Why player housing?

I see it mentioned ALL the time, but don’t get the “ultimate” attraction. What’s the point?

Sure it would be nice to have my own little plot. My brain just goes: WoD sideways.

What am I missing here?

I don’t think there is a valid point that will appease everyone, it is just a fun addition to the game that some players would enjoy.

It’s mostly people wanting a physical (well, as physical as anything can be in this game) representation of something they own with most people who want it pointing to the systems like Wildstar and FF which offer a ton of customization so every house is truly unique.

But it’s not a desire I personally share, mainly because I don’t think Blizzard would be able to deliver a version of housing that’d actually make the people who want it happy. We’d either get Garrisons 2.0, or it’d be a half-baked version made as a passion project by a dev who somehow had spare time.

I’ve never really understood the demand for it, myself. I mean, it would be neat to be able to design my own living space… but what am I going to do with it? Sit and look at it? I dunno.

it’s just another game system, one that ultimately ends up feeding a cash store

better that time and effort be spent on content

While the Garrison was a good idea it just lacked the homey touch a player could do with it…like putting in curtains…rugs…armor stands with armor we have collected over the years…weapons stand…these things could be made by other professions and would bring gold to the player base and give others things to do in the world out there with collecting mats and making things for a home site…just my take on it.

Yes, I get that absolutely! I can think of a dozen places I’d love one, but the coding and work for that compared to what we really need doesn’t make sense.

So, we go home instead of an inn? Grow gardens (been there, done that) ?

i want a necromancy tower for my death knight for my roleplay

like a ziggurat on top of a frickin mage tower pls

maybe a lil acherus

I think a guild zone with housing on it, with it’s own guild auction house and guild points to spend with guild quests the guild leader can program would be awesome.

We need to to help guilds come together and be more home like and less toxic. That will help more then having a personal cottage out in a zone no one can get to and you have to go out of your way to share.

We need to encorage more healthy community spaces.

Arrange our homes as we see fit, I’d love to see something like RIFT or EQ2 where we could get portions of a zone all to ourselves, perhaps we could build our own little village place trees where we would like, add some shrubbery.

Send knights out to get shrubbery - you know that sort of fun stuff :hugs:

I think a lot of people who want player housing don’t really think about that.

To do it right is a LOOOOT of work. It’s not something some dev can crank out over the weekend. Like Garrisons were extremely feature light in regards to player housing, and they still set back WoD development by a huge amount.

And there’s no way that Blizzard are going to dedicate functionally half an expansions worth of development to an optional feature that much of the playerbase would practically ignore if there wasn’t any direct incentive to have a house.

It is a role playing game, and my characters would love a place to call their own, even if it was just a one room place in Stormwind.

Sure, there are inns, but with like two rooms? Not enough room for everyone. It is a world with teleportation - let me quickly port home for a good night’s rest, then head back out to battle.

Not much experience with player housing other than EQ and EQ2, but I would love to have something like either of those in WoW.

Plus the tools set in the game could be used for other aspects of gameplay, maneuvering objects around in the world and so on. One interesting thing that I read about a while ago, was user generated dungeons using I think the player housing tools - I believe that was EQ2 that had done that, it has been a while so my memory is a bit off. Regardless, it is a nice way to keep content fresh and give players their own outlet for creativity.

But yeah, in Rift I had my own little village I had created, along with one home that was set in a forest in a tree I had placed and enlarged - it was pretty cool, it had a little elevator going up to it and I spent hours just building it and hanging around. I also loved to explore other people’s creations. I enjoyed the rating system they had in place for people, and reading of what people had created while I browsed the web - as well as the guides and so on. It was just pointless fun, something that kept me entertained.

I had my own dimension on my other game. I could put dps dummies in there so I didnt have to go test in public areas. We could decorate for holidays. Crafters were able to craft dimension items. I’ts nice to have.

Player housing brings another thing to customize in a world where most of it is fixed and unchanging.

Housing would be yet another optional feature like pet battles or transmogs. Just another thing for people to obsess over.

Ok, but what if they had done this instead of creating Korthia?

That’d be a huge win all around.
