Short answer : Because of gatekeepers and how bad the LFG tool actually is.
We as a community need to be held accountable for our actions and with accountability comes what some of us don’t want and what some of do want which is RDF
Gatekeepers / Elitist :
Now I’m with the whole philosophy of “if it’s your group you can invite whoever you want” but that shouldn’t be the answer to forming a solid pug to clear a dungeon that will literally take 5 minutes because of skips. You should in fact invite people, but I feel like you should also have class diversity and you should invite off of a first come first serve basis. Not who has the highest gearscore and who can pump the hardest. If you’re doing a UK, UP, OK, or even AN then why does it matter if the person you’re inviting isn’t 5k gearscore? Having that high of a gearscore doesn’t equal skill and inviting someone less than that doesn’t mean that dungeon still isn’t going to get cleared in that amount of time. Especially if you’re following class diversity. Trust me, I’ve been in groups before on my main where we’ve all had above 5k and still wiped due to people not understanding mechanics. Ish happens. We got back up and cleared it still. If you want to continue to gatekeep dungeons and only bring “solid pumpers” then eventually RDF will come out and that whole aspect of forming your own group will die out because it’s much more convenient to hit one button vs pressing a few buttons and moving on. You guys need to take the most accountability and stop this logic of only inviting people with the highest ilvl.
LFG tool :
Now let me say this. The LFG tool is by far the worst tool ever made. It works sometimes and it doesn’t work. If you play on a highly populated server like me (Benediction) then you probably know what I mean. You open up LFG, you see a group forming, you click “request join” only to be stuck there waiting for the leader to make their mind up whether or not to invite to their group. Meanwhile, there’s another group forming in LFG that I could have joined. Instead you get to just miss those opportunities. That’s what I dislike the most about it. If they wanted to add that option to request join, I feel like they should have also added those tools to cancel that request so you’re not stuck there waiting.
Trolls :
Now I know a lot of you know who these people are and let me start off by saying this. Trolls in dungeons are never going to go anywhere. RDF won’t fix someone trolling. You just have to put up with them, ignore them, kick them from the group, and move on. Whether you like it or not. Trolls will be everywhere. You just have to hope the person you’re inviting to group has good intentions and has the same goals as everyone which in most cases that’s what everyone does. So this is a bonus.

It will be added because it was always their plan to add it.
Somewhere in the next couple weeks of lull between ToGC and ICC they’re going to “miraculously” reverse course and announce they’ve decided to add RDF “because the pros outweigh the cons” or some nonsense. Just like they did in 2009

My prediction is around the same time as ICC. The gatekeepers are ruining what LFG was actually intended for. The LFG tool is also ruining what LFG was intended for and the only person responsible for this is ourselves. If we didn’t want RDF we would stop gatekeeping and keeping new players and alts from getting a chance at getting in the dungeons.

The gatekeepers is why I always make my own group and never join others. I’d often list myself as a 4.4k balance druid, get an inv, then get kicked within a few seconds (probably because someone else whispered them with 5k gs).
Just this evening, I formed a group for ANK. 4.4k balance (me), 4.3k ret pally (in half pvp gear), 5.2k warr, 5k dk tank, and priest healer. We get to the first mob group, priest whispers “do you kick this pally or not?”. I reply that I’m not kicking them. They whisper “well i am out. not doing hc ++ with 4,3k pvp gs n00b” and drop the group. Tank follows shortly after.
I relist the group, find another healer but can’t find a tank. I end up swapping over to my pally and we get another balance druid. 15 minutes later, we complete the dungeon without any issue. I ended up spending more time looking for people to assemble the group than actually in the dungeon.

The gatekeeping has made me not even want to do dungeons and all I do is raid log, then just play other games instead of running dungeons like I would do if there was RDF. I would probably level alts with RDF too.

I really wish people would just play the game with others instead of only caring about high parses and insult people with low parses. This is part of whats wrong and why the community is so elitist. Just play with others and help them instead of saying how bad they are because they don’t have a certain number hit on a website. It’s easy to insult others when your class is A to S tier the whole expansion in DPS rankings.
I’m doing Ulduar 25 right now with my guild on my DK alt and actually doing more dps for single target than on my main… 500 gs less and the class is clearly just better at single target

I don’t care for parses personally, but when people come at me acting like they’re the best players in WoW. I tend to do a background check to see if they’re spitting facts or they’re just putting on a façade because the dungeon isn’t going in their favor. Trust me. I got better things to do than be an elitist. I like to give everyone an equal opportunity.

