its pretty clear the lore blizzard had in classic is gone. we have gross trolls as paladins, cows as paladins, space goats and dwarves as tree hugging shamans, night elves as mages, 2 different kinds of humans as druids.
let gnomes and goblins be druids. just make mecha bears, and mecha cats.
if blood elves can be warriors “which they would never do something so barbaric, they might break a nail. im talking about the male blood elves.” then might as well just say the lore doesnt matter anymore, every race can be every class.
It’s not even a matter of lore not mattering. There’s no physical or mental reason why the vast majority of currently restricted class/race combos couldn’t be lifted.
We already have examples of several of them in the form of non-joke NPCs.
For stuff like Draenei Warlock where it’s super counter to their racial culture, they could even make it a bit more immersive and start you at “Disliked” with your home faction (questgivers would be neutral instead so they don’t ignore you entirely, maybe throw some flavor dialogue or NPC emotes in every once in awhile ala DK intro but not nearly as spammy).
The only 2 restricted combos that make sense in terms of “can this race do this thing?” are Forsaken Paladin and Forsaken Druid. The former is technically possible but would be constant pain so it’s not realistic (the -single- NPC was literally insane). The latter MIGHT be possible, especially since KT Druids basically just use bone-animal forms, it just seems counter to the whole “life magic” thing Druids have going on so I’m not 100% sure if it’s possible.
Seriously though, I’d like some racial lore for the race on why it does and does not work. If they can explain it very well, I’d be happy with letting every race be every class. However, I just don’t see how Undead Druids would work. I mean, it’d be pretty freakin cool to turn into a rotting bear, but I just can’t see it working.
Then again, we have Light Necromancy and Lightbound Undead, so… Who knows?
belive it or not there is actually a forsaken paladin in game. i forget his name but he was one of the founding members of the silver hand. turallian however you spell it was going to kill him as a heretic and when he “looked inside of him” found that he was still imbued with the light.
i think undead bears and cats could def be a thing all they would have to say is they suck the life out of nature and use it as they please. kinda like how blood elves became paladins.
That ship has sailed, come back to port when it realized it forgot its keys, and sailed again.
Any claim to not being ridiculous pretty much went out the window when they ran out of ideas too such an extent that they added panda bear ninjas from an April Fool’s joke.
It’s already been established in lore that a rogue’s stealth is a type of shadow magic. The only thing keeping Tauren and Dreanei from being rogues is the flimsy idea that their cultures frown on them and Blizz not wanting to do it.
Isn’t it just ridiculous?!? Ha, you took the bait. Sorry, couldn’t resist lol. Knew I’d get at least one bite.
Ok, if thats your reasoning you can have any race/class combo added into WoW thats been in the Warcraft series as long as Pandaren, since they were in the strategy games before WoW
And they have been doing that, patch after patch.
Or do we all get to start doing it? Because if you guys get your wish, I’d like to add into the lore that all Vulpera are wiped out of existence, and Ogres with 2 heads join the Horde as a playable race.
It’s because I always use it as an example when making fun of people that try to equate game mechanics and lore. Like, I’ll say, in the lore, a tree wielding 1300 lbs tauren warrior and a 40 lbs gnomish warrior are NOT equals lol However, in the game, their stats are identical.
To start druids aren’t about life, they are about nature and it’s ballance with the arcane, or the natural with the unnatural. Death, is just a part of nature and Kul’tirans show us it isn’t a hard counter to druidism because they are as focused on the death aspect of nature as they are with the life side.
The better argument is that Undeath, which is different from natural death, being completely counter to nature could keep them from being druids.
But you could get around that argument by saying that Undeath is an aspect of the arcane, or unnatural side of the balance a Druid strives for and therefore Forsaken should be able to be druids because they seek to balance their unnatural existance with nature.
