Why P2W doesn't bother me too much

Yeah. The downside to DI being so awfully monetized is that I feel actively discouraged from spending any money whatsoever. I normally like to support game developers financially, but DI’s monetization isn’t designed to be fair or definitive.

There’s no point in the spending where I can say, “ok, I’ve paid my fair price for the product as a customer, now I can stop”. Instead, it is designed to screw with my head and drain my wallet. So, I am forgoing my usual financial investment, and my emotional attachment along with it, to play completely for free until the paywall makes it unbearable to play anymore.

This concept is going to be expanded upon in the Blizzard products.

Didn’t someone do the math and it turns out you need about $150,000 to fully upgrade a toon in Diablo immoral? Lmao.

The game is designed to psychologically pray on peoples dopamine response, this is in all mobile and gatcha games, this is in Genshin Impact as well as other psuedo mobile games. Its not a issue for me of am I rally ok with a game ‘deisgned’ to manipulate me not just by ‘oh well thats a cool skin for $25’ its designed currently to where you can not reach your potential as a FTP player without spending money period. Bellular and several others broke down the math via datamining and its something like $100k(because there are legendary item levels 1-5 and you can only get up to level 2 FTP 3-5 are locked behind monetization) and even if you wanna be fully optimal as FTP(fully kitted in level 2) it would take I think a decade of time. Since people are asking for sources I’m sure many of you have seen this already https://youtu.be/0Y3Lb25MKqc breakdown of the monetization starts at 16:57. I enjoy the game mechanically but I don’t know if I wanna invest that much time in a game and have no way to ever(currently things can change its a Netease game so probably not) be as good as chad whale who spent 5k on a mobile game.

I will continue to enjoy the free game.

And likewise, I hope you enjoy spreading misery because you can’t stand to see people enjoying something you don’t.

You couldn’t even provide an example of where I will hit a road block. You’re just regurgitating what your favorite content creator told you.

Because I don’t agree with you, I can’t think for myself. Sound logic.

No.
My logic is that you’ve added no context. You’re literally just repeating the popular opinion. It’s as if you only talk in headlines. You provide no body.

So mobile games aren’t notorious for predatory P2W tactics? Diablo Immortal is just like any other P2W mobile game.

Does me having fun playing DI bother you?

These are my thoughts too. The “you have to spend $XXX to get all the best things in game!” thing is exceptionally bizarre to me. I have never picked up (or downloaded) a game and have the first thought be “how much will have to spend to not actually have to play the game.” It’s weird. I am thoroughly enjoying DI right now but if there comes a time where I am not anymore… I will just stop playing.

I am sorry you just CANT be ok with predatory behavior.
Look at GGG and PoE, thats how you monetize a game and can still be amazongly profitable.
Blizzard is big, tbey could had done a imesurable favor to mobile gaming monetizing DI using the same lines GGG does to PoE.
They could had changed the industry FOREVER.
But… they lack the corage and did what the blizzard haters like to say, they just bend the knee to their chinese overlords.
I am looking foqard for PoE mobile because I sure as hell will not play a game with predatory business behavior, not that I dont want to, I ould love play DI, but it is just pointless even for a filthy casual as myself.

What even was the point of this post? “I only care about cosmetics instead of power so P2W MTX doesn’t bother me, the end.”

What does any of this add to the conversation beyond your personal, insanely unpopular opinion? You’ve not defended the game in any way, just stated your own feelings with no real purpose behind it.

Supporting P2W game design in any form is morally wrong, there is no justifiable excuse for your opinion on this. You might as well just edit your post to call yourself a careless shill. By showing even a modicum of carelessness, or even support for games with these kinds of practices, you only perpetuate a predatory business practice, and increase the likelihood of seeing more of it spread to other games. Think more about your opinions before you publicly announce them, because people like you are hurting the entire industry.

online gambling is illegal in the US and its about time our laws were updated to include predatory garbage like mobile gaming.

I mean… theres no way anyone can quantify forums representation to in game feelings… not even blizzard.

It is true, you dont come across as neutral or even even-tempered with your word choices.

I can just play D3 to scratch the itch without being pestered with microtransactions. :man_shrugging:

I agree but we have lobbying groups in the US who WILL NEVER let that happen to many hands in too many pockets.

I don’t care about all the P2W stuff because DI is just a video game. Futhernore, I don’t play games to be competitive. My goals in all the games I play is never to go all out to obtain the best gear and have the highest ratings. I just want to have fun. I’m having fun with DI right now so the P2W stuff isn’t bothering me.

Also, it’s ok to have unpopilar opinions. Should I not think for myself and just conform to the majority opinion?

I’m ok with being part of the problem. So many of you act so high and mighty, I find it laughable.

Is it fun being a contrarian? Since there are so many like you on the Internet, it has to be.

That mean’s absolutely nothing. The problem is you supporting a business practice that is designed solely to be predatory, and take advantage of people for profit. It’s like saying you don’t care about poverty because you’re comfortable living in a shoebox. Your opinion isn’t just unpopular, its downright immoral and irresponsible, and frankly disgusting.

Once republican boomers get enough wind of this it might change. People in a lot of areas are still very religious and against gambling. Considering video games target kids there could be quite a lot of backing for regulation. If enough people contact their representatives and tell them to “BAN VIDEO GAME GAMBLING” it will start the ball rolling. These companies are literally acting like drug dealers and casinos with almost no regulations.

The only issue is a lack of awareness. Since it doesnt look like poker or a slot machine enough people haven’t connected the dots yet. We should compare them to casinos or to drug dealers. BAN VIDEO GAME DRUG DEALERS.
