oh look, another person using purist as an insult. you say that you don’t care what is default, but you’re literally sitting here arguing about it. which makes zero sense to anyone with an ounce of logic.
You’re talking about the file structure, and the code side. That’s fine, it’s simple, I agree. it should be.
I’m talking about the “new better animations” vs “the old animations” because that quite literally is two people looking at the same place at the same time, and seeing different things because the animations themselves are different. This is potentially an even bigger deal on the PvP side of things.
This also ignores the matter of “my” control over how “my” character looks. If I want the old texture, why should I have to make any consideration for the new textures? It wasn’t something “I” had to concern “myself” with during Vanilla after all.
Okay, so we let each player toggle for themselves… Now we’re going to have Classic purists pissed because they’re seeing updated character models running around in their game, and others pissed because they’re having to see these “old unsightly models” running about the place. Which isn’t to mention that’s a visual mess Blizzard would just as soon avoid.
Easier option is to offer “as authentic an experience as possible” and simply not include the new models, because they’re not authentic to Classic WoW.
Higher graphics settings in and of themselves could be argued. As You could probably have (theoretically) set a number of those settings to those levels even back in 2005, assuming the client had been configure to allow you to. You just would have likely been playing at a frame rate that could measured by the minute rather than second.
there is no difference in the animations other then fluidity… They are timed the same…and REALLY it’s going to make PVP unbalanced? a elf jump is still the same elf jump doing the same motion…if it makes pvp different to you i think you got issues…
it;s also CLIENT SIDE so you see HD or Classic that simple
My understanding is casting animations and a few other things have been changed over the years. I don’t honestly remember what the old animations are, and I’m not enough of a purist to honestly care. But I can understand where others are coming from.
For Vanilla PvP, I DO remember that being able to identify a particular upcoming attack by its animation rather than its castbar was a commonly acquired skill. I also recall that certain PvP players also used that in other ways. But if there is suddenly a second set of animations in play…
this applies to both NEW and OLD
EACH race/sex has a a direct and Omni casting, and loops of both of these, this is just what is displayed, none of these actually change the timing of a spell and how it is launched because that is calculated server side. all your computer does is display the initial cast and loops as long as needed.
The new models have extra class casting animations, but because we are in Classic wow, THEY WILL EXIST in the new models, but will never be called or displayed unless blizzard manually did something which is risky and wonky.
And people are going to want them turned on, because they’re there. Now excuse me while I go get some popcorn and watch those festivities unfold should Blizzard ever go down that road. I’m personally inclined to suspect the new models won’t be there, in any form.
there is no turning them on, they already are part of the model, just not being used. as it should be because that over complicates it and means more time and money trying to make it work. which long term sure maybe, i am looking for something to happen with release and a basic toggle fits that because the new model can do everything the old can, so just stick with what the old can do,
but to MAT a default setting on this changes nothing because we are never calling the new cast animations ever as all the values are set from a classic standpoint.
so if it changes nothing, why are you still arguing about it, instead of just saying okay? if it changes nothing, you get what you want right? so why bother arguing the point?
i’m just asking for clarification. it’s quite simple.
if the roles were reversed in this and you asked me to at least let old be default i’d do this
“Yeah that’s okay”.
because it literally changes nothing. (according to you).
but for some reason you keep trying to argue the point, which to me makes me suspicious of if something isn’t wrong.
Except that Blizzard never handled it that way in Legion, they used one set of animations and rig with “skins” for the lack of the correct nomenclature.
and they only did that to save development time because they would need to animate two different rigs, and animation is one the most costly parts.
This is why the old model in the end was scrapped because it didn’t work good enough for people and it was becoming a hassle.
and the rig is tied to the model, so even though they used the same rig it was technically two different rigs in terms of database
but because we are going backwards…there is no animation issues as THE NEW RIG on the new model has all the old animations + more the more will be ignored, but the old and New can work together and already have on private servers because they are structure exactly the same in terms of classic usability not so much for WOD+.
