Is it wod next or they halting this classic stuff and moving chara to retail?
My money is on wodc ONLY because LegionC will be awesome … and they should bring back LFR.

There are so many speculators here, you’ll fall down the rabbit hole just asking this question.
Take a look who’s leading Classic at Blizzard. Take a look at her resume, and what she did working for her previous employer. Should answer the question.
In short, a lot of people have a lot of opinions, but to me it’s pretty clear Classic Progression and Anniversary both keep going, probably at least to Legion but who knows maybe longer, and something new (WoW 2/C+) is coming.
As for LFR, that ship has sailed. I was very vocal about wanting to preserve it. And while MoP without LFR has really diminished my ability to participate in raid content, the Celestial system has greatly benefited me by helping gear alts and get them through the Cloak quest chain quickly. Ultimately, I’m ambivalent about it. I miss being able to queue for a raid when I had time, instead of fit my time into someone else’s schedule, but the Celestial system lets me play the classes I enjoy, at my own pace.
Quick edit: as for transferring characters to retail, that’s where things get tricky. When the current Classic boss worked for her previous company, that company let their progression characters merge with their live servers when the progression server sugar high finally fades.
Blizz has stated they will not be merging characters to retail. That makes sense, because Blizz unlike the other company created content that was only available during certain phases of the game - think the Swift Zulian Tiger AQ bug mount, etc.
But I could see a world, with established future re-releases of fresh WoW Vanilla, that the displeasure among the Retail crowd could be reduced if they now know they have the chance to ‘go back’ and have their chance at those things they missed out on too, eventually having those characters and rewards merged into their Retail accounts. Honestly seems like a good play … will keep some subs up for years and years waiting for the eventual merger.
Yeah. I’m curious what will happen to the characters. I could see them bringing Pagle into WoD, and announcing an end-of-life for the legacy servers to give a way to purge and consolidate.

doubt this happens. as a new law has been introduced in cali that would prevent companies from closing live service games down. which is why i think companies like Sony is trying to expedite the closure of games like Destiny 2 to close down D2 but destiny 1. This would also be the nail in the coffin for Blizzard going after private server companies as these people would have the right to maintain those servers. i say leave up classic servers give us a couple a couple for each iteration vanilla tbc wrath cata mist and whatever else they go to. leave them up. then they can still take down other private server options. and lets be honest with those 5 options it severely limits the reach of other private servers out there.
Color me surprised someone actually knows who Holly is and why they hired her.

Hell yeah bro.. WoD all but confirmed..
…lol..
It’s neither. MoP doesn’t get any updates anymore and stays forever.
Did a quick search for this as I was completely ignorant of it. You can find the link to the bill text by searching for Protect Our Games Act.
For now, it’s just a bill, although it looks to have bipartisan support and is on its way to the CA Senate for committee debate this month, currently unscheduled.
With that said, it also only applies to games published after January 1, 2027. I think that gives a company like MS/Blizz with a lot of legal power to assert that WoW including its expansions would be exempt. It would certainly exempt any iteration of WoW published before this time.
Further, there are some ‘outs’, and some question about whether Blizz could just issue a refund. And it would of course only apply to California, which leaves open the question you raise about “community servers” aka private servers filling in for game titles whose servers are shut down by their creators. The way I see it, Blizz can probably still action any private server they want, anytime they want.
In short, I don’t think this bill applies to WoW at all. At least in its present form. But could very well apply to WoW 2/C+, and could suggest that the C+ launch will be before January 1, 2027…
Down the rabbit hole we go!
I thought WoD and Legion were pretty likely until I saw how badly they’re handling this patch and forcing retail features no one asked for in the game.
I still want WoD and Legion Classic.
WoD was not a bad expansion. It was just thin on content which went for 26 months. if it was maybe one third shorter than it was people likely would not have had such a negative view of the expansion. Legion is the logical end point.
Thanks for trolling with a spam post. This has been asked so many times recently, just scroll down a few posts. We will probally get some answers at Blizz Con. As for moving characters to retail, it will never happen. Most likely we get WOD. At worst we stay in perma MOP
The only truly accurate answer is that no one knows what will happen - maybe not even Blizzard if a decision has not been made and given final approval at the necessary level. If they have decided to keep us all in the dark until Blizzcon (quite likely) the best way to do this is not to HAVE nay final decision that could leak.
This is the best case.
They do. Work on Classic expansions do not happen out of the sudden. Especially with expansions as complex as WoD and Legion.
I hope they delete it all. EVERYTHING GONE.
I disagree. best case is we get legion and we stay there. which is the best expansion since Wrath. behind it is of course Mist.
That’s a “ok” case.
WoD and Legion Classic has no playerbase and people playing Classic would be able to do Legion content. They can barely do SoO. Also WoD had to be rushed to even get to Legion, good luck with that. Did you log in since patch 5.5.4 aka bug patch?
i’m aware of the issues of 5.5.4. this isn’t a result of the game. this is a result of them retailifying the game. if they didn’t put things like the edit mode in or similarly to the stupid tmog system in. we wouldn’t have these issues. and if you want to play that game. please look at the past expansions that launched in a terrible state. look at SL and BFA. those games launched in a rough state. people are still logging in. i’m not concerned about the content until i don’t see people playing the game. also if you’re judging it on forum posts thats a poor metrics.
No it’s the lack of dev time assigned by Blizzard. There is no “retailification”. It is as always - they take the current retail version as base. Midnight was a rather big expansion that brought this new transmog system and complete UI overhaul. Same thing will happen at some point with the anniversary client. Hopefully they get more devs assigned to work on that.
These were current content. Classic is not. In retail you have nothing else but accept the current state if you like retail version of wow (m+, difficulty raids, etc). In Classic you can simply say no. You don’t even pay for an expansion.
