It’s Zug. Swapping to ye ol’ Shen’dralar in support, and to give a touch more blue for a bit to the thread. (That, and to talk to myself again. Old jokes die hard.)
Azshara is a good thing to start on.
I’ve mentioned it before, but we actually don’t need much outside the Highborne having a proper presence - Mordent’s cameo in Darkshore was nice, but… we need a bit more than that.
I mentioned elsewhere that all we really need for the request to be aesthetically viable is the arcane tattoos, which could, to keep the base race aesthetically intact until later, be an unlock through a quest chain involving Mordent, potentially revolving around his thoughts on the Nightborne going Horde. A double bonus would be this takes place in the new Night Elf capital whenver that could possible happy, when him assisting in building up wherever it is they go with the rest of his Highborne.
Jewelery is another option that was heavily brought up when it comes to the concept.
Highborne Nelfs should not look exactly like Nightborne, Nightborne, aesthetically are “made” of magic, and are very french, whereas the original Highborne had a more Roman vibe to them. Giving them minor traits of arcane sparkle is absolutely plenty on the usual Nelf model,. while Nightborne go absolutely OTT with it.
It’s like how the Alliance High Elf subrace should be just very basic, but the Blood Elves and actual Void Elves should branch off into harder traits for their aesthetic, unless they want to just be a “regular” high elf.
I swear, they forgot about Mordent’s story.
I’d really like to know what he was thinking during all that, because I’d honestly have my poopyhole clenched the whole time I’m working alongside the person who was murdering my students and wanted me next.
With any luck, they’ll consider a neutral option. It would get rid of a lot of fighting. Not entirely but it would be really nice for those of us who really hate the faction barrier, faction war, and want neutral guilds.
Only reason I’m so “this should be this faction” is because I feel like despite the idea being popular, you know they’ll never add the option to be neutral. We’ll still need to deal with the nonsense of the faction barrier even though it makes no sense in the story.
It’s also funny Maiev and Malfurion leading that together (well mostly maiev, Malf talks about like renewal and weird stuff) while Maiev tried to and almost succeeded at killing him. I figure Maiev had to do a lot of apologies to a lot of people.
I would absolutely kill for a “flashback” cinematic where everybody’s just awkward as she’s like “ahh, yeah about that…” then turns to the camera, winks, but we can’t see it because of the helmet, and she truly was sorry.
The Night Elves can have a bit of comedy as a treat.
I’m not 100% for neutral stuff because usually when I want to play Horde I play Horde and when I want to play Alliance I play Alliance, it’s also a big part of why I see so many people take issues with Blood Elves and Void Elves because they basically took our race and made it neutral but they didn’t do the same with a race from Alliance on Horde and anyone that says Nightborne are equal are deluded.
I didn’t call it race theft, I said they took our race and made it neutral and I’m allowed to think that whether you or others agree or not so drink away dearie, I don’t care.
Anyways,
Nightborne are Night Elves, and the Highborne Night Elves that were requested by the Alliance for over a decade, especially ramping up so the introduction of Mages in Cataclysm.
Night Elves, while they are upset about it, don’t go on entire campaigns and continually non-stop cry about their “race” being stolen, and also given a custom model. Instead, the few people remaining for the cause just ask for arcane tattoos and some lore presence instead of derailing every possible conversation, and thread, crying about it for literally hours per day.
Now, about that fix for the male night elf faces too, the ones that have been aesthetically janky since Vanilla, and “bugged” since WoD.
That’s fair, though one end where I’m in disagreement (respectfully of course!). I just really hate the faction barrier and plot myself and just wish I had the option for my characters. It’s why while I wish FFXIV had more races, I greatly favor that game and how they do that.
Nightborne are botched Night Elves without horrible customizations, horrible model and barely no one wants to play them, get real and if you want to talk about class equality we can’t be Demon Hunters or Druids so sorry but not flying with me.
Wow is built on the faction barrier and I for one hope it stays that way, I don’t dislike people who feel differently in that regard but I never want to have to play with Alliance people unless I’m actually playing on my Alliance characters and vice versa with Horde.
It’s a bit early to be talking about additional Night Elf customization as a whole, but, you know what, we’re here, and if it’s similar / the same tech for both models…

While this was originally a highborne jewelery request for Night Elf females, the way the eyes are reminds me of how they fixed the Nightborne female eyes.
It’d be nice to see the same options on Night Elf females.
Honestly, any changes like that should always go to the parent race, so long as it aesthetically suits the parent or subraces.
Theoretical future examples being starcursed glitter on Void elves being turned to Gold for Blood Elves, or hoof shapes for Tauren being shared between HMT and regular.
Can somebody tell them that “dorito” isn’t the ideal body shape?
