Its actually quite simple-
Their damage is always doing full damage to every target around them because unlike revenge, swipe, faerie fire, and thunder clap…its not reduced for large groups or by armor/magic resist/damage reduction on targets. Both shield of the righteous and consecration are unaffected by the standard aoe damage reduction/cap formulas, and abilities auch as avengers shield offer silence, damage, slow, debuff, shield/healing and interrupt qualities. Its like having shield charge do all of that. The other issue is they are not reliant on random procs to do extra damage such as sudden death and don’t have to give up a top tier defensive talent( or 3 of them) to do their best damage.
Basically either
A. Prot paladin has to be brought down to the slog that other tanks are by capping aoe damage and moving the best talents all to shared spots.
Or.
B. All other tanks need full damage on AoE targets and all their “choice” talents merged or moved around to allow for higher damage output while also having equal or higher self sustain and damage reduction as right now.
The ability to precast damage like how consecration covers a area for free in advance or as part of a normal rotation also needs to be addressed, as well as how holy/radiant damage works vs physical and bleeds.
Every Role should be like NASCAR: every Role should have stylized abilities and strengths that put them on par with each other. If you need a tank, they can all do any job. If you need a healer, same thing. If you need DPS, they all pump damage at the same level in different ways.
If you want to play a meta, roll a meta. You picked rogue for the same reasons everyone does… even me. Now you live with it. Ask to be buffed, but NO ONE should ask for nerfs.
I just cannot see the common sense in asking for Nerfs. I made another thread where we take the strongest Tank, DPS, and Healer, and then make sure every other class and spec’s role matches everything with those top 3, but in their own flavor. They do not need the same spells, but my Pally’s “Lay On Hands” is an instant full heal. Every tank should have one. If Shaman can cleanse something specific, give every healer that utility. Makes more sense to put all role specs on par with each other.
It’s simple. Paladin is the most popular class by far (usually the case in other games too, see BG3, Guild Wars 2, etc)
They wont nerf them. The outcry would be immense. Even mentioning paladin nerfs gets you flames here. Likely, your thread has already been reported by the huge paladin population. It’ll get locked soon, just like the other thread that called out paladins insane damage.
I’d love for other tanks to have their damage uncapped. Hell, brewmaster would settle for a tiny 10% increased range on keg smash so that it actually hits the entire pack on pull.
But that’s probably not gonna happen mid season. Maybe next season. For now, enjoy getting declined from higher tier keys because you didn’t choose to main to correct tank class this season.
I don’t play prot, and I hate healing them. But anyway, there’s another option. It’s a pve game. I’ll tell you the same thing I told people when they were crying over vdh during dragonflight. This is a cooperative MMO. The last thing anyone should ever be doing is talking about nerfing a tank ffs
The only reason you would call for a nerf is if it impacted significantly the playing of other classes.
In this case, it does. If equal ilvl and skilled tanks queue up for a m+, one a paladin and the other a BDK/DH/Brew then the group is going to grab the paladin.
Or even worse, you q as one of those and they just ignore your invite. Imagine getting declined to a +10 as a Brewmaster with 2800 io because some chucklehead is metabrained.
If you have to heal a prot pally… THEY are doing it wrong. When I look at healing at the end of a run, I am usually #2 behind the healer. ProtPals have enough utility in their rotation between Holy Power and the OSB Lay On Hands, plus the heals from Consecration… a healer should be yawning while looking at a Pally… unless they have Hunters and Mages for DPS, then they are reactively healing folks that love to stand in the bad
That’s just the thing though, this scenario basically just doesn’t happen with the tank role until you get to gigakeys. There’s a few dozen keys posted, and about a third as many tanks available, if that. We are taking whatever comes down the pike usually, unless it’s a push key.
