Instead of being subscription-based to where we’re wasting our money on something some of us can’t afford, why not switch it to where we pay for it once and play the rest of the game for free?
Gee, why would a company that makes most of it’s money off subscriptions not want to get rid of subscriptions

Oh you mean like a console game where you play the game in a matter of days or maybe weeks then you have nothing to do because there is no more content until they release the next game for you to blow through .

IF you can’t afford 20 dollars a month on a sub. You should be out there IMPROVING your financial situation and NOT playing a video game.

Nah, I’m good.
Because it’s a live service game and that have to make their money to continue running servers, continue updating content, continue paying their staff, etc. And lets be honest, people grossly detest most free to play or pay once to play game models because they come with negatively seen microtransactions that players dont want to see. (Cosmetics and mounts are fine.)
Why do you think the most active of MMOs are subscription based?
Particularly FF XIV, WoW, and ESO.

Because the servers wouldn’t stop needing to be maintained after the initial purchase.
WoW, like most MMOs, keeps the entire world loaded, at all times. This is in contrast to the games you’re probably thinking of, like Overwatch or CoD, which create maps on an as-needed basis.

The sub fee is for the staff to continue working on and growing the game. It’s not like a video game.

Not being mean being very blunt. If you can’t afford $15 a month you need to look at what you’re spending money on or get a better job. If retired and can’t afford I understand I don’t know what to tell those people.

Services are rarely free.
- You pay for, or lease, your phone, then pay monthly for service.
- You pay for your electronic devices that use internet, then pay monthly for internet service.
- You pay monthly to use a gym to cover staff, upkeep, equipment replacements, etc. You also pay separately for classes and gear if needed.
Most things in life have costs. It costs $14.99 USD for WoW access and that price has not changed in the US since 2004.
People pay it because for $14.99 WOW gives unlimited access each month to a form of entertainment some people like. We also get frequent updates in content during the two years of the expansion. You can consult the road map they published to see what it covered for the costs.

I think the subscription is still in place to keep the forums active with subscription quandaries, complaints and suggestions. The forums would be dead without the sub. Everyone would be completely happy.
