Hi, I don’t have a ton of money to spend but I found a refurbished computer with a i7-3770, 16gb RAM and intel integrated hd 4000 card, would these be sufficient to run wow with a nice aesthetic look? Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks so much. Also, I just got back to WoW after a 5 year hiatus.
Integrated Intel video is terrible
What’s your budget and location?
$500 tops :(, I am in the US. I am poor poor when it comes to a budget for computers, but I would definitely considering a bit higher than that in the future.
Other than the lack of a discrete GPU its fine.
Is that your full 500$ budget on that thing?
If so, then no, i wouldn’t do it.
IF it isn’t and there’s ~100 to play with, you can add an RX 570 and you’d be all set.
Might want to find out if it’s an oem business pc.
If so, might not have room, power, or even compatibility.
I remember Tech YES City having a hell of a time trying to get modern GPUs to even detect in some of these.
Ok thanks so much! The refurbished is a Lenovo business desktop, would that mean I couldn’t add a GPU?
A little under budget, but will run WoW at 1080p/60fps (average) at mostly max settings.
Would really depend on the model, the case (form factor, if there is even space for a GPU), and the Power Supply.
You’re two have been amazing, thanks so much!
Microcenter has a hp with a 2400g AMD CPU for $480. the CPU has built in GPU and there’s YouTube videos of it playing WoW pretty good.
If you can build your own the one Kagthul suggested would be better as the HP one only has a 180w psu and you would need a beefier one if you ever wanted to get a better videocard.
That PC with a 128-bit GT 1030 wouldn’t be all that bad. Stay far away from the 64-bit variants.
Hi, thanks for the replies. I don’t have any idea how to build a PC but the one Kagthul said sounds really good. So I have 2 follow up questions:
Would I be able to actually put that computer together after ordering all the parts from newegg and amazon?
Does that computer need a cooler fan?
And again, I can’t express how much I appreciate the input from you all. Thanks so much
Yes. It’s not difficult. Just watch some Youtube videos and it’ll be a walk in the park.
The CPU comes with a fan. You may need thermal compound. I have no clue if it comes pre-applied. I’m sure one of the AMD folk here would know.
Can’t speak for all AMD oem coolers, but every oem cooler I’ve ever used has come with a square of compound already applied on the cooler. Including the recent Wraith Spire. You only get one “good” try though, so don’t mess up. The good news is that it’s really hard to mess up.
Especially the new AMD coolers. They literally just screw down, and even have depth-stops so you cant overtighten them.
As others have said, go watch a few videos on how to build a PC (just dont watch the one on The Verge). Pauls Hardware, Jayz2Cents and LTT have all done videos fairly recently.
Its basically legos for adults. In almost all cases, the cables can only plug into the ports they are meant for (they have specially shaped plugs that only fit the correct spot).
I was pleasantly surprised how easy it was to secure the Wraith Spire.
Overall I think it’s a really good cooler and it really craps over everything Intel has ever included in their CPUs.
Even with a modest OC, it’s very quiet.
Yeah i overclocked my sons 2400G on the included cooler (not sure which one that is, exactly) about 400mhz and overclocked the iGPU portion as well (about 18%), and it handled it just fine.
Got a little louder, bit still tolerable enough. After i reversed the overclock on the GPU (i put in a spare GTX 660 i had lying around), it didnt even have to go that loud.
AMDs included coolers are quite respectable.
what graphics settings can you run the 2400g? just stock without a card? and can you raid with it?
I have a i3 4130 with a gtx 960 and I am getting a free pc with 2400g
2400G can do 1080p High/Med settings at around 60fps.
Raid performance has almost nothing to do with GPU and everything to do with CPU.
Itll perform just about as well as any other rig with a similar GPU. Youll gutter into the 40s but itll be playable.
If you overclock the GPU portion of the 2400G it can do significantly better especially if you have fast RAM.
