Will Blizzard jump ship after 9.1, pull a WoD maneuver?

Can I get 1 more highly

Xpac came out in November, it’s end of March at the moment, how the hell did you get 250+ days in 4 month and change? Stay in school, math is important.

The crazy part is that the raid launched early december.

I find it weird that we’re always supposed to hate the big baddy in an expac. like, thinking back deathwing? kind of a giant jerk. Garrosh? really awful german politician. (after the retcons – Garrosh, not the other guy) Blackhand was just a blacksmith in a giant factory, after that there was
some demons n Guldan. Guldan dies mid-tier like dum-dum, Big demon guy gets yeeted.
But did anyone actually dislike those characters at all?

The big baddies don’t really have anything that really makes them “bad” as of late. G’huun? we kinda just crash his mold party. “Oh, he’s sucking the essence of azeroth dry, tho!” I mean
many creatures on this planet live with parasites and we adjust. Jaina?
yeah I dunno, King Rastafarian? yeah, no clue. Papa N’zoth? he was just a weirdo that was into the japanese anime.

The jailer is really no different, I don’t hate him, I don’t even think about him. Heck, why are we even trespassing in Daddy Darnassus’s castle? he’s just chillin drinkin anime. Lol, I just realized I forgot that 4th bfa raid, the Ruby Sanctum thing with two bosses.

You said specifically that boomkins were doing full raids in vanilla, which they were not.

Let me refresh your memory

Im all for them 'WoD’ing this one away.

I’m also all for extended intervals between expansions. Its clear that something isnt working anymore, and its more than likely trying to push too much into such a short span of developement time.

Even if they have multiple teams, its clear that one team is just dropping the ball harder than the others.

They totally painted themselves into a corner by designing an expansion with features that would be impossible to fix with easy changes if they turned out to be problematic. In fact I don’t think they think they’ve done anything wrong. I think they’re still going on the assumption that the only thing wrong is unreasonable player expectations, which players will get over if they have no choice for long enough.

Even if they admit to themselves that they’ve made serious misjudgments, I can’t see any way out for them. They could buy time by fixing old content to make it farmable again. But given how they just put a lot of resources into a new system they called “valor” because people have associations with that name and would subscribe because of that program, the program is of little use to anyone and really changes nothing.

Even the pre-patch for SL was better than the actual expac. I enjoyed leveling up new toons, and the pre-patch event was rewarding for the little amount of time you had to invest. By contrast, SL as an actual expac makes me feel punished for not being able to devote myself to the grinds for gear and/or anima.

Honestly this expan is a huge bust and blizz would benefit from cutting loses. This is my least fave expansion of all time. BFA was bad but it still had secrets in the zones to enjoy the atmosphere. I literally never explore the areas anymore as they are boring like the choreghast.

Why would I do normal raiding? Did the mythic plus got my KSM, no upgrades come from mythic plus so I do 4 a week at the hope of getting anything decent from the vault

nah it seems like there will be a patch for every covenant. release/1st raid was venthyr, 9.1 is bastion, 9.2 will probably be maldraxxus or ardenweald

I think both of you are right to an extent but I don’t see them pulling a WoD again. It might actually be the thing that kills the franchise if they did that.

There is legitimacy to the miscalculation of how the player base would take to the Maw. And what that shares mostly with the days of WoD (which is why you see them quickly changing a lot of the internal workings of the Maw in regards to mounts) is that the developers just cannot accept that the modern (older) player base does not have the time to be wasting time on artificial content elongations. We don’t want to not fly, we don’t want to not mount, we don’t have time to be artificially slowed down in any way, for any reason, especially not to push forward an hours-played metric. We have – literally – better and more important things to do.

Therefore, if the Maw was supposed to hold up the xpac for 6-12 months, that is going to have to change. And I think they are changing it.

Now, there are two follow-up questions. One is how the changes now affect what the eventual end to the xpac was originally planned to look like. Longer-term, the second question is will the developers finally learn their lesson and quit messing with WoW’s transportation systems. Every future xpac should allow you to basically go as fast as you want, however you want, from point A to point B. The people clutching to the old ways and saying “but the game was so much better before flying/riding/walking bipedal/etc.” are going to have to adapt, as will developers who sympathize with them.

I have to ask because I find this comment really dumb, what on earth are you referring to when you mean “It makes people miss BFA?”

I’d rather play 7.0 again and deal with the broken mess of balancing that was then play through 8.3 again with all the content and fixes they did. Like what is actually wrong with Shadowlands right now?

Anima is 100% optional. There is nothing you can get with anima that will dramatically improve your ability to play your character, its literally just cosmetics. As for gear, with valor and honor gearing being so prevalent this expac is quite literally the easiest to ever gear up in. You can literally get heroic level ilvl from getting a fairly average arena score or getting keystone hero.

I do
but only in the memetic sense that I just want Blizzard to straight-up rip off Avengers: Endgame’s final battle almost verbatim, and throw us raiders at his Thanos-esque army, which is oddly more Thanos-esque than previous villain armies anyway

They turned N’Zoth into Sauron during that ending cinematic in 8.3, and Peter Jackson didn’t sue, so why not?

Imagine if they turned him into a WORLD BOSS in the Maw for 9.1.5, but with cinematics – same as they did with Nathanos the Blightcaller – and ended the expansion that way!

Those people now have Classic x2, and that should be the end of the anti-flying, anti-portal and anti-movement-speed arguments.

Stop already.

Sigh. “It’s just optional” is the catch-cry of the microtransaction brigade, the fallacy that anything that doesn’t provide direct player power is unimportant. News flash: CRAPLOADS of people play this game for the “just cosmetic” stuff.

Yeah and you can LITERALLY buy a mansion in Malibu just by becoming a movie star and landing a 20 million dollar role! It’s “literally” EASY!

That Oribos portal saves you time, and so does that book giving you legendary powers for offerings

Neat. My point still stands, its still entirely optional and its not like you can’t target the things that matter. If collecting things is what a bunch of people do then by now they should be used to the grind. For christ sake Islands were 100% more grindy and annoying then any of the anima stuff is. Hell dude, this isn’t even the first time they’ve done a secondary currency that was meant to be farmed in extreme amounts for cosmetics. Apexis Crystals sure were fun to grind.

Bruh, its dungeon hero. Its literally +10s. If you’re struggling with +10s, then I don’t think the issue is the game itself.
