The quest for the legendary cloak could stand to be skipable after you’ve already done it. I’ve heard folks say it’s an easy 30 minute thing but they’re mis-remembering; it’s easily a 3 hour quest chain involving traveling to multiple continents and instances.
Essences could likely be made more friendly to alternate characters as well. Maybe make them purchasable for gold after you’ve obtained them or even make them account bound.
As far as leveling the neck and cloak, that’s fine.
But really, Ive only got 2 characters and the thought of sitting thru the cloak quest and especially re aquiring essences has made me delay rolling a DPS class to screw around on.

Yeah, they spent all the time in the world coming up catch up mechanics and dropping welfare gear from the sky. So yeah, I agree, they ruined alts since they killed most of the power progression this whole expansion.
Most players think alt-friendly means having alts equal to mains with little to no extra work. This is the wrong genre for that. This isn’t Fortnite or Call of Duty.
From what others are saying it to be, yes. Part of the reason BfA wasn’t so alt friendly was because the huge leveling system. Having to go through old zones just to get to 120. BORING! Especially leveling in Kul Tiras or Zandalar. And then the amount of grinds you have to do just to be at par with everyone else.
I believe they squished a lot of things to make it alt friendly. We’ll just have to see.
Then why did you feel compelled to reply to state so? You clearly care.
Alternative character indeed. Meaning an entire new progression path. Yet, when people decry things for being Alt unfriendly it’s because they actually have to do just that. So it appears to me that Blizzard don’t hate alts. Players do.
Careful now, you’re about to step into the white knight zone. Once you come over here there is no going back.
What…? There is no character progression in those games.
Exactly. That’s my whole point.
Also they are rolling with friends. Or getting really lucky with high population in the area at the time. this can get this to maybe an hour, hour and a half.
I have had close to one of these dream runs out of my 8 runs. Tons of people on. Big point value objectives smashed hard. Boss had no chance.
And in that rare night the elite rares were out, I was in the hood, and so were lots of new temporary best friends. You drop a few of these in the desert and pandaria runs…this stuff goes fast AF really.
then there was the time I did it with s. priest. All alone. Took forever at 390 gear to get those 1%'s. Then I waited on the bosses at the end. I waited forever for people to show up.
I care that you’re using a bad argument, but no I don’t care what you think a different character should be called.
You know what happens when you say this to people?
Customer: I don’t have fun playing my alts anymore.
Sweaty Guy: yOu jUSt WaNt MaINs!!
Customer: Uh, ok I’m still not having fun with this other character, think I’m gonna peace out.

Legion & BFA were both extremely bad for alts, so I don’t see why Shadowlands would be any different. Good luck playing an alt.
yea logging into an alt only to see their azerite necklace or whatever its called is at level 49, and then seeing I had to do the cloak quest all over again… made me log off immediately
I liked that with Legion I got a new story to play through and new mage tower challenge for every class I had. There was still the problem with the artifact power grind but I remember it being more interesting than BfA. I remember I got 7 characters to max level and played at least 3 of them consistently. BfA I have only had the motivation to play 1.
Fewer grinds and not making me re-play zones or quests in order to join a covenant and start collecting sets sounds like a better experience.
