Wrath is the first time Blizzard decided to stop WoW being an MMORPG, and just become a raid simulator from that point on.
Great setting, great story, but nothing good on the back end.

I started playing Classic in 2019 and continued on through TBC Classic, and now Wrath Classic. About 2 weeks after Hardcore Classic was released is when I made my first toon there. I am one who values my time and effort I put into my many characters, and wanted to know what to do with one of them if they died in HC. I decided on the realm transfer option that transfers your HC character over to Classic Era. If you go to https:// classic .raider .io /realms /north-america , you can see that Classic Era is definitely not “dead”. My “test” came when I wanted to see if I would die doing the Wetlands Skip, but I didn’t want to do so on Hardcore. So I made a toon on Classic Era and tried it out (and I died…a few times, lol). What surprised me was how ACTIVE Classic Era really is! People grouping for dungeons all the time, raiders LFM, guilds recruiting, new guilds forming, etc. It was quite refreshing to see.
But it’s NOTHING in comparison to how active Hardcore is!! Hardcore is so active that it can be tough to get even one quest done without competing with 25 other players on the same layer you’re on, all trying to compete against you for the same quest objectives you’re on! I’ve actually taken a little a break from Hardcore for that (frustrating) reason.
PS: Out of the many toons I’ve created on HC, only one of them has died so far and the transfer over to Classic Era Mankrik realm for that toon went very smoothly since I didn’t have any mail.
I don’t know who your sources are, but neither Classic Era nor Hardcore Classic are “dead”.
And I don’t know what server you play on in Wrath Classic. I play mainly on Pagle as Alliance, but also play Horde on Mankrik, and Alliance on Atiesh. Boosts, carries, and GDKP’s are absolutely nothing unusual on any of those realms, and it’s been like that since Classic 2019, Carries and GDKP’s peaked during TBC Classic, and that has remained in that peak state ever since. BTW, the Token wasn’t introduced until Wrath Classic, and there were just as many people paying for Carries and GDKP’s during TBC as there are now in Wrath Classic.
20/20 Hindsight always carries with it rose-colored nostalgia. BUT, should you absolutely NEED to feel that nostalgia to enjoy WoW, that need would absolutely be fulfilled by your participation in Classic Era or Hardcore Classic.

I went from EQ OoW to WoW because EQ started to suck with the direction they were going. I still play EQ but on Agnarr server only (sometimes). So, starting WoW in classic was like playing college level game (EQ) verse a pre-school level game with better graphics.
I loved WoW classic, TBC and WoTLK but didn’t like how Cata destroyed the old world and that’s where I dropped off. EQ will always be better than WoW to me but Nothing like WoW classic to have some fun every now and again.

I’ve often wondered why so many classic players have this same justification to state blizzard ruined classic. All because of wow tokens. Its almost like they are looking for any possible thing just so they can put on angry face and scream at blizzard lol. Classic isn’t ruined, people play it, and the good news is if you pay the subscription you can play any and all versions of wow available right now. So give it a go and don’t ask the forums because you’ll get nothing but trolls.

Nah… it’s a way to not have to deal with gold sellers. I’m a token buyer… and it’s because of the simple fact that time = money. I just came back with my 5 70’s in preparation for Cata classic.
Bought a token for $20 and sold it for 4700g which will go a long way towards the mats I need to level up professions… etc.
I made $20 in 30 minutes of real life time… which is a lot less time than it would take me to farm 4700g in game.
Simple math.

Yeah, you paid 2 win. That’s the problem. The only thing that should get in game rewards is in game effort.
It legitimized bad behaviour which is against the TOS any other day of the week.
30+ days? Like 7 days /played, dude. Max level in 5 hours retail can rot in hell.

There’s actually quite a lot of people playing Era right now. The Mankrik cluster is quite populated.
Make your decision on what kind of game you want to play. If you want a slower game based more around the journey, play Era. If you want a more balanced WoW with a lot of QoL features, play WotLK or Retail.
The latter two are pretty close together at this point to be honest, it’s just a question of what kind of content you want to play and how you want class mechanics to be. I would say that Era is a very different kind of game.
It’s nice to have choices 
I do Classic HC + WoTLK+ Retail. Mainly only HC WoW now though. Cuz Cata is coming. Time for Crap-taclysm. WoW 4.

and many former token buyers if like me, never stepped foot in raid. GDKP or otherwise. Our gold went to NPC vendor sales.
It got me a char or 2 artisan flying , dual spec and a massive training catch up since i level only 1 spec. I saw the 10K tokens on release day lol.
In the case of my hunter that was BM. Great leveling spec. But my end game spec is MM. Even said wth…lets get SV done to give that a go.
SV was alot of start up cost as the BM leveling build used no SV skill tree.
