Will playable Ogre races ever be a thing?

It’s been over a decade blizzard. Please, create an allied ogre race. 1 headed ogres are fine; you don’t need to make the 2-player doubled headed april fools ogre thing a reality (though that would be insanely cool).

Just make those ogres from WoD a playable race in 9.0. The models and animations are there already. Make me run on another stupid timegated hamster wheel for weeks if you want. Justify it with more hacky time-travel shenanigans, just…just give the horde some dignity to balance out the furry/pretty nonsense you’ve mixed into the flavor that used to be the horde…just give horde ogres already.

Edit: do posts like this ever actually reach blizzard devs? Or are posts like this mostly fruitless?

You’ll have your Vulpera and you’ll like it.

No.
No one would play a female KulTiran.

People would play male Ogres at the very least. I, for one, have been waiting to make a blue two-headed ogre Warlock for a very long time.

Ogres on the Horde are my most wanted race, currently. My opinion is that the best way to go about them is as a core race with the Stonemaul Clan representing the playable Ogres, who are a clan of Ogres already part of the Horde and have a history with the Horde, in some fashion. I’ve typed up many ideas and scenarios in the Ogre Megathread, so it isn’t impossible to reintroduce them somehow, but as it is, they’re stuck in limbo along with the other two clans part of the Horde. Seems odd that the world has been in danger multiple times and theres a big war going on, and the Horde Ogres have just disappeared into fat air. You’d think they’d play some part in assisting the Horde, especially since the Stonemaul Clan owes a lot to the Horde.

It seems like Ogres get the short end of the stick. Rumors were that they were originally going to be one of the races at WoW’s launch and might have been playable during WoD. They were almost the Horde race chosen for Cataclsym before being replaced by Goblins.

I’ve wanted playable Horde Ogres since Burning Crusade, and will always continue to support them. With any luck, we’ll see them sooner than later.

Umm. I mostly agree with you op except that I totally need to see 2 headed ogres. And you can name each one.

They should give Ogres to the Horde and Shivarra to the Alliance. THOSE would be some fun allied races.

If my account was able to link images, this is where I would link one of those meme photos of michael jordan crying. There you go, now it’s in your head anyways.

Ogres should get a racial ability to eat gnomes or vulpera for a buff.

As to the kul tiran women comment, there you have a perfectly moddable, rigged model for the ogre females. Although, just using the same male model for both ogre genders and just saying one is female (plus maybe change the dressing room options to cover their chests at all times and give them some pretty belf pigtail hairstyles too) would, in my mind, redeem blizzard of all their tomfoolery and ballyhoo up to this point.

Old devs always wanted to pull off Ogres, don’t think new ones are interested in that, you’ll have your foxes and that’s end of it.

I’ve been wanting to see them become a playable race for a while as well. Ogres are an iconic part of the Horde and we’ve hardly ever seen them working with the Horde.

That sounds fun. I have always loved the concept of Shivarra being in the Alliance.

Feminazi’s will complain they can’t be female ogres, or lore nuts will complain that we have female ogres as a playable race.

Well ogres do need females to procreate, unlike say Sethrak, they could work as same look for both genders, monogender too, just singular gender.

I hope not.

Interestingly enough, there is a female Ogre that appears in the WoW Traveler’s book series and either that book series or another source mentions female Ogres living on an island. I’ll need to hunt for that particular piece of lore again, so all I have is my word for that part.

On another note, I am happy to see others want Ogres playable as well, and it is frustrating to have waited so long to want them playable (since Burning Crusade for me!), but I would like to respectfully suggest that we show support for Ogres without yelling at Blizzard or insulting other playable or possibly-playable races.

Please do not take what I said the wrong way. I’m always happy to see others who want Ogres, and other races I want playable, but yelling at Blizzard isn’t the right way to go about giving feedback. It’s good to show support, but if Blizzard is getting any form of feedback for races people want, they’re likely not going to pay much attention to posts that they might perceive as hostile towards them.

It’s understandable to be frustrated. Ogres have been part of Warcraft in general for a long time, and in WoW, the Stonemaul Clan have been…err…well…sitting around, picking their noses, getting drunk while still not having gotten their home back in Dustwallow Marsh, but it doesn’t help our case to attack other races that get in, nor does it help to yell at Blizzard about said races getting in.

As I said before elsewhere on the forums, we should come together as fans of the game in supporting races we want playable. It doesn’t mean that it’ll never happen, and new races are great cash cows for Blizzard to continue to keep adding into the game, so it’s likely we’ll see new races still be a feature in future WoW expansions. It just gives the wrong idea to complain about race A or race B when trying to show support for the race you want, is all.

That said, keep showing support for Ogres, but I respectfully suggest we do so in a manner that is more likely to be noticed. I honestly feel like Ogres are a matter of when and not if, and my hope for them will always burn with passion.

Two-Headed Ogres for casters, single headed ogres for Martial classes and Single and double eye customization alongside facial hair, and head hair. Also female Ogres. Peach, Red, and Blue skin tones with tattoos.

Ogrezonia is what you are thinking of. Basically an island of ogre amazon snu-snu lore waiting to happen.

The main problem about playable Ogres was how big they are in relation to other models. Due to the infrastructure of the game world, races won’t get much bigger than Tauren because then they wouldn’t be able to fit through certain doors / hallways. So race size is really the big hurdle as to why we don’t have ogres yet, even though there are plenty of Ogres that are already part of the Horde.

Getting Tauren sized Ogres would be about the only solution and I believe Blizzard came out and said that they don’t want to do that because it just wouldn’t seem right.

It feels like a fine concession to me. I would rather have Tauren sized ogres and no ogres at all. Call them “half-ogres” if you must but make them look exactly like ogres. The other half can be Orc, and they can be Mok’Nathal like Rexxar, except they look 100% like Ogres.

Hogres? Horcs? Hogorcs?

No, any other questions?

They should just make the hit box like halfway up their body and/or make a crouch animation for going inside
