Why WoW Needs Player Housing

A player housing centered around vanity and not utility can

  1. Allow for desirable rewards not directly tied to character power.

  2. Allow for relevant content not tied to the latest expansion.

  3. Make world exploration rewarding and fun.

  4. Make professions useful and lucrative again.

  5. Create a place for players to display their accomplishments.

Nah, a much better idea would be a guild hall, like class halls but with features that suit for guild purposes.

The game does not “need” player housing. Some players “want” player housing, and may have such a strong affinity for it that the “want” that they feel is a “need.” But the game has done just fine for almost 15 years without it, will probably be okay for however longer it lasts … a strong indication that the game doesn’t “need” player housing.

I was really hoping that Garrisons would be like this - be able to get objects from any source (professions, old and new dungeons / raids, world drops, reputation, crafting and even gathering). Would have been cool to be able to make “sets” like we have for mogs. We could enable the “customize” setting and you’d see those gold-outlined objects where you could place certain things. (Like, floor objects, wall objects, garden objects, etc).

And just like mog or achievement hunting, it would have gotten people out into the world and into old content. It would also give people more to do during “lulls” or when they don’t like the regular progression content.

Yes, good idea.

I imagine getting Troll objects from Troll dungeons and raids for a set. Or tailors being able to make rugs and tapestries. You could fish up large fish (maybe the ones that count toward the achievement) to mount on the wall. Engineers could make fountains, or just weird kinetic doodads. Herbalists could find cool plants to put in the garden. How about getting banners from ANY of the old rep vendors, to hang on the wall? Skinners could provide skin rugs. Leatherworkers could make chairs. I would have a great time with this if done right.

By your logic, a sick person doesn’t need medicine.

Never cared about player housing in any game myself. However I know alot of people really enjoy it when its done well. So there’s really no reason not to have it.

Yes, you get it 100%!

Loved how it was implemented in Runescape but I don’t ever see Blizzard doing it correctly

Game doesn’t need transmogs, achievements or toy collectoins. Shoot, it definitely doesn’t NEED pet battles, but those things have filled a niche for some players. They have also made old content relevant again, which is a smart move - it extends the life of the game.

I would enjoy guild halls as well, but it doesn’t have the creative potential that personal housing might. It’s just a place for your stuff - stuff that you could be convinced to go out and collect.

No, that’s purely YOUR logic. Medicine “can” cure a sick patient (albeit at a premium cost so Pharma CEOs can get their mega-million paycheck). Player housing in a game is not even CLOSE to being THAT level of essential, no matter how strong a player may “want” it. Player “want” =/= game “need.”

Wrong analogy; try again.

Get out of my head! You are taking the words out of my mouth!

You’re not even going to explain why you think that? Just “Nah”?

I think Player Housing is a great idea that has worked in a lot of other successful MMOs, and with all of the different architecture styles and furniture models WoW has I think it would be a blast creating my own house.

Player housing isn’t a bad option ever

On elder scrolls online i pumped all my money turning a house into a rain forest then kept farming more gold to buy more vines

Player housing would be great if they did it right. I want like a WoW version of the sims. That would be fun and addicting. Garrisons were an example of doing it wrong.

Garrisons where basically everything that they wanted to avoid with player housing, So i do think they should be at the very least looking at other MMOs that did it right.
Its sort of ironic to me that out of every MMO i would play right now, the market leader is the only one that did it wrong and needs a second go.

O yes, player housing can be a giant gold sink. Much better than one very expensive mount per expansion.

We already have housing,

I hope you aren’t talking about Garrisons. Garrisons focused on utility … it brought the world to you… mining, herbing, enchanting, AH etc.

The point of player housing is to send you out into the world so you can find and achieve cool things to put on display.

If they did ever try housing again. Since garrisons didn’t hit the mark.

Don’t tie it to one particular expansion so it’s always relevant and useful.

Don’t tie it to WQ or mission tables.

Make it a fun side thing like, pet battles.

Do include tracks to upgrade for QOL things like portals, crafting stations, banks.

Do link personal spaces with a guild hall.

I don’t need to explain… last time people asked for player housing we got… drum roll…garissons.

Class hall was an improvement and I think it could go farther with being a guild hall
