World of Warcraft and the LGBTQ Community Member's Experience

Sure, but that’s not how it comes off. You asking a percentage and numbers is creepy no matter how you spin it. Your lack of understanding here, that is the problem.

Happy WoWing!

I was only asking for the demographic facts. Because people claim that a group is marginally small in comparison to the rest of a population. Then I would think they would have some facts to demonstrate their claims.

Identifying yourself so completely by who you sleep with and approaching the world with it at every turn is about as small minded and petty as it gets. Like a frat boy ranting about the chicks he hooks up with but with a social justice shield. Get over it. A gaming community is a whole group, everyone. Or do you just need attention?

To the people posting on this thread to the effect of “sexual orientation and gender identity don’t matter, don’t post about it, don’t talk about it”:

You don’t have to click on the thread and post about it. Don’t want to talk about it? That’s fine, don’t.

And yet here you are, posting in this thread because you don’t want LGBT folks to be able to speak openly and be publicly visible. You want to complain about how we don’t fit into the status quo that you’ve become so comfortable in and want to maintain.

Maybe you aren’t conscious of this bias, this topic just makes you feel uncomfortable and things just spew out. We all have our flaws, it isn’t a fatal character flaw that makes you evil. The status quo has been there long before you. That said, it does not wholly excuse uncivil behavior.

I don’t want to be a disruptive muck raking pain in the butt. I don’t want to crucify anyone. Just give us some space eh?

BLM gets hugely popular every time there’s a Republican in the White House, then everyone forgets about it after they’re voted out.

Abortion and women’s rights are extremely hot topics around the midterms.

Stopping Asian Hate was really useful for COVID policy compliance.

Now, we’re back to LGBTQ rights.

I see. Ok, then the answer to this entire forum problem would be for forum topic creators to only create topics dealing directly with the wow game it-self. Would you suggest to blizz that they just enforce that by closing down and banning anyone who breaks that rule?

I.E. No discussion about the real world whatsoever across the board? They kinda do that already but its random. From my observation.

It’s starting to rear its head again for midterms. You can already tell when the paradigm shifts in the media. As soon as they start covering shootings/police brutality, it’s game time. We’ll get a splash of it now, and it’ll be back up in full speed by the time the real race comes. Especially with how little faith people have in Biden. They’ll need the push in support

As you can see from our posts above us. Rules are no discussions outside of the game itself which includes no politics. So Bliz has to come down hard on their rules. It must enforce the rules for every topic outside the gaming parameters or its a waste of time.

They have algorithms that attempt to catch every topic outside the allowed. But it fails. It entire system is kind of arbitrary. Even with the flagging which can be and is abused. And the monitor Devs. It results in a unfair policing system.

This is what I was talking about. I get it. You want a cause to fight for. That’s fine. You are posting on the forums for a video game, though. So, you probably shouldn’t expect much of anything useful to come out of this little discussion.

I just pointed out the trend. This is just what people do.

It’s so easy to take a stand on “real world issues” on the internet, isn’t it? You don’t even have to work for it. You just… type.

No I don’t fight for causes. I’m just a curious individual that likes to ask people about there opinions. That’s all it is. And just so you know I’m not part of any community other than American.

Ok I got that when you said You. You actually were addressing the people who are Social Warriors. And not me.

Just a note:
I was never into causes. I just did a stint in the military to serve my country. Came home and try to live in peace.

If you serve in a military, chances are you don’t actually try to live in peace.

Although answering a question with another question is sometime considered to be impolite or even disingenuous: Do you personally have any good reasons or even proof to believe that the WoW playerbase is structurally special enough to have a population distribution that’s significantly different (i.e. a difference greater than both standard deviation and margin of error) from the more general populaces of let’s say the U.S., the “Western World” or even the entire Earth?

If so, could you elaborate?

The real answer is that these morons just don’t know. They like to spout claims they can’t supply actual proof for. Then if asked for facts they answer with double talk. And ask for you to elaborate on a question that any first grader would of understood.

They have the I.Q. of a potato.

i love the stories and character development. i hope for more lgbt representation and inclusion in future updates. June is pride month and we should celebrate it!

It’s sad you can’t type the full word, the activists are taking things too far and actually hurting decent and nice people like yourself.

I can see how people are now becoming less accepting, I’ve never really had an “opinion” for or against groups of individuals, I always value their actions and how they treat people not who they sleep with but my main account, after 10+ years of posting was permabanned by the activists for literally just asking the devs to focus more on gameplay. It has certainly not made me fond of their “ideals” or the people they are trying to “protect”.

That’s terrible… I get that WoW’s community isn’t the most pleasant and could use some improvement, but I wouldn’t want people banned in my name, even if they’re being rude.

WoW is not a dating website

No matter what you like, it does not need to be brought up in game. Period.

You can be who you are, but personal information and needless information that doesn’t apply to game play, kept out.

NO ONE should get special treatment. NO ONE. We are playing a video game. Other players do not need or care or need to know if you are a man, woman, transgender or what your sexual orientation is.

We are all human beings here. Race, gender or sexual orientation does not matter and shouldn’t be discussed. Nor does it need to be. We are all the same. No one is more special than the next guy/girl. This should be Blizzards stance and it should be left at the door upon entering like your shoes.

This what true equality is.

It doesn’t matter until you get into voice chat. Then it matters a lot if you are AFAB.

Well, when society at large actually functions that way then maybe it doesn’t need to be discussed. In reality you can point to hard data that shows people of different races, genders and sexual orientations get different treatment and receive different outcomes. While those different outcomes exist, guess what, there’s still more to discuss.
