Apparently, Threads of Fate was deliberately removed from the game entirely two weeks back. At this current time, on any alt you bring into SL, you’re now forced to do the entire Campaign from start to finish to THEN get into Shadowlands content.
It doesn’t make sense and no reason for the decision has been given. This is stupid and unwarranted. There was nothing wrong in skipping the campaign to get right into things.
It’s been pretty inconsistent since SL ended. I’ve heard that some people got grandfathered in and can still pick it as an option on a new character, and some can’t. Haven’t tried, myself.
Threads of Fate was indeed removed, deliberately, however, at some point between it’s removal and Patch 11.0.5, it was there, at least for characters that had never been to Shadowlands, max level for me.
I decided to take some alts 2 days and the day before 11.0.5 dropped, to collect some mogs and keep them in my bags, ready for the new mogging rules.
As soon a s 11.0.5 dropped, it was no longer an option and people now get stuck if they accept the first skip in the factions capital (the one that skips the maw and ports you right to Oribos).
Yes, this was how it was, I had a couple of characters I went ahead and accepted ToF on, before it’s removal.
I recently took a character created in Remix to Shadowlands for some reason. I skipped the Maw and was met with the “Threads of Fate” guest giver upon arriving in Oribos. He wouldn’t talk or offer me a quest. I had to log out and log back in to get rid of him and start the expansion. By that time I was just annoyed, so I hearthed out and logged off.
Really annoying getting started and going through all the NPC roleplay just to go to one location in Shadowlands. They should have just left Threads of Fate in. If you’re there on Chromie Time, then you can’t use it… Otherwise, let us choose.
About a year ago, I resurrected an old deleted character who was around level 40 (I think), and I wanted to level her in Shadowlands because she was deleted long before SL started. The first thing I noticed was that Threads of Fate was gone, and the only choice was to start as a Kirin (which I can’t stand).. I asked in the Customer Service forum WHY it was that Threads of Fate is gone, and I never did received a valid answer.
It was removed much earlier, about the time DF was released and Shadowlands became part of Chromie Time. It had something to do with new people leveling but they should have kept it for anyone who had been through the Shadowlands story once.
More recently lots of old expansions seemed to have been broken by one of the Anniversary events but that’s a separate matter.
Maybe now that we have warbands it will be reenstated for anyone who has done the story but we can’t be sure of that.
A few days I took a character who hadn’t touched shadowlands at all completely through the Maw intro, and when I reached Oribos, was completely stuck with no way to progress.
Hopefully this will be rectified as stated in the article.
When SL was current, there were two options to level from 50 to 60 once a character on an account had completed the SL level-up campaign.
One was to play through the level-up campaign again, the other was to choose ‘Threads of Fate’ and level up by doing various activities across the zones (such as WQ, bonus areas, kiling rares) by filling a bar for each zone.
When DF launched and SL moved into Chromie Time, they removed the option to level up by completing activities to fill the bar in each SL zone - the reasoning being with Chromie Time, players could now level up to DF content through any of the expansion zones.
What has been an issue ever since they removed the level-up option is the option to skip the level-up campaign and start the previous max-level stuff like covenant campaigns, raids, Kothia, ZM, etc.
Sometimes any character above 60 was able to trigger the skip, other times only characters at level 60 would trigger the skip, and right now nothing triggers the skip OR the option to continue.
Blizzard needs to put a generic skip in Oribos accessible in any phase that lets any character skip the leveling campaign and gain access to a covenant, the maw, zones like ZM, and all the raids.
But they probably won’t do that and will fix whatever was broken in the last patch preventing any new character from progressing and will just brush off players with the ‘Threads of Fate was removed intentionally’ crap they have posted on the service pages whenever someone submits a ticket about not being offered the ability to skip.
