I know Blizz said recently that they aren’t considering letting toons have last names.
Anyone know the reason why?
Too difficult to code?
Tradition?
It would be enjoyable and #FunDetected?
No idea to be honest, but it would be nice to have last names for characters so that we don’t have to use RP addons to have them.

To be a bit cynical, when they bring up something and say they’re not going to do it, often it’s something that’s already in the works.

Very true.
There’s an addon, TRP I think it is, that allows you to create your own profile that will show up to other people who have it, displaying whatever name you’ve selected, and it allows enough room for a longer than 12 character name.

One of the things I loved about SWTOR. Wish more games did that tbh.

What makes sense is that people should have the name of the server they rolled on as their default last name, and a procedure to change that to something more personal.

If they don’t want to bother because of likely abuse (lets be honest, even with just a single name people purposely put in stupid or inflammatory crap for ‘teh lulz’), they could just toss in a new list next to the Titles button with a list of 40 or so race specific/flavored last names to chose from. Then we can chose to have a title or last name.

Yep heck theres addons that let you go really in depth. Write a whole book of rp backstory if you want lol.
Yeah blizz why not last names? Make the naming issues we have go away completely and think of all the renaming tokens you’d sell…

Yeah that’s what TRP does, and can even have you toggle RP on and off if you don’t want to be disturbed. lol (I ‘might have’ dabbled in it for a while) 
I think it’s a coding thing. I see them just not want to undertake more things that they want to so they avoid it like the plague.

I tried to make a tauren name terabull but it was already taken. Ended up with tierabell instead.
Made a nightborne and named her lurakroft with the title the tombraider.
A buddy of mine made a tauran crit chicken milkkins and named a battlepet babymilf. He also had a toon named bathsaltz.
Done a few maros with rp just for fun on abilities here or there to.
My belf pally has a whole belf themed green latern speel when popping wings.
And my belf dk has a speel for army of the dead about raising fallen foes and exes lol.
My main hunters md and fiegn death have some cheeky one liners to.
