Worse cinematic, 8.3 or Shadowlands?

Throughout the history of WoW, whether the game was good or bad, the cinematics were always a high point. WoD was probably the worst expansion, and had the best cinematic in my opinion.

However lately this trend has been broken with the release of Shadowlands Cinematic at Blizzcon. That same day it became the most unliked cinematic ever on their Youtube channel. They didn’t get ratioed but you could argue the big budget intro cinematics for expansions draw a wider audience outside of the WoW playerbase who might not understand the lore as well.

However now with the release of 8.3 the cinematic for this patch it is by far the most downvoted video of a cinematic, in-game or otherwise, they have ever posted. So much so it has been delisted off of Youtube.

So in your opinions, which is the worse of the two? I personally find them both equally bad but for different reasons.

8.3 was just really disappointing

SL made me mad because im more than tired of Mary Sue Sylvanas

So yeah Shadowlands Cinematic was worse

Like comparing crappy apples to crappy apples.

I agree. Shadowlands only didn’t get more dislikes because a lot of random people who don’t even know about WoW watch the big budget cinematics on their youtube. Shadowlands is infuriating, whereas 8.3 is just like, “they really just didn’t try with this one eh?”

Well at least the Shadowlands Cinematic lasted the proper duration for a cinematic and looked beautiful even if the story is wack. So 8.3 / BFA Ending is worse by a long shot.

That’s the point, which of the two apples is the most disgusting of the two disgusting apples?

Blizz vids have been dislike bombed ever since the diablo immortal thing happened so I don’t bother caring about dislikes here.

I liked the shadowlands cinematic.

I guess if I ultimately had to choose it would be the 8.3 ending.

At least the Shadowlands cinematic had EFFORT put into it, even if the content of it was total idiocy. 8.3 is just Blizzard conpletely giving up on the remains of this failed, garbage expansion.

Here’s the only upside to Shadowlands. We might be able to kill Her.

I dunno I thought seeing Bolvar look all cool with his big hammer was cool. Sure he lost but he still looked cool.

You would be correct, but as a DK I’m still salty about that. Dude was whispering me all Legion about how if I didn’t listen to him he’d unleash the Scourge and kill the rest of you. Then basically goes down like a B…

To be fair we’re not uber buffed by the jailer and allllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll the souls going to the maw.

You bring up a fair point.

That and it was just a hoot to see the trailer reactions from blizzcon with people marking out just seeing the tippy tip top of Icecrown.

You know you made an iconic location if THAT is the response from just 1 milisecond of it getting into shot

Shadowlands.
Nzoth is crap but I can get the point.
Shadowlands… no point.

Ah both are crap though. I just don’t like they waste Old Gods like this.
Argus at least had the reason to be part of Legion expansion.

Sylvanas’ power gain was handled badly, in terms of appearance and design.

Normal Sylvanas could have never put a dent into Bolvar maybe even Saurfang.

Jailer Empowered Sylvanas has clearly wiped the floor with both of them. We were supposed to understand that something has tipped Sylvanas’ power scale EXTREMELY.

There needed to be a sign of something extremely third party. Sylvanas’ new banshee form probably came from the Jailer but you wouldn’t have guessed that since she’s the Banshee Queen.

Example: She should have lost the first round against Bolvar in her Banshee form then gained a boon from the Jailor or appearance change and gone to town with Bolvar.

Example 2: Sylvanas should have killed Saurfang with an element that isn’t natural to her, doing Shadow magic is par for the course.

Instead nah SYLVANAS STRONK.

Shadowlands.

8.3 is disappointing because of how short and anti-climatic it feels and really does not do N’zoth any justice. It does not feel like a good, satisfying, win.

The Shadowlands intro cinematic is just poorly written and extremely over the top in a bad way with no sense of power scaling and the thickest (least three or four c’s) plot armor I have ever seen in a very undeserving way.

EDIT: And, you know what upsets me the most? It could have been good. It could have been REALLY good!

She could have brought her loyal Dark Rangers and Nathanos so it wasn’t just her VS the Lich King.

She could have taken some damage herself or at least her armor could have been battered a bit to look like it wasn’t an effortless fight.

She could have, instead of pulling this chain’s move out of nowhere have instead pulled out the Lantern that Greymane broke, showing that it had been repaired through the guidance of the Jailor or something instead of JUST suddenly having these unbreakable chains from nowhere.

They could have left out the Dragon Ball Z levels of strength where Bolvar and Sylvanas are flinging massive, multi-hundreds of tons chunks of Saronite at eachother either with weird psychic powers somehow pure physical strength.

They could have had Sylvanas use some kind of artifact or ritual to break the Helm of Domination instead of tearing plate armor, MAGICAL plate armor, apart with her bare hands as a ranger who has gone on record to express how vastly different her physical strength was compared to a Tauren like Baine in Warcrimes.

That… THAT is what upsets me about all of this, it could have been an AMAZING cinematic but instead it comes off as poorly written fan service with no consistency in terms of character power in a fight that betrays Sylvanas as a character and turns her from being an agile archer and tactician into a Shonen Manga villain.

I know there are a lot of Sylvanas “loyalist” fans out there who melt down any time anyone criticizes here but I complain BECAUSE I loved the character. I loved what Sylvanas was, she was smart, she was cunning, she knew how to use her troops and surroundings to her advantage, she was evil to the core in the best of ways and she had a very good motivation both pre-ICC and post-ICC and it has seemingly been flushed down the drain.

Yeah, I was upset when Garrosh got this treatment but at least it felt more believable given his past and his anger issues as well as the way Thrall dropped everything on him. Sylvanas though and how that cinematic panned out is just utterly insulting.

Sylvanas has been ruined for me and I only hope that she dies in Shadowlands. I do not think I could find enjoyment in WoW moving forward if she is “redeemed” at this point.

She has thrown her character motivation, doing everything she can to survive and stay in the shadows, to the wind and has made nothing but very dumb and out of character decisions since the BFA Pre-Patch.

I honestly gave it a chance thinking it was going somewhere because if you did the pre-patch event on both characters it felt like someone was manipulating things in the background because there were inconsistencies. Things like the Civilians being killed in Ashenvale when the Alliance arrive even though on the Horde side you are specifically told only to target enemy troops and specific targets.

Paired with all the Old God hints I was expecting a “N’zoth was behind all this, pulling the strings to stoke the flames of war” type deal.

No, instead Sylvanas has just lost her senses completely and the Shadowlands cinematic encompasses EVERYTHING wrong with how the character has been handled.

Man… its so upsetting… Its really very upsetting that such an iconic and veteran character has been handled like this.

8.3. For me, old gods are more important than Ms plot armor at this point.

Oh you’re a Vulpera now.

Shadowlands cinematic didn’t show anything, well showing the Shadowlands. Even WotLK showed Northren in some artistic degree. Probably should of been the last cinematic for BFA before SL’s cinematic.
