Why player housing won't work

If player housing fails it’ll be from them not supporting it past the expac.

Lol pretty much.

It’s the only place where spreadsheet andies get their dopamine from.

I want my house to join me on my adventures.

“Who is that?” “Oh him? That is house.”

Baba Yaga style house jousting!!

Playing other MMOs with housing I’ve found they all have something or other I would like to see better done or done differently. However I’ve found I can work with any number of housing systems and be satisfied. My main hope is that housing isn’t tied too heavily to the cash shop, as is the case in one game I play, and that decent houses and items are available in game whether as rewards or for gold.

i almost wish it ends up being a greedy flop so i can use it as an example in the future lol

Nobody knows anything about it. At all. It’s all speculation at this point.

“Why can your house move?”
“It’s a LEG-endary.”

“Hey guys we cant be perfect for every niche of player so lets just forget about it” “Good idea bob lets all go home”

WoW closes due to 1 guy not liking the new raid.

They have been adding tons of furnishing items in the last 2-3 years I think housing will be amazing for crafting. And even make it nice for raiders if they take the FF14 route where mythic boss x drops y material that can be made into trophy z and sold on AH

Or, as controversial as it may be, you could just try to make the majority of people happy and do it anyway.

You cant make everyone happy. Let’s get that outta the way now. It is 100% impossible to make everyone happy. However, you can ABSOLUTELY make some people happy!

Much like the addition of companion battling, mount collecting, or even people who just PvP endlessly to prove they’re the best, it’s an extra experience that you can do.

Not everyone will like it, but you also have the option to NOT do it, ya know? Just because you CAN doesn’t make it mandatory. So if you don’t feel the housing style suits your taste, then you could always choose to just not have, or maintain a house(depending on how its obtained.)

That would never happen…

**cough cough ** Archeology, Garrisons, every currency ever produced, etc

The best will be when the people saying they’re fine with cash shop things will suddenly change their feelings on that once an item they want is added to it. Then suddenly it becomes a cAsHgRaB.

How defeatist…

By this logic the game shouldn’t even exist…

exactly.

I would say with the plethora of plethora of plethora of feedback they got from garrisons; whether they were a testing ground for housing or not, this official go around of it should be A-OK. And if its not, then they scrap it and try again or just continue to build on it.

However, ya’ll acting like they just shouldn’t even try is completely bonkers. -____-

P.S WoW didn’t start off with alot of stuff that people now enjoy today such as furry races, certain content etc. How lame would it had been for it never to have started at all.

Time will tell I suppose. One thing is for certain, player housing will be evergreen content.

You’re not completely wrong OP, but because folks decide to create their idea of what Blizzard should make doesn’t mean that it doesn’t work necessarily. Sometime people are stubborn especially when they don’t get their way /pout.

seeing as blizz has just been re using old assets for some time i’ll call it now > player housing will be a rehash of your old garrison with some new wallpaper and some hangers to put stuff on the walls.

If I get stuck with an apartment or even worse, a garage apartment I am not going to be happy

The question of what’s a realistic expectation isn’t quite so outrageous… but it’ll still be an uphill battle with a LOT of issues. But the targets are not “impossible”, or at least don’t appear to be at the outset.

In it end, it will come down to “match the competition”.
Beating them would be ideal, but meeting them would be “enough”.

As I’m most familiar with FFXIV’s housing system, I use that as the main point of comparison in terms of functionality. The ability to place most objects just about anywhere within some broad parameters based on type of item. Some are wall-only, some are on the floor, some can be placed on tables, rugs can be placed under other things, and so on. So long as they can match that, players will (mostly) be happy.

The one thing I would strongly recommend is to avoid the biggest issue with FFXIV’s system from the outset - make housing a personal instance, don’t limit the number of plots available.

I’d also strongly recommend keeping the store away from it as much as possible; I expect something (because of course they will, not even FFXIV is innocent in this), but too much will be an automatic issue. If the store becomes an integral element with items - or worse, needing to pay more for actual features? That’s my biggest fear here, that they’ll try to turn it into another cash cow. Because, frankly, that’ll kill interest in the feature for me.

It’s definitely a feature Blizz MUST get right… because if they don’t, they never hear the end of it. At least they could say Garrisons were never intended to be actual player housing in the first place, but that won’t be saving them this time.

I want a double decker trailer, complete with pink flamingos, cars on wheels, tornados and a velvet picture of Elvis playing cards with 3 dogs.
