Can’t decide between WotLK (continuing into Cata I assume) or normal WoW classic to play. Both sound fun but seems like not many people play classic and wotlk is tainted with WoW token and other crap…Any ideas?
Tainted? By the token? That’s one of the good few things they put in, although too little too late, in typical Blizzard fashion. Play whichever you prefer though.
It didn’t cause players to do any of the stuff you or others blame on it. Players were already doing all that stuff. All that has changed is that players are able to support Blizzard while doing it instead of sending the money to China’s bot farms.
Well, it just depends on what you like both are currently having a revitalization. Wrath with icc and dungeon finder coming out next week, and classic has had hardcore as well as a strong return to some of there regular servers.
I don’t mean to be controversial by disagreeing but how is the WoW token benefiting Wrath? It’s caused people to sell carries in raids, arenas, etc and for Blizzard to do nothing because they’re making money off of it. I know they still did this even without tokens but was less. I know the game will never be like the way it was back in the day, but this buying gear or achievements just ruins the nostalgia for me yk?
It’s like not wanting to buy a brand new house because 1 light bulb isn’t working.
What do you want do?
Do you want to play end game content of Wrath, with lower emphasize on leveling.
Or do you want to focus on leveling more and have a pretty much the easiest version of engame in Era?
I’d rather lose my left nut than play Vanilla ever again.
Token, in essence, will, quite literally, have zero impact on your gameplay.
Not a huge fan of hardcore, really just prefer the OG game but all the servers are at medium so seems to be dead, no? Again, I haven’t really looked into all the info, just trying to figure things out…
I’ve seen a fair amount of people on, though I mainly check the server whitemane. You could always make a character, just to see who’s on and how things are going.
The main reason I’m going wrath is for the dungeon finder, I can usually find dungeons for the first couple on era but after say stockades it becomes a lot more difficult to find groups. But that doesn’t mean it’s impossible and since era is more about the journey if that is your main interest it could definitely be a better fit.
Well, I never played vanilla, I started in wrath which is why I am currently playing wrath again; however I see a lot of people say vanilla is worth playing I just don’t understand why.
era has 1/30th of the raiders but just as many gold trading offers available, there are pots equally as big as the wotlk pots, if ur looking to get away from tainted gameplay, hardcore is the closest you can get
You do realise they sold all that before the WoW token was introduced right?
Except the gold came from certain unmentionable sites instead.
It also changed absolutely nothing because it’s only bought by people too principled to rmt their gold and only sells to people who would rather use their gdkp stash or well, rmt’d gold to pay for their game time.
Right now the token is what, 5k? Good luck buying anything of value with that.
I’m mainly playing in the hopes they release Cata. I know a lot of people don’t like cata, but it was the first expansion I played fully as I started late in wrath back in the day. I wanted to play hunter again, like I did back then, but if Blizzard doesn’t release Cata then leveling in Wrath is kinda a waste due to me being so late. I still want to raid ICC so I may still do it, just scary to invest a lot of time for them to drop it entirely.
Probably because for now hc gold is like $30 per 100g. Gdkp’s and rmt are still there, just that farming gold is clearly much more work intense for the sellers.
I doubt we’ll find out what they plan to do until blizzcon but if it makes you feel better they did send out a survey several months ago asking people if they would be interested in cata. I suppose it would just depend on what people answered when that went out.
Well, some people say it will either be Classic+ or Cata. I’m fine with either, but I really don’t wanna wait 6 months to play the game once they announce smthn. I could play retail, but not a huge fan of it currently…
- Create an illusion of popularity to get attract more players.
- And no, it’s not even remotely close to popularity.
- Era/HC focus on leveling journey and some miss it. But not a lot. Not nearly as many as some claim it.
Half my guild is playing HC just until ICC comes out next week to kill time. HC and Era is about to take a massive population hit.
I just looked the other day. In last 2 weeks, Wrath had recorded over 2.7 MILLION parses logged for current raid tier. Era Molten Core had like 100k or less.
There aren’t really any huge “bad” changes to wrath. 9/10 of changes were, in fact, for the better of the game.
Here are some changes off the top of my head:
- Free gender swap in Babershop
- Wintergrasp was turned into an instanced battleground, otherwise 98% of servers would never have one.
- Boosting change is in place for both, Wrath and Era.
- PvP #1 - Same faction battleground simply to allow Horde to get faster queues.
- PvP #2 - Cross-realm arena teams to somewhat revive arena PvP on smaller servers.
- Smart Healing for Rdru, Holy Priest and Rsham was adjusted. So pets eat less of healing.
- Unholy DK Gargoyle was adjusted for snapshotting. They are still S-tier spec. Back in P1 they were x4 damage of a Ret paladin and like x2-3 dps of everyone else.
- Ret paladin got 7% damage buff
- Feral received roughly 5-7% buff to get rid of Bearweaving (aka get rid of 12+ button rotation)
- Heroic+/++ were added to keep dungeons relevant for longer than a week of launch.
- Heroic+/++ tank+healer lootboxes were added to create an incentive for tanks and healers. (Taken from Cataclysm)
- A few badges from leveling in Storm Peaks and Icecrown were added to create an incentive to level vs dungeon farming.
That’s pretty much it really. There are no other gameplay changes.
This all comes down to what you enjoy; you can never escape rmt so don’t try
Vanilla: vast world, slow pace, leveling based, lots of world activity, 5 mans serve a purpose, terrible terrible raiding structure
wotlk: fast pace, leveling doesn’t matter, very little world activity, chore 5 mans but vastly superior raiding
You’re right, I’ll probably stick to Wrath just because of higher population and more content and if they release Cata then everything works out.
With dungeon finder coming out next week those 5 mans should get a lot easier
That’s 100% true.
There is RMT cancer in Wrath that’s for sure. But running with guild solves it ofc. More or less. But market has always been a disaster in Classic from day 1.
There is RMT in Era.
There is RMT on Retail.
There is also RMT on Hardcore.
So if anyone is like “booo Wrath sucks”. Well, no. It doesn’t suck. They are prob salty about something.
Only complete clowns would quit the game over some silly changes and like a Ret/Feral 7-10% buff.
The content is still the same. They are just cry babies.
And remember, the main demographic of WoW Classic is dudes between 30 and 45 years of age. Let that sink in for a moment.
And if they do announce something else everyone will be surprised and so there will be leveling groups no matter what they do.
Likely classic cata will be a thing because it is the easier thing to do, but that’s just my pessimism about blizzards incentives lol
