Why wow lore is better than FF14

This is very true. Calling it pornographic is really extreme. I can understand why he wouldn’t want to expose his daughter to it at least, but not why he would have a crusade against the game, especially when WoW has the same kind of gear readily used…

I dunno about you, but I play this game for flying and raiding, I really don’t care what’s going on as long as the raids are good with an easy loot lever, lore be damned! lol

I was really into WoW lore around WotLK. So many mysteries. At this point, not as exciting imo. But I do still like the presentation better than FFXIV’s. Cartoony, ridiculous, fun…even if the story isn’t so great.

That is your choice. Likewise when they eventually grow up and are living their own lives, it will be their choice.

You still haven’t commented on the actual topic however. Do you have any response as to why you think WoW’s lore is actually better? Your argument that FFXIV’s story is worse because it can’t be skipped doesn’t make logical sense.

No it’s. It is. Even Stanford has defined the Overton window and it is not extreme to define it that way at all!

What you’re saying is actually extreme and skewed.

That’s not really “why WoW lore is better” so much as “you can just ignore it”, which is fairly different.

For instance, you probably wouldn’t answer “Is chocolate or vanilla better?” with “Chocolate, because I can ignore it”.

I mean, to a degree I’m pretty sure you can do the same with FF14. The MSQs are even marked so if you want to avoid them that’s easy enough.

If you don’t want to spend any money…Just do the side quest-hub quests, random dungeons, FATEs, Guildhests, Levemetes, hunter log, and gathering log.

If you don’t mind spending some cash, you can also buy an option in the shop to skip portions of the MSQ.

Why? WoW’s success can be directly tied to engaging story. The absolute pinnacle of WoW subscriptions? Wrath of the Lich King, which had a coherent storyline that ran through the entire expansion. People loved Northrend and Arthas.

The next big spike? Legion. The end of Legion was a bit of a wtf as far as lore was concerned, but it followed the same principle as WotLK with an over-arching story that was coherent. People loved class halls, and they loved the mage tower.

I get if lore and story aren’t your thing, but it is a lot of peoples’ thing.

This is an rpg. One of the pinnacles of the genre is the story. Withou a good story you don’t have any reasons to care about the world and then interact with it.

No it’s not.

Yeah, it is not. It used to be but is not anymore.

Maybe it isn’t as bad as FFXIV, but WoW not requiring you to concern yourself with the lore isn’t as true as it used to be; in WoD I resubbed after skipping MoP entirely (I didn’t h8 pandas, I was just busy irl) and kinda just did what I thought was fun (at the time, random battlegrounds) and before I knew it I was max level and had access to most of the same stuff as everyone else and could totally do it if I felt like it. In Legion it started to feel like the story quests were becoming mandatory-ish, and now in SL they’re basically super mandatory

If you aren’t motivated to do things, why bother doing them? Not everyone is gear driven; for example, I finished Heavensward over the weekend. And I actively wanted to kill the person responsible for all of the issues that I had to deal with previously.

In WoW, I don’t honestly care. Sylvanas is a poorly written character and her death/defeat won’t bring me any joy because the story barely supports it or makes it seem imperative that it must happen.

I’m at the stage where I want the Jailer to win, which is a pretty big failure in the narrative.

Okay, not what I was expecting, but I do concur. I’ve been mostly out of caring for WoW lore for years, yet I’m still playing. Certain elements still interest me, but there’s a whole lot that doesn’t.

From what I’ve seen in FF14 it’s much more of a solo narrative as you gain levels. That was fine when it was a single player game, and since it was fresh to me I wasn’t totally against it.

But yeah, if you don’t want to care about the story this is the game for you. Or at least it is for me. And I’m not saying I’m Neo in the matrix and this is all just ones and zeros, I kinda just stopped caring too much about most of the major characters and events.

To be fair, I got about halfway through 14 and barely remember anything of that story. It was tedious. I don’t see how I could possibly roll an alt like that, doing it all again, good thing the game is set up so you don’t really need to.

Have you played FF14? you know you can skip every cutscene. you’ll just be as lost as in wow…

‘let me know how you find time to engage with Lore, raid, pvp and hold a full time job.’

40 hours really isn’t a long time in a week. Even more so if you made good choices in life and own your own. Little jabs instead of thought out counterpoints is why you should stay playing wow.
