I’ve played this game on/off for 14 years, I grew up with it throughout my teens, holding a special place in my heart and I’m drawn back to it sometimes. I can only stand to play it solo for so long, though. I’ve never really been able to make real friends who I can do in-game stuff with regularly, not for lack of trying.
So I want to know if people are looking forward to the World Soul Saga and the upcoming expansions? Has Dragonflight been good? I want to hope for the best with rearrangement of who is in charge of Blizzard and anybody else new to the creative direction, because new blood can have lots of good ideas. In the same vein, I gather I shouldn’t expect too much. Are you hopeful, or doubtful? Would it be worth dropping $50 on the new expac (getting dragonflight with it, since I don’t have it) and more $ for a sub?
I do not want to drop even a dime more on a game that I won’t be playing with anyone, so I’d like to get to know some new people before investing more of myself. I like RP and I like PvP, I like playing both factions and lots of characters. Joining a big (“heavy”) RP guild isn’t something I’m interested in, I’d prefer a smaller group where we’re all collaborating on stories to tell. I have a little bit of rated pvp experience including as target caller and I like rbgs more than arena.
I try my best to be courteous, friendly and understanding. I’d love for someone(s) to be my reason to rejoin Azeroth, but I’d like to chat for a while to see if we get along. I hope all readers have a wonderful day!
Out of curiosity have you been on WrA before or are you trying out the server for the first time? What is your experience with roleplay?
Probably the best way to find what you are looking for is rping at hubs and events. Make some friends until you have a good group of them. Then you can see what friends might be interested in making a small group story.
As for Dragonflight, I enjoyed it. Not everything was great. Some of the Zaralek Cavern content I found kinda awful but I stayed around. The raids weren’t too bad either. I enjoyed raiding. I have been getting into PvP more and really like some of the sets. The current shaman pvp is awesome! The catchup mechanics are kinda copy paste to me. They are very similar. I did enjoy the Emerald Dream though.
The War Within seems interesting so we will see how that goes. Hopefully we will get some interesting content and some sets. Personally I am more interested in world revamps and such. I like the whole idea of going into massive caverns and stuff but the expac feels a bit removed. Overall, I am slightly hopeful.
I will echo a lot of Raton’s feelings here about Dragonflight. I’d give it a solid “B” as an expansion; overall, if you’re looking for something pleasant to play, it’s up there for sure. Imperfect, but not egregiously so. My thoughts are, if the game holds a special place in your heart (as it does in mine), it’s a safe bet you’ll find something to enjoy in DF and (presumably) WW. It feels like we’re picking up a storyline that should’ve continued at Legion’s end and, because I liked Legion (and I like Metzen’s storytelling), I’m willing to take this new journey with them and find my own slice of happiness.
…And my own slice of happiness, of course, is all things undead and Forsaken If you do decide to come back and make Wyrrmest Accord your home for RP and content, consider checking out the Forsaken community! There are several smaller (but active) guilds about who might be able to offer just the kind of community you’re looking for.
I’ve been on WrA since Draenor, but I’ve been absent from the game for much longer than I’ve been active. I have a lot of exp roleplaying in various formats, but mmo is least among them. I’d never been able to work up the nerve of walkups in hubs, but maybe I need to get over whatever’s holding me back.
I totally understand what you mean. It’s not easy walking up to other players but it can be rewarding.
I’ve been away since before Mechagon dropped in BfA. I recently decided to come back. Rolled a few different classes explored a couple different realms.
Everybody I’ve run into here on WrA has been great. They’re actually excited to see new faces! It’s a little bit different here on Alliance side compared to Horde but more alive than my original realm. Just wave, nod, say hello to everyone you pass. Especially if they have a TRP active.
The other evening I wandered over to Cathedral District and saw a bunch of people hanging out then found out later that I had just missed a market. I’ll catch the next event but I did spend some quality Paladin time kneeling before the altar in the cathedral.
It’s definitely been worth it for me coming back into WoW. I hope you find it worthwhile also.
The market was great! I was at the it earlier and had to scoot to join another event scheduled that night. It was both an awkward and welcome feeling to need to be in two places at once.
Also, WrA Allianceside’s walk-up scene is smaller than Hordeside but very welcoming. Happy to have you.
The new crew delivered a good expansion. In terms of gameplay – refreshing raid encounters, things to do, world to explore, things to collect, gear to grind – Retail has never been better. The new set of WoW devs very much respect players time and also finally shifted WoW’s MMO design into the 2020s. It’s not entirely perfect but it’s so much better than what is was, especially coming back from the gameplay pit that was Shadowlands.
Story-wise, you’ll get more of a lukewarm reception. I view DF’s story as a soft reset of sorts. Not in the sense of a retcon, but in the sense of developing the next generation of characters who (I hope) will have a role in TWW. There’s a part of me worried of Metzen’s return and tendency to favor certain characters, but hopefully those worries won’t be realized.
Edit: One more bit, post was made early thanks to a kitty on the keyboard.
I understand this completely. You can definitely network and find your new batch of friend folk here on the forums. In addition, check out the Wyrmrest Community Project Discord, which was made to help like-minded RP folks of both factions find one another. More info here:
