Correct me if I’m wrong but ele can lava burst → chain lightning → shock to have all 3 spells hit at roughly the same time for some big on-demand PvP burst. Any thoughts on other class/spec burst combos that have similar results for use in, say, casual solo bgs where you’re trying to 40-0 someone? Seems like maybe fire mage or boomkin might have something like this since they also have travel time and instant type spells. Also if I’m wrong about the ele lineup above please educate me. Thanks!
Deep freeze into shatter combo and immolate into chaos bolt+burn is another good one
chaos bolt > conflag i think but yes
Hunter/Ele/Boom do best at solo BG queueing and tearing face.
Boom can be shut down by simple CC
Ele at least needs to get casts off
Hunter has no reqs, it’ll just eat through people in BGs
I love getting some PvE gear on a 3.3.5 MM Hunter and deleting people in BGs with a Chimera > Aimed Shot > Kill Shot combo.
I love radio.
I love lamp
I love Harland.
Destro gets a bit weird with wrath for spell combos.
In vanilla and tbc, the basic combo involves a 2.5 with travel time, into a 1.5 hard cast, into an instant. For example shadow bolt into searing pain into shadow burn, or shadow bolt into immolate into conflag.
The exceptions to that being soul fire (longer cast and costs a shard) and instant procs (instant sbolt or incinerate from nightfall or backlash) where you bolt/incinerate into instant bolt/incinerate into instant cast for the same effect.
In wrath however, it gets trickier for 3 reasons
- Chaos bolt is both fire and shadow, so you REALLY can’t afford to get kicked casting it.
2, 3, and 4. Backdraft, pyroclasm, and aftermath
All three of these talents heavily incentivize using conflag more rotationally. Aftermath makes conflag daze for 5 seconds, pyroclasm (though not often taken in pvp) increases damage after a conflag crit, and Backdraft (the big one), gives 30%cast time and gcd reduction on your next 3 destro spells after conflag.
You kind of want to conflag to be able to set up chaos bolt on quicker casts, and you don’t really want to waste back draft procs on searing pain (not to mention the haste screws up the synchronization between sbolt/incinerate/chaos bolts’ flight time and the searing pain cast… So the amount of times you’re doing a vanilla/tbc styled 2.5 into a 1.5 into an instant combo are incredibly limited in wrath outside of instant cast procs or making your self dramatically more open to lockouts by hard casting before you have Backdraft up.
So ironically, lock probably has LESS burst in wrath than they’ve had up wotlk in most circumstances.
To be clear, that doesn’t mean they aren’t dangerous, you can and will still get absolutely deleted by one casting on you, just that the wrath toolkit changes how their combos work together, and arguably lowers the skill ceiling quite a bit, while raising the skill floor… Instead of 3 abilities all hitting in the exact same millisecond they’ll start being spaced over a global but be flying at you machine gun style
Something like imo (1.5), conflag(I), hasted incinerate (1.75), hasted incinerate (1.75), hasted chaos bolt(1.75), searing pain(1.5), sburn(I) with only the chaos/searing pain/ sburn actually landing at the same instant.
Shield slam
Deep freeze/shatter into mindblast/shadow word death with dots rolling.
I feel sensations ripple through my body when i read this.
What about boomie vs ele, does boomkin have anything as threatening if left to their own devices?
Seduce → soulfire → shadowfury → immolate —> coil —> chaosbolt + conflag —> Soul Burn
Sheep —> pyro —> dragons breath —> fireball —> CS blanket —> scorch + impact/hot streak pyro —> blastwave knockback to deny cast heals post CS.
Common 2 i use. Also with the ele combo, if you go off the back of a lightning bolt overload, the overload will also stack with LvB, CL and shock for more burst.
Oh so you mean like the lightning bolt overload has its own additional travel time?
Yes, the overload doesnt go off with the initial cast, and because lightning bolt has one of the slowest spell animations the delay on the overload causes it to sync nicely with the rest of the combo.
Very cool! And also hilarious that lightning bolt has such a slow animation time
