Only time will tell. Again, if WoW is to end soonish then I an hoping we end it with Azeroth actually being in a better place. A place were we dont need the worgen curses or death knights or demon hunter having to continue to exist.
I truly doubt WoW will end anytime soon. I actually think overall WoW is in a great place.
But…the story, dude. It’s just…it’s just dead.

Even metzen has said he wants to end the story before we need “grand kids to move our keyboards” or something like that. Look, WoW is guranteed to last at least for the next 6 years. I assume after the World Soul Saga we might end up in the final phase of Warcraft’s story(assuming Blizzard’s new survival MMO takes off)
All that means is that WoW won’t keep going when Chris is a doddering old man. He’s not that old yet, dude. We have a lot of time XD

He is 50. So he will be 56 by the end of the world soul saga. Even assuming the final arch of WoW is say 5 more expansions after WSS(one expansion for each element) he would theoretically be 60+ by the time Warcraft as a series ends.
Dude, I know we’re both probably a lot younger than 60.
But 60 is not too old to make a video game.
Like, come on.

That doesnt mean he will still want to keep making it. People will still want to retire. In fact he didnt seem to give a concrete “I will stay after WSS” answer thus far.

This was metzen’s quote and not mine. So even he knows WoW’s original playerbase is getting old.
This feels so ironic to me because they likewise ignored a lot of other aspects of Gilnean lore to focus ON the Werewolf stuff in Cata. And realistically neither needed to be abandoned for the addition of the worgen curse, it should just add another facet to a civilization that had an incredibly strong terrestrial military force, and likely the second strongest navy given Kul Tiras derived from them.

I think he was specifically talking about the Worldsoul Saga, not Warcraft or WoW as a whole.
At the end of the day, Metzen isn’t the final say in when Warcraft ends, so I cannot imagine he was talking like he is.

Well looks like WoW might last longer(or end sooner) then I thought. Now Blizzard doesnt have any new games in the pipeline. Now the question is how long WoW will remain profitable.
Part of this was because it was the only story content of the half patch. Having a half patch, where the only new story content was only available to alliance players would have been bad optics. Was pretty much ment hard players were going to have to be able to play through it. And the quest line had to treat them as protagonists.

Voljin dying after one exp as war chief, was not my favorite. Having a troll named warchief and that confrontation at the end of mop was hype AF, for lots of reason. However, killing him early does allow for the tragic “what if” which is compelling story telling. While i would a agree half-ish baked, i wouldnt say unfinished. If you havent done voljims burial quest line (in the burial of kings area) go do it. Not perfect, but cool to see him honored.
She already blew him off when he wasn’t all moody and grizzled.
What are the odds that all three (slightly) possible love interests for Anduin are dark haired warrior/rogue women with unresolved issues regarding their fathers…
Actually I guess there’s one redhead noblewoman who isn’t a fighter at all. But also has unresolved issues with her (evil and dead) father. Yeesh.
