I figured as much. Anyone who has been through the Rising Sands for post AAR MSQ know to skip non voice acted cutscenes.
From what I’ve seen, FFXIV’s lore is just Star Wars.
Yeah! Kinda, till Shadowbringers at least. Shadowbringers was a good story. I haven’t read too much about Endwalker because I don’t want to Ruin IV the story line for myself.
Interesting, can I not join a covenant and play the game at 60 and still get group invites? Can I play as an undead paladin. Can I log in on an orc and raid with the alliance guilds? Can I be in two covenants at once and use both abilities? Can I log in on my hunter and switch a spec and raid tank? What, no? Weird all that sounds like forced narrative
There is a difference between ‘lore’ and ‘story.’ WoW has years of built up lore going back to the strategy games, FF has a long running story since 2010, there is a difference. FF14 doesn’t really have lore, it has a story. I mean I guess you could say it has built up some lore since it’s release but the difference being that if FF14 ends one day and Square does a new game, it will most likely be with a new story, not with existing lore.
With that, WoW does indeed have the better ‘lore,’ but it most definitely doesn’t have the better story. Story telling in WoW is trash and the fact that major elements of it aren’t even in the game only cements that opinion as hard truth. If you aren’t capable of telling your story in it’s entirety within the medium in which it is based, you have a serious problem on your hands.
That doesn’t make the lore better. That doesn’t make the lore anything. As for your question of how i find time to engage with the lore despite everything; I find it harder and harder to do so. Not because life is getting any busier for me or anything but because so much of the lore is either in book “A” or book “B” or “C” or “D” or etc… that having to read everything just to know everything is become way too damn expensive for me.
More doesn’t equal better and the story contributes to the overall lore. OP is claiming you don’t have to participate in a forced narrative in WoW like you do in FF14. That being said the current story and lore is a mess in WoW
There is no overall lore in FF, each game is a separate entity, they just pull names, places, and assets from each other. FF14’s “lore,” if you want to call it that, is 100% it’s own, WoW’s isn’t.
this! And so much more. Not interested in couch coop.
1/10 fail.
The Warcraft lore/story will never be respectfully comparable in terms of quality with anything created by the Final Fantasy writing team.
Warcraft lore has never been amazing in any way.
Ive played through stormblood found its trash and not for me.
Square does a crappy job with unfinished stories.
Phone typos suck, but Im sure you dont actually care.
It’s comparable.
So, it’s not better, but you like the fact that you can completely ignore the story of a game, and still play the game. That’s preference, but definitely does not make it better. FFXIV’s story may be a slog to get thru sometimes, but at least it a cohesive story that makes sense and translates to the entire MMO.
fixed to *respectfully comparable.
You can’t truly play WoW without engaging with the quests and storyline. If you’re scraping the bottom of the barrel this hard to keep waving the I Hate FF Flag, maybe just hang it up and play WoW instead?
No it is better because of the relationship of the object to the subject - the lore to the player.
FFXIV’s story is simultaneously its biggest strength and its biggest weakness.
On the one hand, the quality is much better than WoW’s pound for pound.
On the other hand, I haven’t leveled up in 3 days despite playing for several hours a day because the next level tier is gated behind what is essentially watching a 3 hour movie that keeps pausing every 3 minutes.
Because as a player I have to chose one or the other right, I can’t enjoy the lore from both games. SMH…
Was the unfinished story a jab strictly at SE or 14 in general? If it was 14, I’m curious to which story you felt was unfinished.
Yeah.
WoW lore is good Adventurer Hero Champion Saviour Commander of Azeroth.
