I genuinely don’t understand… why all the classic testing and prolonged wait for release?? Why is blizz having such a hard time releasing something that they released OVER 10 YEARS AGO. if they are planning on it coming out the same way it was back then… why the hell are they still “developing” it… People have released vanilla wow on private servers just for fun and the company itself is struggling to do the same ? whats the deal?
lol
They aren’t Tony Stark
They’re not just plopping down an old 1.12 client, they have to update all the backends.
Watch this
It’s an old game on a new client with a patch that’s pulling from a few different points in time. They’re creating Frankenstein which takes some time to figure out what to do and how to do it, and once that’s done bug testing needs to be worked out and other such things. It’s not like picking an old game off the shelf and dusting it off. This isn’t the same game you played.
Touching on why these are nessasary vanilla wow had no were as near as many players as they will on re release so basically nothing would work
What are you talking about?
Besides, they said “summer” and it’s not even summer yet, let alone the end of summer. Until September, they’ll still be on schedule. If it hasn’t been released by August or so, then we can whine.
What delay? What’s the rush? School getting out soon for summer break?
right now its family and friends then beta soon and id say by the end of aug we will have classic.
i can wait until then.
dude, thanks for posting this. I’m half way through it but it’s super interesting. I’m a web developer so understand a lot of this. Totally get why they can’t “just release, lol”
Summer 2019 is actually early for the original expectations.
Anyone who doesn’t understand this by now is just choosing not to. This has been discussed ad nauseum.
Yes actually and as a parent I am dreading it. I like having my mornings to myself while all the kids are at school.
The deal is that they are not just taking a copy of the 1.12 code base and plopping it onto a server.
They are using the latest codebase and re-framing it to look like 1.12. This gives extra features such as improved bot detection, spam filters, and battle.net integration.
That’s a lot more complicated.
Ask me how I know you’re not a programmer…
Because they’re trying to recreate visuals and coding that was used 15 years ago? It’s the same if you just tried to pop a game CD from the late 90s and expect it to instantly work on a Windows 10 machine without a VM or Compatibility Mode.
That, and there may be a few QoL changes they could make without upsetting the feeling of Vanilla.
I know. Two posts, and this is one of them?
Are you okay?
What delay???
