so im just waiting on payday to buy new fans for my new setup gonna be another week then about 1 more week ontop of that to get them in.
thought about using my old fans which are idk like 6-10 years old really not sure how old they are im guessing about 6ish years. they still worked. would just be using them for about 2 weeks then replacing them. just for an intake/exhaust.
just wondering though if it’s worth it or more of a headache/problematic with those time frames especially with wiring since i suck at wire management.
Eh for me cable management and all that is fun but redoing it over again so soon probably would just frustrate me. I’d wait
Yea I suck at it so I just tuck and play lmfao. Ty for the response. Might go looking tonight and purchase so I’m not waiting so long for shipping.
What case did you end up with? a lot of cases today are made to help with cable management.
Put the fans in and just zip tie them enough so that you’re not getting a restricted airflow, since it’s just a temporary measure.
The only fan I’ve ever had go out on me was for a southbridge on a machine I had 14 years ago, and then it was likely b/c it was a cheap build I bought from a store in the mall that built from equally cheap parts. You’ll be fine.
Edit: for the record, the main fans in my current setup are approx 6 years old and still running strong. The secondary fan on my case (a big honkin 200 mm) is approx 10 years old and still going strong as well. As long as you didn’t cheap out on the original fans nothing should go wrong. Even if they are cheap ones, there’s not a lot that can go wrong with a fan by nature, so they’re fairly robust anyways.
I think he got the one that literally can contain 2 pcs
So a $500 case (Corsair Obsidian 1000D) and this guy is asking questions about fans. SMH…
It’s a little odd yeah but he’s a good guy lol
learning process bro. i got my personal reasons why i bought the case too but yea it is over kill will eventually use it to learn custom water loop though. can always make more money that aint the issue finding people to teach you how to do something is harder. none of that “just google it” bs. or learning from mistakes which has already landed me deep before
It also opens you up for some pretty interesting possibilities. My understanding is the logic is to have one main PC and a streaming system within it. You could all sorts of stuff with this, which could be pretty cool.
I actually thought this might be kind of neat for a his/hers system with just one box in the same room.
i will eventually learn water cooling in it i mean i just build when i need to for a pc it’s not like a huge hobby i have or something i do often. just like to learn to do things instead of buying cause i mean anyone can spend money to buy something but not many can say oh i did this myself.
same with cars. lots of people pay to get it fixed or modified but not many can say they rebuilt the motor themselves or what not.
Bro I just ordered a 5800X on impulse and IDK wtf I’m gonna do with it.
It’s not even really an upgrade and it will just cost me money for nothing.
FML lol

i bought my fans but im already broke af XD didn’t want to wait another 2 weeks for it to ship. m2 coming in today figure i start building already on wednesday/thursday and then friday pick up windows so i can start playing. just pray nothing is DoA or im screwed lol
I get the need to learn but what did you get for PSU? and GPU ? it’s a really terrible time to build especially if you don’t have a lot of bread.
3080 and 850w I have money but sadly it was for a car I was saving up. Car ain’t going anywhere though
Which 3080 and brand 850w PSU? hopefully not a cheapo 850.
corsair 80 plus gold. i mean i dont think i need a damn titanium never had an issue with the golds so far though. the nvidia FE 3080.
I think you mentioned it was an RMX before? Which would be a good unit.
The 3080 is known for some really high transients, and in some power supplies that has been known to trip overcurrent protection causing system shut downs.
I haven’t had that happen to mine, but it apparently is on the list of those that are susceptible.
Bottom line is you will want a high quality unit, not just power rating and efficiency rating.

Do you happen to know of a link to this list? I want to check if Mine is on it. I use a Cooler Master V1200. I think it’s a solid unit and has not ever failed me.
I don’t have a 3080 yet but I do plan on the 3090 sooner I can find one that doesn’t cost me my first born.
Here’s a list of PSUs. Some say it’s arbitrary, and in some ways it is, but it’s also a good aggregate for known documented problems. They usually will include sources for any noted issues. Otherwise the actual tier list aspect is based on some criteria the authors devised.
Mine is the Seasonic Focus Plus Gold 850w, which Seasonic themselves have acknowledged can have issues with high transient load.

I wouldn’t consider this the end-all-be-all, but it does have some useful information.
