Why not let every race be every class?

In d&d you can be any race and class combo. Guess what? The world and its lore doesn’t burn down.

In WoD we saw an Orc Druid and a Pandaren Death Knight.

In Legion we saw 2 Night Elf Paladins.

Did you know that in the original lore, only male Night Elves were allowed to be Druids?

You are a Hero. The most special case there is in a fantasy game. You do not represent your entire race, their culture or their capabilities. You represent YOU.

Yes. Many sprinkles. Everything needs sprinkles.

have to agree with that 100%. if you look at it this way you can take any profession with your class. night elf druids can take black smithing and tailoring. doesnt really make any sense as to why you would do that but you can. like you said which i agree with the world doesnt explode.

do you really think if a gnome went to SW and wanted to train as a paladin, that humans would turn them down? I see it as everyone in the alliance wants to help each race in the alliance including training as whatever they want to be. im sure its the same with the horde.

someone said that each races culture frowns on certian classes. like tauren rogues. but look at it this way when pandas join the horde or alliance they are leaving their culture behind to be an “adventurer” to pursue whatever they want.

In lore a gnome warrior would fight much smarter than a Tauren would. They would likely use techniques and tools that a Tauren wouldn’t think to do that would give a huge advantage. Another thing to keep in mind is that small size in itself can be an advantage.

ActivisionBlizzard was created July of 2008. Wrath of the Lich King released later that year. When it was created, it was controlled by Vivendi Games, who already owned Blizzard at the time AB was formed.

AB did not become its own, separate entity until 2015… 7 years after Wrath.

right but the game was still made and the lore was created by the founders of wow and blizzard. metzen, sam etc the same devs that made classic made wraith. an entirely different team made cata and the following expansions.

the lore can be expanded to allow every race to be every class.

Someone will complain regardless.

The lore has changed, that doesn’t mean we should toss it all out the window.

The lore still matters even if you don’t agree with it.

Metzen left in 2016 because… fatherhood.
Ion joined the WoW team during Wrath. Tom Chilton became the Game Director during Wrath too. So those same people were involved through WoD/Legion.

It is actually possible for a demon hunter to be applied to something else besides the Illidari in a similar way that warriors can be applied to different races of other factions. The fundamental trait that charactertizes the nature of a demon hunter is:

“A class defined by being a specialist in hunting demons that gains power from absorbing the essence or magics of other demons”.

This is the fundamental principle that characterizes the nature of the demon hunter class in a similar way that warriors are defined as a melee class that deals in raw up front close combat melee.

You just want to see the world burn

 This meme is getting old.

And the Shen’dralar have still existed since Vanilla. They are Night Elves. Always have been. They were just a caste of magic users. And they reintegrated back into Nelf society when they were needed and certain promises were made. So that one was easy to do.

To an extent. Still has to fit with their culture. Which is why I like this game more than those bland, homogenized others.

Chris Metzen was still in charge of the lore up until around Legion. Alex Afrasiabi is the person who replaced him, and he’s been working on the game since the beginning. It’s not like they dumped everybody all at once and replaced them with entirely new people.

That’s nice and all, but no one is going to waste 98% of the initiates of their race to attempt this. Illidan is gone, the ritual is in fragmented pieces, and no one should be screwing with this stuff again.

They’d also have to make all new animations for different races to do this, because right now, only Belfs and Nelfs have said animations.

Anywho, I don’t want to turn this into a DH debate. :slightly_smiling_face:

Remember. Countless worlds remain conquered by the legion and Sargeras may not be gone forever. There is still a need for demon hunters. Probably always will be.

the race / classes we have now dont make sense. humans, dwarves and dranaei are paladins because they are imbued with the light from the naruu. tauren are paladins from the light of the sun from the earth mother. that makes so sense.

trolls are paladins because they got the power from a loa. really makes no sense, sounds like a made up story to justify tauren and troll paladins which has nothing to do with wow lore.

I believe the word for all this is RETCON.

I find it weird, i’ll say. When I played through the Argus storyline, I would help Illidan kill demons (as a space goat) and always was like "hey I like this garbage I like killing demons, why can’t I be a demon hunter?)

I think LF have a thing called Demon Bane wouldn’t that be so fitting to be a demon hunter? I’m probably missing some lore, and I’m prepared (hah get it) to get beheaded by a lorewalker, but I just wanted to say how cool that would be.

I’m aware. And WoW borrows much from D&D. But it is not D&D.

Also aware, and Blizzard has said that one class / race example isn’t enough to justify the whole race picking it up. And both paladins from Legion were flippin’ abominations.

I’m aware. Doesn’t matter to this discussion.

And we shouldn’t be. In WoW we have always been the adventurer up until recently. We should go back to just being soldiers. Not the almighty hero with smoke blown up our rears.

We have never been soldiers; soldiers remain with their unit and take orders from their commanders. We’ve always been adventurers. Whether we’re money-grubbing murder hobos or the Champions of the Horde/Alliance, the fact that we chose a life on the road, living by our weapons and our wits, over staying home to farm or run an inn or become actual soldiers, makes us outliers by definition.
