Why the lack of Customization?

I’m trying to say that yes, you can ask for customization that would infringe on the Nightborne’s visual identity, but don’t use bogus examples for why it should be added and then claim that I’m wrong when I disprove the claim.

Sure, they’re pink and a different design. A far cry from the glowing face tattoos you were calling for using Azshara as an example.

Ultimately I think Higborne fantasy is a MUST for night elves.

Night elf mages in cataclysm were one of the biggest cultural shifts in the game and only happened because the one friendly Highborne group that still existed rejoined. It was a big deal, even having its special RP added in the prepatch and some nelf mages NPCs having special participation through questing.

The only other two cultural shifts like that were Tauren Paladins and Dwarf Shamans. Dwarves got more customization to reflect Wildhammer and this change. While Tauren didn’t get this shift from any other group so they have all the customization from the get go.

So night elves should have highborne stuff because it represents a combo that’s actually a big deal in the game.

Personally speaking, them not adding stuff preemptively vs. being reactive just drains me. 10ish years we’ve waited for new things and it took the lawsuit for them to unload their creativity? Not a good look.

Just seems like you’re trying to say no we can’t request things to represent the Shen’dralar…

Exactly. It’s not wrong to want something to represent that.

So much this…

The issue is that what they think matters is not what most people think matters.

Ion is a raid designer, and honestly, he’s good at it, but that’s it. He directs the game with that in mind, everything they have done is to get players into raids, so they see their work.

But of course, raiders, specially hardcore, are the minority of the community, by their own admission.

Most people want visual goods because, I mean it’s cool to have and play with those. That’s why other games get money purely by selling skins. They should know this, they had HotS and OW after all.

They also just create grinds to tie in to power so somehow the road to raiding has more grandeur. But there’s little else that’s meaningful as a casual player. “Oh do this gigantic grind so you can have one of these 6 recolour of mounts” is not it.

What’s with horde players obsessed with “visual identity”? Lol.

It’s like draenei telling other races shouldn’t have light stuff or jewelry. It’s just…dumb. Your race will keep looking like the race does and being different having its own traits and way stuff just looks.

No one is asking for nelves to have the exact stuff nightborne have.

You never saw nelves attack nightborne for getting a lot of stuff from them.

These are all great options and I really hope blizz is listening to their player base on this thread.

And if they are and haven’t seen me talk about troll beards then that’s their loose cause troll beards for the win.

The Shen’dralar don’t even have a specific aesthetic that could be attributed to them. They look identical to Night Elves. In the times leading up to their admittance into Kaldorei society, they weren’t regal, but a group of lowly, beaten down elves at the end of their rope.

So yes.

You are doing exactly what I said.

To add to this point I made

Currently there’s a big controversy on WoW Twitter because more WoW devs are saying stuff like “if you never designed a game you can’t criticize WoW”. Which is a pretty …dumb and not really nice thing to say.

A lot of players feel slighted and rightly so. At the end of the day I don’t know how to cook lots of stuff but I can tell you if food tastes good. They don’t seem to get that and just like being on a high horse.

Hence why if any devs are reading this thread, they understand. Communication and taking feedback is important. There’s a lot more players than devs and that is a wealth of creativity you can just take, we give ideas for free, and players pay for the game on top. Don’t reject it just because we are filthy philistines in your eyes.

Night Elf players use the Shen’dralar as the basis for having “regal” customization options when the Shen’dralar no longer even exemplify the fantasy of regal Highborne. The 10,000 years of suffering following the War of the Ancients beat all the vanity out of them.

I don’t know what you had posted the other day but it does seem like she has some light markings.

Since you’re up grabbing screenshots, take a gander at the Highborne about to be swallowed up by the waves. A bunch of plain faced elves if I’ve ever seen them. :sunglasses:

Quick, someone rehire Sylva…eh…

Actually, nevermind

I was just trying to see if she actually had markings or not as I have not noticed them before.

You can assume my intentions there all you want.

I have never requested markings based on Azshara as I didn’t know she had any.

And you say that because…?

Because they didn’t have unique models in Vanilla? like how dark iron were just normal dwarves but grey? or wildhammer just having some paint on?

Heck high elves being just repainted night elves.

You can’t expect much of the stuff shown in vanilla to have a lot of variation.

However they still had nobility and a more regal way of speaking in their quest. And the prince looked as regal as they could back then

https://wowpedia.fandom.com/wiki/Prince_Tortheldrin

I mean after all back then Anduin used the basic human-child model, despite being crown prince of Stormwind.

I’m not sure the entire discussion but I think it’s fair game for Horde players to be protective of NBs Highborne main theme. Blood Elves are being curb stomped at every corner no matter which visual theme addition is given for a request, we have Lightforged Dranei fans who take issue with Blood Elves light aspect despite the fact BEs have had the golden eyes since ? Wasn’t it WOD? And the Sunwell restored in BC.

People take issue with both RP tool additions like VEs got, and or additions that could tie into pre existing routes already vaguely touched on like the light. So from that perspective I 100% feel defensive and protective of NB and that entails their theme.

Azshara does have markings, they’re just very close to the eyes. They’re like a smaller ‘bear’ marking that the ladies sport currently.

Highborne esthetic is essentially silver/gold filigree it seems though. Which isn’t a stretch of a request for jewelry immersion options due to how basic they are in general fantasy.

Also for nelves please for the love that is all, give us the actual grape purplish skin already, they have it everywhere else but WoW!

Yeah, that and white “shades” of hair, Nelves already have white hair, but maybe some pink-white and blueish white would add to it.

“Regal” hairstyles.

Blueish skin tones. More like Azshara’s than what Nightborne have.

Also golden markings.

And Makeup.

I think that’d cover it.

It depends on the stuff asked for tbqh… as someone who had her favorite race robbed of it´s visual uniqueness to the point the AR ended up with objectively more unique and better customizations, I can understand Ellinia´s point too.

Can the Nelf fans ask for unique Highborne stuff? Absolutely, after all Aszhara is THE poster child for Highborne stuff and she uses a Nelf model. But if their “creativity” dies in “gimme the same NB tattoos but in blue, purple and green and let them use white and purple only”, then I think those petitions and the proponents can bugger off tbqh.

The Helfer stuff delivered to the Velves should be the cautionary tale every poster in here should think about when they ask for “the same assets as X race”… cause at the end, even the very Velf players ended up feeling robbed of their customization pass and treated as second rate players precisely thanks to the low bar some of them gave to the devs in their loudest petitions to clone a Belf.

Fairness of treatment as customers. If you complained over one Horde rae maybe getting the assets of another (the Dark Rangers fiasco), I can just imagine the saltiness you would feel if the devs decided to randomly implement Derek / Calia esque models for the Forsaken so they can literally play with an almost intact Human model but better.

Those are pink and honestly, look closer to make up than any kind of tattoo -aren´t bright and too close to the eyeballs to be safe to be some kind of “tattoo”-.

Stuff similar to that is perfectly fine to ask for… heck, the “night warrior” tattoos ARE perfectly fine to ask for. But a literal copy paste of the NB runic marks is frankly nothing but the usual “gimme gimme” rude BS of always.

The jewerly too Is fine to ask for, but then the players asking for it should submit examples of what they ask for, not pretend to get copy/pastes of NB art but just in other colors.

What “lots of stuff”, a crooked nose and maybe one skin color? Those “huge” amounts of assets?

/rofl
