Why the Maw is a Failure as a Zone

To be fair, the message you get when you try to mount is “your mount ignores your call” or something similar.

Running wild, ghost wolf and travel form aren’t mounts that are called.

Ok what about my chopper, meat wagon, mecha cat/strider, dreadwake, love rocket, or sky golem.

Or what about the ones I shapeshift into like Sandstone Drake or Obsidian Nightwing?

Its a total arbitrary bs system that only favors a few and its clear as day.

I don’t even use travel form. I prowl everywhere because to hell with getting aggro and dazed.

Dante’s Inferno was a really cool cinematic game in hell. It’s few years old so it probably wouldn’t wow anyone these days.

I rather like The Maw. It is a very relaxing place. 4.5/5, would visit again.

I agree that they need to fix the phasing issue. I disagree with everything else. I like the fact that the zone is oppressive. It reminds me of old MMO design principles. Timeless Isle was good but don’t want a copy of it every xpac.

Honestly, it’s a lazily predictable zone that is a melting pot of various previous systems on the go to give you something to do for 30 minutes before the timegate hits.

It was previously even worse in beta with literally nothing.

So you gotta wonder if they try to come up with something fun and engaging or just play it safe and go ‘‘we’ll use systems from mechagon, naz’jatar… aaaaaand… 8.3… and let’s also gate that to ven’ari’s trust to unlock the rest of the zone… snicker snicker jokes on them, it’ll have the same things but even worse phasing issues and elites’’

they most likely didn’t think it was a good idea. i mean, you even said it. it was designed to be horrible.

the maw is like when someone makes a terrible game, on purpose, as a joke. except here, this is supposed to be a professional product - one we demand quality and fun from. and yet, they still designed it to be a miserable and anti-fun zone. and sold it. it’s pretty disgusting conduct from someone that makes games and it’s maddening that devs like this can sit on such a cushy job and get all this pay and all these benefits that most don’t get…to make pure trash. ON PURPOSE.

they absolutely do not deserve to be rewarded.

I completely disagree. I think the maw will go down as one of the greatest zones ever made by Blizzard.

That being said the phasing issues are real and in my opinion phasing should be removed entirely. I don’t care about your damn story. If you have to phase me to tell a story then it isn’t worth it. I’ll buy the book or wait for the movie. When the world changes after a cutscene I go “woah that’s cool” and then forget about it. But the phase lasts literally forever.

This many times over. I think I am pretty much done with the maw after going there today to rescue Uther (sigh). I understand they want the game to be challenging but things can be challenging and still fun. I don’t think they get that last part.

The maw is a gold mine for world pvp and thats why i love it. Other than that;

Jump in> 10 souls a few yards away from safe zone > port out.

Between the complaints about the Maw and the complaints about Torghast it is becoming clear to me that WoW players hate anything that isn’t a complete faceroll.

It’s lazy, garbage design inappropriate for a game that isn’t free to play and released in the 21st century.

I personally don’t appreciate lazy, garbage design… but to each his own.

Don’t quote me here but I think that the maw is supposed to be literally hell LOL. Of course it’s unpleasant. From a role-playing aspect it’s probably one of the better zones in the game right after revendreth.
As far as strategic gameplay is concerned well this entire expansion sucks. When every single thing in the game has a slow effect or can root you in place while it casts a area effect death circle underneath you we’ve gone from challenging and fun to cheesy corny and dumpster fire garbage

I don’t think it’s lazy garbage design. I have fun there. I like the feel there. I don’t want to stay long there. I usually leave after 3 or 4 jailer anger.
