Preserved for the future President Doness library!!
I will just note that when night elves die, they’re usually wisps for a while before moving on to… the Arbiter, I guess. And given that they’re night elves, mostly probably on to Ardenweald from there.
So Elune’s intervention was probably intended to be sending them directly to the Shadowlands without the long hiatus as glowy blue balls of hate.
I cant really see how. She didn’t MAKE the writers retcon her pre-established powers over death lol. Novels didnt just imply it, they sort of confirmed it as well. The new writing team just doesn’t like Elune or something, they don’t seem to like the Emerald Dream either.
I feel like “Elune manipulated Sylvanas into burning down Teldrassil!” is the new “Tyrande, I NEED YOU is why Malfurion sucks.” In that it’s pretty obvious that’s not the writers’ intent.
The Dream isn’t an afterlife, but a Titan blueprint for the world they wound up shaping. So it’s job is essentially done.
As for “not liking Elune” she’s been given the best scene and development that she’s ever had in the franchise. You’ve been given the first (and most likely only) glimpse into her as a person.
IDK. I mean, have you been keeping up with this story lately?
At this point, I’m giving it 50/50 odds that Elune secretly manipulated Zovaal into everything he did, including the Burning.
We got lucky the fake Tyrande in the Night Fae escort Shandris through the Maw quest was overt enough for even the most irrational of people to realize it wasn’t her. There are still people who didn’t comprehend that Xavius was making illusions of Malfurion that we have to keep correcting over and over again. And the people who misunderstand Elune and Teldrassil are somehow even more confused than them.
Proof that anyone can easily twist the narrative to suit confirmation bias.
Yeah in current lore. Previously lore actually very explicitly said the opposite for about 14-15ish years.
Idk lol the person who wrote it basically said on twitter she didn’t actually think of the ‘It was Xavius’ thing but thinks its better.
I feel like G’hanir was always meant to be Ardenweald but they retconned 15 yeaes of lore just to make Shadowlands fit.
They they doubled back and said “G’hanir is just for birds and dragons!”
It was also meant to be were Wild Gods were renewed in a sleep cycle… so Ardenweald.
Eonar should have been the WQ sister not Elune and I will stand by that. Sean Copeland doesn’t know anything about lore.
Maybe even in current lore?
My theory is that Elune is part of another death pantheon.
Or maybe a Life pantheon? She’s almost surely somrtung akin to an Eternal One, being a sister of the Winter Queen and all that.
She feels guilty for sending her elves to the Shadowlands without knowing about the Maw situation.
Her death domain is the Emerald Dream which is probably her version of Ardenweald.
However, what is specially weird is that she’s able to direct souls to another realm. Either she’s above other Eternal Ones or she’s a counterpart to Zovaal (the Arbiter, originally).
The same Quest line of the cutscene hints at previous conflict between the sisters, which (tin foil hat on) may imply Elune rebelled against her pantheon, did the same thing Zovaal is trying to do (whatever that is), created her own reality, a mirror version of this one but corrupted by her domain (Emerald Dream), settled a truce with whoever she was at war with, and ascended. Her reality is not messed up as Zovaal’s so the high ones were ok with it. Maybe she was forced to do so. (tin foil hat off)
It doesn’t seem to be that more complicated than the Winter Queen simply being pissed at her sister for ignoring her cry for help. Turned out she didn’t, but the aid she sent got directed to the Maw instead.
The flavor text I’m referring to came from a fae that inferred said complicated history before the current situation, though.
