Windwalker vs Feral

Can anyone who plays these 2 specs advise me on their top level differences in terms of gameplay? Or are they pretty much the same? Is one more fun than the other in your opinion?

Thanks!

I’m far from an expert, but I can assure you these are two very different playstyles. Really the only thing in common is the fact that they are both melee, and are both considered more difficult specs to perfect.

Feral: main focus is on DoTs. Also bring solid off-heals (especially when specced into Bloodtalons)

WW: Not DoT oriented. Main focus is rotating through abilities without using the same ability twice.

Not to be that guy but feral hasn’t been hard since snapshotting and hit combo isnt anywhere near an engaging or diffuclt mechanic unless you have BFA brain.

Conclusion: Your spec is gonna get replaced by a rogue.

Wouldn’t a rogue be lacking in the utility dept vs a monk or druid? I do like my self heals.

Best class for negating mechanics (evasion, cloak, feint, cheat if you want), melee, strong (infinite) aoe as of rn, shroud, amazing CC capabilites if the opportunity ever arises, literally opne of the best for overall utilization, but I assume your not here to roll a rogue, was just a jab at the state of the game

It’s definitely easier than what it was, but it’s still more challenging than other specs (which is what I said).

These are both fine specs to play. If you are going to argue ā€œyou’ll just be replaced by insert spec hereā€ you have to become an altaholic because the meta constantly changes

Not even close. There’s a reason top m+ teams require at least 1 rogue, and why there were 1 prot warr, 1 resto druid, 3 outlaw rogue teams in the MDI.

Not an expert - Two different game play styles - both are mediocre FOR ME in terms of ā€˜ā€˜fun’’ - WW hits like a wet noodle while Feral has you really working to push DPS that other specs can much more easily do of equal or more. Monks in general is a love/hate thing, Feral I just don’t like the combat point system, keeping up bleeds etc…

Tough call…

Feral’s rotation is more forgiving than it used to be but if you mess up it still hurts you quite a bit. WW is way easier to play to get the same or greater DPS than Feral, if that matters to you. I prefer Feral though because of Druids other utility as well as the fact it has four specs so I have lots of choices in how I play.

Rogues are one of the top classes in terms of utility /shrug

They’re pretty different.

Windwalker’s rotation/priority still leans on not using repeat abilities back to back (a lot less now than compared to Legion’s gameplay) and relies heavily on frontloading your damage to coincide with Karma and touch of death. The rest of the time you’re spinning bottles a bit.

Feral’s rotation isn’t as hard as it used to be, and I didn’t get into Feral until Legion, but it’s mostly about keeping dots up. Blood Talons makes the rotation a bit weird at first.

I’d say Feral’s rotation feels more like a builder spender than WW does, even though they both are.

Out of the three I’d say monk’s the weakest in utility. The AOE stun is nice, but it’s no shroud or decurse.

I like all three. Of those three I prefer rogue, but my main’s a monk, because I don’t only play WW, I also have Brm.

Edit - and of the two you mentioned, based on your preference of being topped up with heals, I’d go with Feral. WW questing, for example, can be a bit touch and go while gearing. Feral’s rotation has you healing yourself every few globals and you can always stealth or turn into a bear in a pinch.

id look at their off specs before you make a choice if they nerf ww monk what are you going to play?

with druid if feral is bad you can go balance.

WW hits harder but feels clunky in its rotation

In pvp ww is stronger in every aspect right now and works with a multitude of comps in 2v2 and 3v3 where feral has like 1 or 2 viable comps for each that are like b-tier comps at best. M+ and raids I don’t really know, but both (obviously) have really viable off specs as well

My issue with feral atm as I’ve been leveling it’s that it’s basic core rotation seems to be confusing to me. It appears to have 2 types of finishers wheras all the other classes have just one. And I must be doing something wrong as it’s dps is bottom tier compared to other tooms I’ve leveled in the passed. Admittedly my druid is only level 20. But it’s strange that the pally and warrs are doing 2-3 times my dps in dungeons. Does druid really require end game to catch up?

From what it sounds like, it appears ww has a rotation that may be more up my alley. Idk.

Dps while Leveling is totally scuffed. So much of the class balancing and power comes from azerite traits. My feral off spec has 3 wild flesh rending traits which almost doubles the damage of swipe and shred to targets that have thrash on them. As you can imagine that makes a significant difference to overall damage.

Utility is totally situational. In m+ if you don’t have a resto druid a feral could be good to root emissaries etc or have a stealth and res. Feral utility is totally covered by resto except for the aoe sprint which isn’t super string.
Rogues have an absolutely ridiculous arsenal of utility though if you know how to use it.
Shroud
Distract
Sap (a rare true cc)
Blind
Gauge
Stuns on short cds
Tricks of the trade for all sorts of uses.
Immunities which are crazy strong in all content
Vanish
And probably more I can’t think of immediately.

Something that can really help, especially just starting out with a spec, is to download the Hekili addon. It’s a rotation helper that will get you on the right track!

Such a vague question.

What do you plan on doing with it?

WW is pretty much better at everything except raid DPS.

Honestly I would stay away from Feral. I would rank it with the 2 Shaman dps specs as almost always in a bad spot save a patch here or there. Even its utility is mediocre imo compare to some melee specs, and Boomkin is almost always going to be more in demand as its ranged.

At least with WW, Blizzard has to somewhat balance it as its the only monk dps spec. Sure there will be droughts, but it will be a focus of theirs to fix as the majority of players simply do not want to heal or tank.

Feral though has really been in the dark for the most part since WOLK. I can count on one hand the amount of times since then that its been better than moonkin. Also, because they have stealth, if they ever encroach on the rogue class, the only pure melee dps in the game, you best bet there will be crying/fixes asap.
