World of Warcraft on Console

Said it before, Blizzard and Microsoft are massive companies, and if they really want to make it work they will, it will be all on whether they want to or not.

I can’t speak to ESO, not having played it, but I’ve played both versions of Star Trek Online. They did a pretty decent job of setting it up so you can play with controllers, mainly using “wheels” on screen to allow you to access multiple buttons. And it worked well for that game. That being said, STO and WoW are very different games and what worked well for one might not for the other.

Like what? Menus? Because ff14 has a lot lot lot lot lot lot lot more.

I would be interested how they will handle keybinds. I will keep my keyboard, thank you.

They already have controller support added, so I wouldn’t doubt this will be ported to xbox at some point. I believe that was put into the Shadowlands Alpha if memory serves.

You need to activate it via a console command by typing in ‘/console GamePadEnable 1’

There are youtube videos on how to properly set it up.

Would not be a big deal for wow to be brought to Xbox. Xbox supports mouse and keyboard and there is also controller support for wow already. The more people they can get to play wow the better. Only downside is addons. But Microsoft could do a similar thing as Bethesda did for Skyrim with mods on the Xbox for addon support.

Was literally just talking to someone on Reddit about this and their guildy is top dps in raids using a controller

Other person said they can do 20 plus keys on a controller

I’m interested in trying it for my steamdeck

you can put a keyboard and mouse on the USB, same as many people in Warzone

Microsoft would have to supply coders to adapt it. Blizz certainly doesn’t have any to spare atm.

Simple .
Take the basic buttons there are 14 . Now to increase the number of button combinations .

Both thumbsticks pressed down together = 1 key bind
Both top front buttons pressed together = 1
Both bottom front together =1
1 top 1 bottom on front combined =2
both left front buttons together and both right together =2

Any combination of the front buttons with the 4 lettered button is 4 binds per totaling 16 key bind options

either thumbstick pressed down with each letter button is 4 each totaling 8 key binds

Directional pad + along with letter buttons is 4 more per direction totaling 16 and add in the front 4 buttons to the directional pad there is another 16.

That comes out to 76 different combinations for keybinds using a controller.

People need to think beyond the buttons they can see and look at how the controllers are designed to use multi button combinations.

You could be right, I have no experience of console gaming for a MMO style game. However I cant imagine that doing things like high intensity raiding on a console without some serious alterations would work. When tiny amounts of time between actions can be the difference between success and failure, spinning wheels to access buttons doesnt sound terribly smooth to me.
