the entire post. You will notice that people keep saying all kinds of untrue things about my opinion and what I said. It’s almost as if people have not even read my original post fully or are intentionally mis-quoting me to make a point.
On the one hand, a forum post is something you can read or ignore; on the other hand, a forum post is intended to be a communication to a community, not a private conversation.
Neither analogy is perfect (analogies never are by definition) but theirs is at least as good as yours.
You already know the U.S. Constitution only protects us from the U.S. government. And it barely does that as it is, need to defend that right at all costs. As for commercial censorship, well you already have the power ignore that. Just don’t do business with a company that doesn’t let you blurt out whatever you feel like blurting out. But usually companies have such restrictions to protect their paying customers from said blurting.
I can’t control other people. I never made any conscious effort to misrepresent you, myself.
My goal was to clear up why it being private property was important, as it does change what your options look like for a dispute about infringement. I think we mostly came to an understanding, yeah?
There is a tremendous amount of hate from conservatives on these forums.
It’s a video game and they are using these forums to bash perceived homosexuality in a video game.
It is sad and quite snowflakey.
Yes my friend.
They need harsher punishments in terms of vacation time. Them letting jerks run rampant for so long is what damaged the community in the first place.
Its about time they retook the reigns and let people know…not here.
Yup. I keep getting cease and desist letters for encouraging women in SC and TX to get abortions in other states or do it themselves. They tell me the website I’m trying to set up (flushafetus) is illegal. I should have the freedom to tell women in those states how to abort their babies.
and everyone knows that this is just a suggestion. free speech doesn’t actually exist. it’s all a lie.
There is a tremendous amount of hate (from any and all extremes) on the internet these days. It tends to bleed over into forums like these but this thread, so far, doesn’t seem to be infected.
This thread is still going? OP wins.
It only exists for either the extremely wealthy or insane people on the street. Everyone else needs to measure their words extremely carefully in all situations.
In that case, why haven’t any ever been charged with murder?
This is specific and on purpose.
It’s to ensure you can always speak against the government without fear of reprisal (an issue they faced in England previously), but expressly not stopping a newspaper from saying “oh I can’t stop you from printing that” or something. This also extends to various companies, which may have need of restricting speech themselves.
The trick is that Blizzard, or another company, stopping you from speaking in ways they don’t approve of isn’t nearly as dangerous as the government deciding what you can and can’t say. If Blizzard says you can’t say X, it’s not a crime they’ll just stop doing business with you - your life and Liberty aren’t jeopardized.
If the government did it, it would be illegal, and your liberty would be in jeopardy. In fact I’m not convinced the kind of free speech you seem to want would be good for society.
