Winners and losers of covenants

Well we know how it’s going to play out now, so which classes are looking like they’re going to come off alright as of this moment

Rogues are looking great, no brainer choice in necrolord and we can use that across every single spec for all types of content

If they try to rebalance it, they’ll have to seriously buff the over covenants and nerf this one (even if they nerf it 50% it would still be better than the other covenants and won’t require conduit investment)

If they give it a sweeping nerf and gutter it then everyone will have a good reason to be concerned

Also we get the necro shield which is nice because we have a lot of ability and I play outlaw so I’ve already got the venthyr teleport but I don’t have a shield that provides immunity to CC so that’s a plus

How is your class looking?

Oh yeah I guess I get to make a ghoul rather than go to a tea party so I guess that’s neat

Winner: people who can simply roll multiple alts and just bypass this problem entirely

Loser: ppl who don’t want to, or don’t have time to roll multiple alts.

GGWP.

Lol, having tons of alts these days is super easy, hell maintaining them is super easy even, so anyone can do it regardless of the amount of time they play unless they don’t want to.

How much time do you think people have to play

To level up, do all your chores then gear up - on the same classssss what

Mage in general seems fine. According to DPS rankings, frost is excellent, arcane is good, and fire is next to terrible. I just think the people playing fire are probably doing it wrong, but I’ll find out when the game releases. Venthyr is probably the covenant choice for mage (lucked out there because that’s the one I wanted), but the siphoned malice conduit will probably get nerfed mid expansion once it starts giving +60% spell damage.

I don’t think Warrior loses at all because no matter what covenant, the powers are still good. There are obvious ones that are better. But not too much better.

From a personal standpoint, I like both Condemn and Spear. And wish I could switch to one or the other in different situations. Because they are good for completely different things.

The aesthetic of any of the Covenants doesn’t really fit Warrior. Necro and Kyrian come somewhat close but are missing a lot.

You don’t do any content where you can actually fail.

The necro one for warriors sounds useful but boring

Condemn on the other hand almost had me reroll because of the animation

Losers: everyone who plays more than one spec of their class, or does more than one main activity.

you PvP and Raid?? sucks to be you.

I like how there’s some forum egoist who think this is sticking it up to mythic raiders, where mythic raiders will just find another way.

What about people who just play regular content? Someone with a job and limited time to play?

the covenant system sticks it to everyone.

Yes it does. Some just don’t see it yet.

Only people who get minor inconvenicence are ones who play 1 character with 1 spec that on top of that does mostly world quests.

I like the idea of the banner, but not really the implementation. It’s awkward.

Yes, I agree on that condemn animation. It’s all wrong for Fury especially.

This is all why I still have not settled on a Covenant, lol.

Priest is kind of a mixed bag. From a purely PVE perspective:

The four Covenant spells are all pretty interesting for Disc. Unholy Nova (Necrolords) is the least useful, but that’s only because Blizzard went all-out and completely gutted the healing that Unholy Nova provides. Unholy Nova used to be the go-to spell for Disc Priests earlier on in Alpha and Beta. Fae Guardians (Night Fae) is… alright. It’s not super impactful in M+ so it’s likely to be more of a raid talent. It’s a neat idea. It fits into the Night Fae theme of generally being a more utility-focused spell then raw damage or healing. Mindgames (Venthyr) is a very strong single target nuke that fits into Disc nicely. Boon of the Ascended (Kyrian) is outstanding; it’s an exciting throughput cooldown to press that’s incredibly useful in a wide variety of situations.

But there’s a problem with Priests: all these spells work best with Disc.

Shadow: none of the four Covenant spells provide much that impacts Shadow’s mechanics or rotation. They’re all bad, you just have to choose which is the least bad. Boon of the Ascended, which was so great for Disc, actually just replaces the Shadow rotation and feels absolutely awful to use because of that. Fae Guardians provides extra insanity over time, and because of that, it has the distinction of being the only Covenant spell that actually uses Shadow’s gameplay mechanics in any way, shape, or form. Mindgames doesn’t do much. Unholy Nova is just some AoE damage.

Holy: Similar problem as Shadow. Boon of the Ascended remains a powerful effect and is a solid cooldown to use. Unholy Nova brings extra damage and not much else. MIndgames does nothing. Fae Guardians chips in and provides a little utility, and is likely a bit better in M+ for Holy than Disc because you can actually keep your PW:S on a single target more consistently.

Really, the part that stands out for me is that none of the spells are interesting or powerful for Shadow. It’s just not a good situation there.

Even when I used to, I still had multiple well geared alts, so it’s not hard, having alts and geared alts hasn’t been hard since they started literally handing out gear and added catch up mechanisms that hand everything to your all of your alts faster.

Right here, guilty. Feeling really, really annoyed at this whole system. I just want to quest, explore, queue in BGs, and run the occasional heroic. And forget playing my Pally or Druid and multi-speccing. I guess I’ll just main my Mage since at least I won’t feel FOMO about gimping my second spec.

I play boomkin. As far as I know, we have the only covenant ability (Venthyr Ravenous Frenzy) that is actually unusable in PVP because it will kill you and give your opponents a free stun against you.

As of right now warlocks seem to be winning by going with necrolords but aesthetically I’d much much MUCH rather be venthyr.

Not everyone has 10 hours a day to farm anima on every alt and do 10 mythic+ runs a day, and raid on every alt.

Some like to just… you know… play the game… on 1 character maybe, with 3 specs, not having to make an alt just to play another spec.

I still can’t land on a main, I want to 'cause I hate spreading my time and effort across various characters. It’s fun on alts AFTER THE FACT but not during. FOR ME.
