Why the hate for Nathanos?

I mean, you just described the Horde in a nutshell.

he IS the Mary Sue.

He doesn’t even qualify as a Gary Stu

Nathanos is the writers’ idea of what men should be like with women. Simps.

Anduin is the writers’ idea of what men should be like without women. Confused.

He is an epic level simp.

So what I hear you saying is its possible that one quest in the future, we could be forced to shove a red pill down his throat and show him reality?

Mary Sues are often perfect characters with no flaws. Nathanos, on the other hand, has plenty of flaws to his character. Even in the Siege of Undercity, he hesitated when given an order. Yes, his good parts are few and fair between, but that is more or less Blizzard’s problem for not knowing how to proper write characters.

Darkshore would disagree with you that he is NOT a Mary Sue

Nothing else can cover up for that

“SPIDERS! You had me killing spiders, Ranger Nate! They don’t even have blood! You know they don’t have blood! It is physically impossible for me to leave a blood trail when fighting things without blood! What the hell is wrong with you!?”

I sincerely hope Sylvanas is the one who kills him - it’ll be the only way it’ll hurt enough.

And again, that’s also Blizzard’s problem for using the entirey of Sylvanas’ story as a plot device for Shadowlands. And even in Darkshore, he didn’t defeat Tyrande. He merely escaped, meaning he fleed from battle. A Mary Sue would have killed Tyrande. Nathanos didn’t. Nathanos just survived and escaped. And on top of that, he even lost a Val’kyr. He lost more than he gained in that engagement.

Surviving against 2 god tier characters, saying “Enough” and running away on his own terms and never in danger qualifies as a Mary Sue.

Its like a level 1 with starter gear telling a heroic raid boss “Enough” and not going splat

Or more like a level 50 character running away from a level 55 character. Nathanos isn’t a random mob, he is the Champion of the Banshee Queen for a reason and a ranger, even though he was human which should say a lot about his skills, of Quel’thalas and was -really- good at his job.

There’s a middle ground between characters worshiping players, and refusing to acknowledge our accomplishments.

Also, there’s no reason for him to be condescending outside of arrogance. He hasn’t done anything notable. He’s no Saurfang, or Rexxar.

He was some random with a bow as good as a regular elf. Big deal.

Vs the most powerful mortal on Azeroth (Malfurion) and a 10,000 year old warrior powered up by her goddess?

Not even close.

Look. I don’t want to argue and it seems like you do. You asked why people hate him. This is it for me. I am mainly Horde (except this expansion). Sylvanas drove me away as a customer and Nathanos was a part of that.

People dislike Nathanos because he’s a super edgy self-insert Original Character, Do Not Steal type of character who offers nothing but contemptuous one-liners and an absurd ability to defeat characters he has no business so much as polishing the shoes of.

i like how Nathanos is a huge jerk, it’s different from most of the characters in the game

i hate how he just has perpetual plot armor

No idea what SL will have in store.

I’m wondering if some of these NPCs will, like us, end up in a covenant themselves.

Wouldn’t that be awful, all these players flocking to the vampire covenant, and then a year down the road, all that investment, the story develops and find out you’re in the same covenant as Nathanos.

I mean, Sylvanas could cut him loose anytime, and he’d have to go somewhere.

Or, even worse, the writers could simply make an entire covenant be just for “loyalists” yuck.

It would be like the ultimate troll from Blizz.

He won’t share his outfit, that’s reason enough to hate him.

Not some random dude with a bow. Second to Sylvanas, one of the greatest rangers of Quel’thalas. Even Kael’thas wanted Nathanos to be fired because he made other elves look bad. So, not some random dude.

Malfurion lost to the Shade of Xavius, which was 1% of Xavius’ total power, and Tyrande is killable in the End Time dungeon. So did they somehow gain 10000000x more power in the span of five seconds? Because everything so far as shown Elune to not be as powerful as people say she is. If anything, he has the same amount of power as a Loa.

All I hear is you going, “Yes Nathanos my Champion!”

You are what you hate…

Xavius beat Malfurion because Xavius specifically undermined Malfurion’s power by corrupting the Emerald Dream, the source of Malfurion’s strength. Saying Malfurion is a chump because he got beaten by the one guy he could never beat is like saying a dude with a knife has no chance of killing anyone just because he got shot with a gun.

So is Sylvanas, who successfully 1v1’d the Lich King.
