As a DK that climatic offended me. But I know in the place where my heart use to be that she’d NEVER be able to beat Arthas, the one true Lich King.
8.3 was worse than the Shadowlands cinematic. The 8.3 cinematic just ripped off Starcraft 2 and The Return of The King. I understand paying homage or being inspired, but it was just directly ripped off.
They’re both terrible for different reasons. Shadowlands makes me cringe because it looks so good but what it means is so bad
I think this one beats both
8.3 is objectively worse in every way, but Bolvar losing to Sylvanas straight up almost had me and a whole discord full of eight friends not even bother to pre-order.
Between that and covenants, we had like three hours of venting about Blizzard’s horrific decision making to kill the time.
Shadowlands by an astronomical gulf.
8.3… so what? It was more tired, played out Old God content. It didn’t matter. It was never going to matter. N’zoth getting a farewell send off by a kazoo orchestra like that is well within the bounds of what he deserved.
The Shadowlands? … what a complete and total waste of a high budget cinematic. “omg you guys, isn’t Sylvanas just so super cool!?!” was the last thing the world needed any more of. That was uncalled for. That was tasteless. That damaged the potential of the next expansion.
No, that’s not what needed to happen at all. Sylvanas is a known quantity. Focusing on her at all was a mistake. You know what isn’t a known quantity? What needs focus and revelation and basically any reason for any of us to give any slight damn? The Jailor.
This is supposed to be THE big bad guy to replace all the ones Blizzard unceremoniously threw away these last to expansions. He’s supposed to be BBEG #1. What do we know about him? Bumkiss. Nothing. Nada. He has no cred to his name. All we have to go on is what the tell us, and that is absolutely the wrong way to go about it.
This is a damn video game. Don’t tell us. Show us!
Bolvar should have beaten Sylvanas to a pulp. He should have wrecked her so thoroughly as to embarrass her. Absolute abject domination without any repose. Then, just as he’s about to strike the final blow, have her put an arrow into the nexus of the Crown of Domination.
This lets the power of the Jailor mainfest, and he’s the one who destroys Bolvar. And go big with it. Go HUGE!!! Don’t just break the Crown of Domination - destroy the whole freaking Frozen Thone! Due to Icecrown what Sargeras did to Silithus! Leave us with absolutely no doubt that this “Jailor” character means business so serious we ain’t getting to see him without full sports coats and ties. Leave us gaping in awe and horror at what it is we’re going to have to fight.
Don’t have to reveal anything personal or motivational, but show that the Jailor is something so insanely powerful that, even though we’ve never heard of him before, we damn well better respect him.
That’s what that cinematic should have been. None of this “yay, gothy wiafu beat bald fire man!” Ugh.
I’m gonna be honest your almost was my reality. Not pre-ordering probably not buying either unless significant positive announcements are made about
The scourge are not dead. Without bolvar wearing the helm they are just now running rapsnt eating whatever they can get a hold of like a normal zombie.
Sylvies actions create all sorts of problems.
Blizzard cinematics are aways stunning. But that doesn’t mean they make sense. I have no hype for sl.
The story would be much better to follow if so much of it wasn’t told outside of the game. The moments of internal dialogue with Sylvanas have been really important for framing her actions and overall plot development, but we get very little of it ingame.
