Why no Voodoo Themed Class or Specs?

Hey, you’re an IMPOSTER!

Nice name. :stuck_out_tongue:

On-topic:

I’m annoyed we’ve got all these elf-themed specs and stuff (Hunter’s Sentinel and Dark Ranger), yet very little in the flavor of other races.

Hunter is a wasted class for dwarves. Keep hoping they’ll add that gun-themed class that they were talking about in that leak some time ago.

Connection to Elements vs. Ancestors and Loa

  • Shamans: Shamans derive their power primarily from the elemental forces and the spirits of the earth, the air, fire, and water. They communicate with elemental spirits to channel their power and heal or harm.
  • Witch Doctors: Witch Doctors, while they may interact with spirits, focus more on the manipulation of souls, curses, hexes, and the voodoo aspects of their magic. They have more of an emphasis on dealing with the spirits of the dead, spirits that can be controlled or summoned for their own purposes. They also deal heavily with Loa.

Healing Practices

  • Shamans: Shamans heal through the power of the elements, using powers like Healing Wave, Chain Heal, and the Earth Shield, which draw directly from the elements to restore life and vitality.
  • Witch Doctors: Witch Doctors also heal, but their methods are more unconventional and darker, often involving the summoning of spirits or using voodoo magic and the ability to create the illusion of restoring life through their hexes.

. Role in the Warcraft Lore

  • Shamans: Shamans have been part of Warcraft lore since the early games and are often depicted as peacekeepers, spiritual leaders, and guides. They have a strong connection with the world and its balance, as well as being protectors of nature and the elements.
  • Witch Doctors: Witch Doctors have a more isolated and specialized role, often seen as spiritual healers or tricksters in their communities. They work outside of the traditional structure of Shamanism and are more closely associated with curses, hexes, and the dark arts.

Alignment with Nature vs. the Supernatural

  • Shamans: Shamans are aligned with the natural world and the elemental forces of Earth, Air, Fire, and Water. Their power comes from a deep, respectful bond with the natural world and its balance. They strive to protect nature and maintain harmony with the spirits of the land, with a special focus on safeguarding the environment from destructive forces.
  • Witch Doctors: Witch Doctors are more aligned with the supernatural, focusing on spirits, curses, and the undead. They deal with darker entities, and their magic draws more on arcane and spiritual manipulation, rather than the natural forces that Shamans rely on. They frequently exploit the spirits of the dead to serve their own purposes.

Totems vs. Mojo

  • Shamans: Shamans use totems as physical representations of their connection to the elements. These totems are placed strategically to offer buffs, healing, and elemental power to themselves and their allies, creating a link between the Shaman and the forces of nature.
  • Witch Doctors: Witch Doctors use mojo, a form of magical energy that can be infused into objects or used to summon spirits and powers. Mojo often takes the form of talismans, fetishes, and trinkets, which are used to cast spells, summon creatures, or protect the Witch Doctor. Mojo is closely tied to the spirit world, which is an integral part of troll culture. Witch Doctors use mojo to connect with spirits, especially the spirits of ancestors or powerful entities from the afterlife. By tapping into this energy, they can call upon spirits, summon undead minions, or invoke curses. In this sense, mojo is not just a source of power; it’s also a means of maintaining and manipulating spiritual connections, giving Witch Doctors control over supernatural forces.

Real talk though, if Priests got Troll voodoo as a spec, I’d be more interested in it than the pure Light/Void or both thing they’ve got going on. Not nearly as bad as Paladins… but close.

In Vodou there are priests and sorcerers. The stuff in wow is closer to a Bòkò or sorcerer.
