I played vanilla but I cannot remember if when we got flying in BC were we able to fly in Azeroth as well as the BC zones? Also, will there be flying in Azeroth once players can fly in BC classic?
flying in Azeroth came with cata when they redesigned the zones
It will only be in Outlands.
Flying came with Cata when they revamped the world. Even if they wanted to add flight to the 1-60 zones in TBC Classic, those zones are not designed around flying. There’s a ton of unfinished terrain as soon as you get outside the normal play areas.
That’s why they had to revamp the world to get flying in.
is also some things players are never meant to see stuck in normally inaccessible areas. like an early version of nax just sitting out in the middle of nowhere. and I think a version of Stratholme as well
Yeah as far as I know Stratholme is still there. There’s a ton of invisible walls to stop even fliers from getting to that part of the world in retail even today.
It’s like they got there and went “screw it, we’re not fixing this”.
Flying in Azeroth, while convenient, kinda ruined a lot of things.
After listening to what the developers at Blizzard have said since WoD, they have said that flight ruined the game.
Are these folks changing their tune or are they just admitting they were clueless idiots all along?
Hind sight is just sorta that way. Flight is a nice idea and it could exist without breaking the game, but most people who like flying want to fly all the time.
The only way I can think of to make flying work in a game like WoW is to give it a maximum flight time, like 10 or 15 min tops. Then after you dismount it’s on cooldown for at least 45 min.
This way flying is a very useful tool, but something that you don’t get to use to circumvent content.
Blizzard instead does the whole flight unlock nonsense in retail and it doesn’t work either.
Or you know, you could create content that makes flying dangerous and actually makes it a personal choice to fly or ride instead of some decision to just limit flying for the sake of limiting flying
Or they could make zones that are designed with flying mounts in mind. I feel that there are really only two examples of this in Storm Peaks and arguably Netherstorm.
Trying to level in Hillsbrad only to get ganked by someone on a flying mount that can scout you anywhere.
Sounds fun where do I sign up
Or maybe have the content on the ground compelling enough to actually land.
I’m pretty sure it’s impossible for Blizzard to put in flying in Azeroth even if they wanted to. I remember reading back in the day is that the programming wasn’t set up for it. I think they’d have to rebuild a lot of stuff from the ground up to add flying. That’s why it was introduced in the world revamp in Cataclysm.
Can you fly in TBC areas in Azeroth on retail? I haven’t checked in a while, but I know you couldn’t in Cataclysm. You had to use a ground mount in those areas.
Flying was only in Outland as i remember.
What do you mean? Blizz designed all of shadowlands around flying and then didn’t give it to us. Have you tried to do anything in revendreth?
I make it a point not to play SL so I wouldn’t know. I noped out halfway through Ardenweald.
There is no Northrend in TBC.
There is no Shadowlands in TBC.
There is only Flying in Outland in TBC.
cataclysm is when we flew in Azeroth.
As was said earlier, Flight came with Cataclysm. Classic zones would need to be redesigned for them to add flight, since it only looks finished from the angles we can see on the ground.
This is the wrongest you’ve ever been.
