Couldn’t find anything useful in that one
Litter knob gave something I’ve never seen before though
Soooo, what is that thing, actually?
Comments directed at no one just made as a statement are much harder to police for Blizzard. Cursing at someone vs just cursing in general for example are handled very differently. That is why so many comments are left alone in trade chat even though they COULD police it much better.
Sure, but please remember this.
I am old, and ATTENTIVE, enough to remember that some years ago a girl, who was doing cosplayjng as a Night Elf, was actually attacked and injured during a Blizzcon by Horde players.
They pulled her hair so hard that she suffered whiplash.
And the consequences, except the injury itself? These:
I know that you will either say that it never happened or, worse, that it was somehow justified by some made-up reason.
Gonna need a source.
You have no idea what I would say because you don’t know me. Why in the world would you make something up and assume it is my stance?
I am not familiar with the incident. I would say neither of those things though. I would say that security should have intervened, protected the cosplayer and ensured she got medical attention, police should have been called (if not there already), and charges should have been pressed with police.
Blizzard security has been very very tight since I started going to Blizzcon in 2014. It gets more thorough every year. Last I went they had a fence, entry scanners, uniformed security and staff everywhere, and undercover security as well.
If you have information on the incident, I would be interested to see it.
Now, what is NOT safe, and never has been, are all those huge drunken parties put on by various third party groups. I never ever went, but know of people who claimed to have their drinks spiked and such. I went back to the hotel and chilled with HGTV and a glass of wine then went to bed. Wrong coast and I was exhausted.
After some digging this is what i found. A post about a post. The quiet cover up of an Alliance player getting assulted at Blizzcon - Page 2 (mmochampioncom )
Youll have to add .'s and stuff
From reading that. Someone claimed in 2011 that a girl in a Nelf T-shirt was walking down the sidewalk in Anaheim (Not at the convention center at Blizzcon) and someone (Horde?) yelled at her and pulled her lanyard.
I am unsure what Blizzard was supposed to do about that, if true. It sounds like something the Police should be handling if someone was assaulted.
I see some people complaining in that thread that the Blizzard Community Managers did not comment on a forum post about it. I would hope they would not - they would have had no info about it and an assault on the streets of Anaheim is a matter for legal and law enforcement.
It seems at the time, the story was very much in doubt and had nothing to back it up. Not shocked Blizz did not comment on a forum post about it.
Nobody should ever be assaulted for any reasons. Hopefully, if true, the girl contacted police.
The point it’s always dangerous to encourage “fictional” conflicts too much. They can bleed into real ones. Think hooligans: of course any sport is lived by fans as “fictional” conflict, but for hooligans, who aren’t so few, it becomes all too real.
You can make that point without claiming something that as far as it appears has no proof it happened.
Yes, I should have specified that, if it happened, it was during Blizzcon, but in the streets of Anaheim, not at the convention center.
I was wrong about the hair, it was the lanyard.
My main point, i.e. the danger in encouraging “fictitious” conflict too much, remains.
I apologise to you, Mirasol, for the tone and some of the content of my previous post, which were unwarranted. Problem is that this subject touches a very sensitive nerve in me, i.e. bullies and how almost always they get away with it.
And in fact, most people prefer to assume that the Night Elf in case lied.
P.S.
To clarify: I am not saying that anybody should be believed just because they said something. People of all ilk DO lie. But assuming that people lie just because they can’t show a legal proof is wrong, either. Proving things without a doubt is terribly hard, as everybody knows.
I typically try to avoid hot button issues like this, since people will often claim that any response or comment that is not aligned with their own beliefs is offensive or backwards, but I do want to make a statement about proof. Since this thread largely deals with inappropriate behavior of a harassing or sexual nature, I’ll frame my statements in that context.
Depending on what sources you prefer, it is largely agreed that between 2 and 8 percent of sexual misconduct accusations are false or unfounded. For the sake of this analysis, we will go with the middle ground number of 5 percent.
Taking that 5 percent number, something like 30 to 40 thousand cases of sexual misconduct (usually assault) are reported each year. That means that roughly 2000 such cases every year arent true. Obviously it goes without saying that sexual misconduct in our society is a big problem, as is victim blaming. Victims 100 percent should be given the benefit of the doubt, and treated appropriately, until their assertions are proven incorrect.
With that said, the reason that most people want proof when it comes to these things is because even with 95% of all of these stories being true, that’s still thousands of people each year who have their lives ruined or irrevocably altered based on a lie.
Now ask yourself whether or not you would still be comfortable not having proof of an accusation for something not sex related, like murder or aggravated assault or robbery, if all available studies indicated that a similar number of people (thousands) were inappropriately accused each year. I think your opinion might change. But dont take my word for these numbers, a simple google search will bring you to articles discussing it.
I agree, totally.
Ah, Raistlin, congrats for your name! What an unforgettable character…
Thanks! This is an old dog vanilla toon. I doubt I’d be able to get the name again on another server lol
Blizzard has and always will be far to lenient on punishments. OW lets me get away with tons that would net me a far harsher punishment.
That’s one of the reasons the community is so bad because they know that there’s gonna be very little in the way of punishments.
I still report them all
I actually just got out a match a few minutes ago where I had to report a couple people for the timeless classic “Kill yourself”
I enjoy getting my “we actioned them” notifications
Just be wary of showing a photo of helping actually helping other people. Very uncool nowadays, and it could be sanctioned.
I guess somebody understands the sarcasm.
I don’t know what source you’re using, but that statistic is garbage. Maybe in terms of internal police departments… as in the police don’t believe the victim, or can’t find enough proof, so that percent are labeled as ‘unfounded.’ But your imaginary statistic is wrong.
From CNN: “ Studies suggest the prevalence of false reporting on sexual assault [is between 2% and 10%]( the link here, but that’s not allowed so I had to remove it), according to the National Sexual Violence Resource Center.
And there’s a big caveat to those numbers: “Research shows that rates of false reporting are frequently inflated, in part because of inconsistent definitions and protocols,” the resource center said.
For example, some law enforcement agencies might label a rape claim as “false” just because there’s not enough corroborating evidence to prosecute.”
So, seriously; everyone needs to stop the victim blaming and the demands for ‘proof’ because the only thing your doing is drowning out the call for help and twisting the narrative away from the important issue.
Which is: blizzard does not do enough to stop or deter harassment in their games. I’m one of many people who have suffered harassment multiple times, in many different forms.
