Why P2W doesn't bother me too much

It’s literally just the same competitive mindset seen in PvP Games applied to other games they’re playing. Nothing horrible about that at all. Not how everyone approaches games, but that’s fine. Still nothing wrong with it.

The insidious part is that everybody has a different definition of “pay to win”. If the game is designed with a time-consuming tedious grind that you can eliminate by buying an item in the cash shop, is that pay to win if the game is Diablo Immortal, where you can drop a huge amount of cash to get bis gear today, but not wow, where you can buy tokens to skip past all the boring stuff? In both cases the mechanic is designed into the game.

I don’t think people are surprised by it. People are tired of that kind of monetization. Because it’s not cost up front. It’s something that chips away at how much you pay for it and certain things can end up costing thousands of dollars over time, just to upgrade.

People are just tired of the gouging.

AAA and integrity went out the window long ago. So those people are just looking at things through narrow focus.

If that were true they’d have released it regionally like Marvel did with Super War. The model works best in other regions and not in the West as much. But people still pay a lot here for mobile games. It’s just not as popular and is getting push back constantly here, and in Europe. Europe even more, because they are starting to develop laws against loot boxes.

Most of the burn for that will be felt in endgame and PVP. Like it always is for p2w games.

There’s even a term for those that spend that much in those games, Krakens.

this seems like more of a topic for the Diablo forums, not WoW forums. I see absolutely nothing in your OP in regards to Warcraft, rather it’s solely a post about Diablo Immortal.

POE is the only one that enforces… these are P2W whether you like it or not, they’re actively part of the game.

Cancel your sub, fine. I don’t know you at all, so I personally don’t care at all, but know this… no matter what game you go to play… there will be some sort of P2W. A lot of people including myself are not fans of P2W. You can act all high and mighty all you want… you ain’t part of the solution, so know your place… in the back, whining. I’ve just accepted that people are going to drop dollars to get ahead in gaming…

Dude piss off, you greedy Blizz apologist.
Most of the gaming industry is corrupt with predatory monetization and at least GGG bans people while Blizz officially endorses it.

“in the back whining”
Dude piss off. Look at the amount of heat Diablo Immoral is getting, rightfully so. Cancelling my sub is part of the solution to this madness, on top of quitting D3 years ago.

Defending Diablo Immoral in any way is a sign that you’re a drooling NPC and it’s pathetic, on top of apathetic.

At least there are some gamers thankfully that still care about the industry and I can only hope more people start to call out Actiblizz on their greed and predation.

This. Games not originally “sold” or marketted as pay to win should never become pay to win in the future. It feels like a con to invest in a game for potentially years where personally growth has nothing to do with how much you swipe your wallet and then bam next thing you know if you don’t pay up it means nothing. Honestly should be laws against that but video ganes and mmos/evolving games are so new and laws are slow to catch up with the times. But I feel like if it was any other product it would be banned. I know lots of friends who still miss everquest/2.

I love how you assume right away that, I’m a blizz apologist because you’re mad I take a neutral stance. Relax, go see a doctor.

I don’t care what you did, you’re just some whiny kid on the internet acting like his voice means something. It doesn’t… you go about this the wrong way, you are aggressive and angry. Also just because I’ve accepted that blizzard isn’t what it used to be and has become… you know, not good? Doesn’t mean I support their practices.

When did I defend it? Lol. I just stated in the post you responded to that I don’t care for P2W.

Gamers like you are the problem… you whine and cry all the time thinking it’s gonna make a change… and just because you “care” doesn’t mean I don’t.

Imagine if no one ever spoke up or said anything; Shadowlands would be even in a worse state than it is.

The fact that you have to associate words like “whine” and “cry” to members of the community who criticize Blizz for officially endorsing monetary predation makes me call BS on your supposed “neutrality”.

If you think people not speaking up is not making a change it’s time to look at the amount of big voices in the gaming industry calling them out over this crap. Please go tell them they’re not doing any good, you muppet.

You think whining on the forum did that? Lol. They don’t pay much attention to the forum… they seen all the backlash in-game, loss of subs and content creators complaining.

No I am specifically aiming them at you… because well, you started out aggressively whining and cry in response to me and my neutrality.

I don’t… I just think you’re too emotional for no reason. Speak up, but be an adult at the same time, nothing wrong with having a discussion, but don’t come at me like that. You can’t hurt my feelings and I’ve clearly hurt yours.

“just accept it as normal practice” is a far cry from neutrality.

I will come at you like that for what you said above, telling people to just accept it is a massive part of the problem…normalizing this greed and predation.
Statements like that need and deserved to be called out.

You clearly don’t understand what neutrality is… because guess what… P2W has become the norm, it doesn’t matter what we like… if people are willing to pay, there will be P2W but I know that’s hard for someone as simple as you to understand. In a perfect world P2W wouldn’t exist and gaming companies would all make amazing games.

Plus, if you are going to quote me, don’t take a sentence and ignore the context of it. You only help my case that way.

That’s fine at least we all know what you are… and I will continue to make you look like an idiot. You are going around attacking people for not whining and crying like you are. You keep ignoring sections of what I write because you know they go against what you are saying about me… but keep creating a false narrative, because it is quite amusing.

People can speak from their own experiences and anecdotes till they’re blue in the face, it doesn’t mean this type of game design is OK or that we should accept it. Just because many of us are from an older generation where our impulse control is tempered, we must realize and understand we’re now on a second generation of kids being raised with this sort of game development is being normalized. It’s predatory, calculated, and the Skinner Box design is 100% meant to prey on children(the target audience of gaming) and those with poor impulse control and mental health issues.

Just because YOU’RE ok with it and can do the mental gymnastics to justify your engagement with this terrible system, doesn’t mean that IT’S OK in the broad sense and the long term.

None of the content is locked behind a paywall. Any new content will not be locked behind a paywall.

I made it clear that this was just my opinion. You might want to get off your high horse. You aren’t better than anyone else.

i usually find those that defend p2w usually are the ones paying 2 win.

That’s my plan with every game I play.

Sadly, this is true.
