Will the World Soul Saga be the end of World of Warcraft?

With the World Soul Saga coming out at the same time as the 25th anniversary and blizz working to revamp a lot of of the old world, as well as the Titan story line wrapping with that saga, I dont see much else they can do. The game would be working with a 25 year old engine.

I’m thinking that Blizzard will finish out/polish the world, finish their story and then come out with either a “WOW 2” or some other type of new MMO with a new engine and a whole new world to create.

What do you all think? Will WOW be over after the World Soul Saga?

I don’t think they’ll ever pull the plug on WoW so long as they can continue making money off of it. At some point I wouldn’t be surprised if they shift to just the occasional patch with a new zone/dungeon/etc instead of full-blown expansions, though.

But as far as the main narrative goes? Maybe. In fictional settings you can literally always come up with something new, it’s just a matter of whether or not they think that’s a good use of the company’s time/resources.

WoW is the only game where even players who claim to dislike the game stay subbed.

You and me both, though I just want a WoW2 to come out so they can upgrade the spaghetti code holding this game engine up plus they can rewrite everything, make the “support” role be an actual role in the game with like 5 or 7 specs in total around it. They can make dungeons be 6 or 8 man content instead of 5, raids can become 15 man mythic raiding or go back to 10 man mythic raiding and just have less classes, but more specs per class instead.

We can redo the whole tank and healer roles, too, and make tanks able to actually taunt players in PvP into literally auto attacking the tank who taunted them which would be really cool to do. Even if it’s a caster and the tank casts Taunt the caster player just goes over n tries to melee the tank with their staff.

Like there’s a lot of things that they could improve upon in WoW2 that they can’t do right now.

Maybe have more classes becoming tanks and healers, too, so there’s more tanks, healers, and more supports in the game.

They’ll never truly end WOW; WOW will end when players stop buying expansions. I don’t want to see WOW end, but if I am going to pay 50$-70$ for a game that I will keep doing the same thing with nothing remotely new then I’m done. I can’t keep running M+ and Raids forever, I want something new and exciting.

What’s being mismanaged?

if you have to ask you’re blind

I think it’s incredibly stupid to spend resources to revamp a world that you are just going to shut down soon after anyway.

The talent trees and class design / abilities.

Love the transmog, BTW.

Blizzard already said they plan to support World of Warcraft for the next twenty years…

My next comment is cynical, and I’m not a biz person (so take this with a grain of salt), but if you’re already subbed and providing revenue for WoW - which is an allegedly mismanaged product - what more would they get from you if they improved?

So when you mention it’s mismanaged - and if I’m looking at the bottom line - in your case, it seems well-managed.

Thanks man!

Talent trees and class design is something I can’t comment on because I think there’s good gameplay for what I do, so I’ll take your word for it.

They specifically said this is not the case. They preemptively answered this question because they knew it could be seen as a potential ending.
