I can see why people dont like free to pay games and why they dont play them. What i dont understand is why we have to have this conversation every time a high profile one comes out. Or how some people in this thread are saying anyone whos not avidly against these types of things are part of the problem. People cant be neutral on anything on the internet it seems.
Or designed it.
its more predatory than korean p2w all i needed to find out to say nope not for me.
Been playing Diablo Immortal and it’s solid. I plan on spending $0 and this is probably one of the best mobile games out there in regards to gameplay.
It’s definitely P2W but I ain’t out there trying to spend even $1 to be the best on phone Diablo. Gonna keep playing while I take dumps and stuck in zoom meetings.
Just personal soap box:
Stop using this term. If you don’t know what a skinner box is, have never seen a skinner box and never actually used a skinner box then just stop. All video games are skinner boxes as is most of our society.
That awkward moment when someone demands you stop using a term because “you’re using it incorrectly” only to confirm later that you are 100% using the term correctly.
Sorry y’all P2Wieners are feeling called out.
Yeah ive noticed alot of people use terms like skinner box, predatory business practices, china as a way to broadcast that they think something is bad without actually having to say why.
Ok… so you agree Mario Brothers on NES is a Skinner box then? And therefore this isn’t a negative term unless you think all video games are negative?
Yes, regurgitating what they heard from somebody else is quite popular.
This is a bit trolly of me, but this is the face I imagine people upset about F2P games being P2W in 2022 are making:
Cool story. It still bothers alot of gamers. And they should continue to complain and stop playing those games.
If the game supports itself on whales then it’ll continue to exist. If not it’ll fail. Like any other business.
Diablo immortal is a special case, most of not all Diablo fans aren’t a fan of p2W and they will complain about it.
If Diablo immortal was from a different ip and came from mobile games no one would bat an eye since it’s literally just like any other mobile mmo type game.
The majority get to speak on this topic and they are very clearly against Diablo going in this direction, even from the announcement before the cash shop stuff was revealed.
It is what it is.
Oh wow. That’s clever…
I made it clear it’s just my opinion.
The majority? Are you sure about that? Also, D4 should be out in a year or so. It’s not going to be a F2P P2W game.
I don’t have an issue with FTP as long as the monetization isn’t gross play to win and in your face. I’ve played plenty of fun FTP games that are fun and not play to win.
Yes it’s like obvious.
How much reassurance do you need?
It is funny seeing all these people losing their minds over a free to play mobile game.
It’s free.
I’m playing it, for free, without spending a dime.
So far I’ve put in about 6 hours, and I’ve had 6 hours of fun. And In plan to play some more when I get time.
Why would I be mad? That do I have to be mad about?
People seem so fixated on how much money you can spend.
That’s the wrong outlook.
For example, Asmongold did a stream with a “money spent” counter and buying everything. Such a toxic outlook. Obviously going into it with the expectation of getting mad over micro transactions.
He should have gone in and evaluated how good or bad the game is 100% free. That’s ultimately the main factor.
Every single F2P mobile game like this is the same. If you don’t spend any money, you WILL be a punching bag for the whales. It’s a fact.
How is a whale going to punch me in PVE?
Jimmy spending $300 isn’t altering my experience inside a solo dungeon.
As long as there’s no “you’ve done 1 dungeon today. come back tomorrow or spend $1.99” then I’m good with it. So far I’ve not encountered that. I’m unconcerned with what money gets you, I am only concerned with what not buying excludes.
Enjoy hitting a hard wall with progression I guess.
This thread is why these things get normalized.
Exactly, the companies are only half responsible for predatory and aggressive monetization. The other half falls squarely on gullible and indifferent players who actually think this kind of thing isn’t a problem.
