Why the long wait for flying?

You assume that flying or no flying is the sole issue in the game. I assure you it is not

Sure, and pathfinder should be available at launch. I have already done the thing and run up and down those stairs so many times. It’s tiresome.

I’m not talking about that. I’m talking about things like gathering professions and maybe, in a small way, PvP.

Oh please the playerbase has been largely stagnant or declining since the release of wrath. You can not pin that solely on flying.

That only effect people that play with warmode on and even then, it lets people ‘pause’ the game. That way if you need to step out for a moment you don’t get ganked.

Flying increases how fast you consume content and how much effort you have to put into completing it

Well, no not really. I don’t have to use FPs anymore and I can scout out most spots if I need to land. Sure, the other side will get lucky and jump me sometimes, but it really probably does take a lot of the pressure off. Also, I did say it was more lucrative to be in WM since it comes with a buff.

Sure, and after you’ve done so, like completing pathfinder, it no longer effects that. Otherwise they are just stringing things out.

No it just effects content that comes after that. It also greatly increases gathering rates, which effects the economy.

More people also participate in the economy.

Thus magnifying the impact on the economy. Yeah.

I don’t see your point.

It crashes the market, making it not an effective way to make gold

Sorry, some people making lots of gold by discouraging participation is not a good trade off.

It’s not about making lots of gold, it’s about making any gold what so ever. My income per hour in legion via farming plummeted so low I just stopped doing it all together.

Sounds like they need to change how we get things, maybe add in a token system… wait.

It is the single biggest reason the player base dropped 5.5 million and has never recovered.

You’re right as well. Every change they have made to this game since WoD has removed player options and butchered classes. Legion objectively was not that great. But it was a marked improvement over WoD.

Where Legion went wrong was in adding layered RNG, more time gates, 2 part PF, level scaling and ilevel scaling; removing/curtailing loot options (mostly for raiders not LFR) and failing to award any progression to your characters.

The petulance over flight (they now have invested much more development time, resources and costs in establishing ways to delay flight and provide “alternatives” despite having to unlock flight anyway) is a pound of salt in an ever growing, ever gaping wound.

I believe if they unlocked flight today… players who have recently left and who are about out the door, wouldn’t return?

If nothing else, it would be a show of good faith.

Not to mention, boost sales of the flying fox mount…

look, like many people I still have fun doing the things, I just don’t have fun doing the stairs. I’m sorry you have a problem with a thing, but i have finite time. I don’t want to spend it running around grinding mobs just to reach the thing I want to do. Even then, I deserve to participate in gathering for money, professions, or because I just want to fill my bank. You shouldn’t want to prevent me from enjoying all aspects of the game.

What s your source? And don’t just say that 5.5 million quit during warlords. That could be due to any number of reasons including…

  1. tired of orcs
  2. lack of content
  3. real life
  4. further pruning and homogenization.
All 4 of which were a reason I quit.

There’s an old saying: “You don’t need a weatherman to tell you it’s raining.” I was there, witnessed/participated myself.

But here are the facts:

5/22/2015
Blizzard announces no flight ever again.

6/10/2015
Blizzard changes mind - will return flight

During that 19 day interval, servers emptied, guilds folded, long-time veteran players left the game in droves. For the first time, Blizzard employees solicited, online, cancellation reasons from departing players. These forums were flooded with over 150,000 posts, hundreds of threads in protest.

That’s 19 days where nothing else happened.