Id actually level more alts from 1-80 instead of just the 4 characters I have leveled over the last 4 years

I’d see it returning in cata. It will be needed for 1 to 80 for leveling is my reason.
2 new races will not spur a massive 1 to 60 revival. 1 to 60’s issues will get worse in cata. And 60 to 80 too, its not like this gets better for some servers.
Even casuals like me have 4 80’s. 5 if I take an assumed cata boost and boost a shadow priest. Then I’d be done. I’d ahve all I want. classes not leveled I know from retail are jsut not classes I enjoy running. If I won’t level them in way faster retail…I won’t here.
One can look at retail numbers to see that. These at this point are racial numbers for all of wow over 17 years. Time has not been kind to worgen or goblins.
It took the addition of AR’s to get goblins and worgen to move up more out of the basement of population rank a few spots.

Yay! They are more common than kul tirans. that is not a win. KT is a race whose numbers are low for 2 reasons.
The “powerlifter” body didn’t win massive fan numbers. and locked (till 10.1.5, real soon) behind a convoluted quest setup so many said man I ain’t doing this for a fatty.
Now the fun of 10.1.5 to come is…does KT put worgen in the basement…again. NGL, the druid forms are nice for them. If still caring about retail I’d roll one.
I can stay in “kitty” form to not see the “powerlifter” form lol. And thus I fix an issue I ahd with KT race. Kitty KT druid form is nice to my eyes.
I’d see as few making KT druids for druid forms alone.
Nothing could be more true… those type of people are generally looking for gear to carry them into not having to play properly…
Honestly, if I could snap my figures and change three things about WoW… it would be the existence of WCL and parsing as a concept, the public knowledge and viewability of iLvL, and add-ons as a thing. Though for that last one to be a go I imagine we would gain ElvUI customization level by default, some Blizzard weakaura (something that is much more controllable and easier for Blizz to break or disallow things. Such as the warrior weakauras that let you macro heroic strike into everything and simply wouldn’t cast it unless you were at a certain amount of rage or the slam one that wouldn’t cast slam unless it was instant), and some form of native damage and threat meter.
On the thread topic gatekeeping… yeah it has gotten bad. Just the other day I was turned away from an Algalon group on my alt. Said alt was a 5k gs diss priest with a history of killing Algalon and parses blue and purple… reason given… my parse was not good enough… like I don’t even.

Yeah the parsing is stupid imo. My guild actually does logs and looks at parses, I’m sure mine aren’t the best but I don’t care and they still invite me to the heroic and hard man runs because they say I play well.

I will say this : things like WCLs are nice to have because you can look at it, see where your damage is, and compare to others who are on there. The addons that tell you your gearscore like tacotips are also nice to have because it tells you what your ilvl is and your gearscore. These are consider nothing more than just luxury items and when these get into the wrong hands of players. That’s when it becomes very abusive and very manipulative. You shouldn’t have to tell someone your gearscore just to get into a H++. That’s not what the addon was the designed for and H++ was definitely not designed for players to also do nothing but take the highest gearscored players they could possibly find. I get people want to take the path of least resistance because they want to get the dungeon done and move onto the next. I get that completely because I also like to take that path too, but I’m not going to just completely disregard another player because their “gearscore” doesn’t meet the expectations of other players. Who cares? That dungeon is going to be done so fast that their gear won’t even matter and if the player is an experienced player on an alt then gearscore really shouldn’t matter. The gear doesn’t make the player. The player makes the player. I can see players wanting WCL information to see experience, but you shouldn’t look down upon a player for not having logs up to your standards because WCLs don’t track everything and if you’re competing against other players for like the first couple weeks of a new content phase. Your logs are not going to be the best right away.

They may be getting an early start before forced to when Raider io comes to classic. Or whatever some want to call it.

When GS was not enough detail and players wanted more, raider io obliged.
