to make this classic an alternate timeline with different xpacs. If classic outperforms retail why not?

You mean make WoW2? WELL maybe in another 10 year’s.
Classic would still be classic just the xpacs that follow would be different.

So the consensus is Classic forever more? Or you all want to play the same exact xpacs and know in advance everything? Curious.
If they host each of these on their own realms, you’ll already be able to pick and play what you want. You want to sit at classic forever? Great. Go ahead and do that. I’ve been saying since the first expansion that they should never force these down people’s throats. Host them all separately, let players pick what they want to play on.
Only if pure Classic realms remain. The entire point of Classic is to try to capture a moment in time, not change it. It’s as much a museum as it is a game.
Any changes Blizzard can think up will happen to the live WoW.

The costs to maintain 8 ish different versions is astronomical and would just spread out the playerbase to the point that all servers would be super low pop.

All of the realms are already super low pop. They cross realm everything. Can you even find players from your own realm anymore when you play today? If they merged those up, the hardware for new realms is already sitting there.

I get Curse of Exhaustion and all my fears back baseline. I am happy. Just getting antsy waiting for it.

They said IF classic does well it would give the devs an opportunity to retell the story and go in a different direction with an xpac IF it works.
The op never once mentioned closing or changing classic. You can keep classic and also expand the world through different servers.

Since its already confirmed by pserver devs that no data value they use is correct. All mob and raid values for abilities/armor is wrong. The majority of class abilities don’t work correctly.
