Except they’re not completely different. People on here are literally talking about hexes, spirit animals, and wards. All of that is currently in the Shaman class. The only stuff being brought up that shaman couldn’t do is stuff that is being done by other classes like poisons and diseases.
At the end of the day what we’re pushing here is a Shaman with a smattering of Warlock and Rogue abilities. Not good enough for a class, but could be a hero talent tree if Blizzard ever felt that it simply had to exist.
More accurately, I don’t want to see the Shaman class gutted like the Warlock class was to make Demon Hunters (btw, Warlocks would be gutted by this as well). Additionally, I’d like to avoid adding classes to the game that we essentially already have.
Shaman or maybe a 4th spec for Priests? It’s sort of limited that they’re JUST Light and Void or both, Priests exist across several races, same with Shamans, we could all around use more racial customization to core classes that already exist, before we start adding new ones.
The biggest drive for “new classes and races” just seems to largely be from the complete placidity of what we already have, and it’s true, there isn’t much there. But rather than put in a new race or class that like the last few will just be half-baked, we’d be better served frankly fleshing out what is already there and a work in progress.
While the dev team mentioned no more specs, we could see more Hero talent trees that are effectively the same effect.
Seems like you’re hellbent on being ignorant honestly; witch doctors are not shamans in warcraft.
Also, the hero tree is not a class, all it does is amplify certain aspects of the base kit as per their design philosophy. Enhance does not use anything shown in that video, neither does elemental, and neither does resto.
That’s irrelevant. This thread is about adding a Witch Doctor class to the retail version of WoW, not an unofficial version of WoW.

But they literally are. Again, the Shaman class possesses abilities from both the Witch Doctor and the Shadow Hunter from WC3.

It doesn’t need to be a class, that’s the point. If Hunters can get Dark Rangers, Shaman can get Shadow Hunters. It’s essentially a similar stretch of the thematic, and Shaman are far closer to Shadow Hunters than Hunters were to Dark Rangers.
It is relevant, because you’re making uninformed opinions when something fleshed out as a witch doctor concept exists under a WoW lore pretense, which Blizzard could very easily copy & paste.
They literally are not the same. Vol’Jin had no command over the elements, etc
Blizzard won’t add witch doctors, but acting like they are the same thing is foolishness
It’s completely irrelevant because you’re pointing to some fan-made game as evidence that a Witch Doctor class could work in WoW when that fan-made game isn’t abiding by the same standards or measures that retail WoW does.
For example, CoA doesn’t have the Shaman class, so obviously you can have a Witch Doctor class when there’s no Shaman class to stand in the way.

Vol’jin had Healing Wave, Hex, Serpent Ward, and Big Bad Voodoon. Shaman either got variations or straight up ports of those abilities.
It is different from a shaman. Haitian Vodou is a syncretic religion that developed in Haiti, combining West African traditions, especially from the Yoruba, Fon, and Ewe peoples, with aspects of Catholicism and other influences. It is also a closed practice that requires initiation. A male priest is called an Oungan or Houngan, while a female priestess is known as a Mambo. A sorcerer is referred to as a Bòkò. This is the foundation on which Voodoo magic is loosely based.
In World of Warcraft (WoW), shamans are based on various real-world indigenous spiritual practices, particularly those of Native American, Siberian, and other shamanistic traditions. These traditions often involve a deep connection to nature, ancestral spirits, and the elements (earth, air, fire, and water).
The problem with hero talents in general is they don’t add enough visual or gameplay elements. Look at Dark Ranger… it could have been so much better. It just feels like a Hunter with crows… barely any visual changes outside the wings. I think Witch Doctor has the potential to be a full class with Shadow Hunter as a spec. I don’t want that same poor treatment. Witch Doctors and Shadow Hunters deserve more. Shamans throwing lighting is not what people wanting to play a Voodoo themed class want.
