Precisely that. Do nothing because now they are spitting in the face of legitimately well meaning motives by jumping on the bandwagon because they see the LGBT crowd not as people but potential dollar signs on the bottom line. Maybe there are some developers who legitimately believe in these ideas. I won’t doubt it and I feel bad for them that they’re only being heard because “stonks!” You honestly think a corporation gives a damn about your values? Good joke. They only get political or tackle social issues when there’s money to be made.
If you want to posture about it, either make a stand when it is actually a maverick thing to do to drive home the idea you actually do care about these things, or not do it in such a way it comes off as literally grifting off people who aren’t intellectually developed enough to know their values have just become a tool for making money.
Yep this game was clearly not meant for it. It’s a game about war, not sexual preference. All we need to know is who our enemy is and when we can go kill them.
It’s also a game about people, life, relationships, happiness, sorrow, politics, religion, sex. I’m guessing you skip quest text. Fantasy is absolutely a reflection of reality, just in a different skin.
Because it’s literally done in the most lukewarm way possible that it DOES come off as precisely that. It’s done in bad taste and I imagine if people could put aside their woke-vision glasses for a minute and objectively assess why this is being done they’d be just as angry.
But again, the same crowd who likes to complain about exploitation of corporations allows themselves to be exploited by the corporations because the messaging is just right. Who cares if they only did this when it was literally the cool thing to do? At least the messaging is right and they really mean this!
The funny thing is, I’m mad because I feel the LGBT crowd deserves more than this drivel.
Yes, companies exist to make money. That’s doesn’t negate all the other reasons that companies exist though. In my experience, creative types generally care much more about the impact of their art, how it can move people and create emotion, than their paycheck. Of course the world runs on money, but we have seen through lockdown experiences that human relationships are just as important. In fact, to many people, even more important.
Are you kidding? Wow is chock full of Christian representation. The holy light, massive cathedral in sw, priest and paladin class. Ally racial leader is a priest. Need I go on?
Blizzard is not one of these companies. If Bobby Kotick could legally and socially get away with making your keyboard and mouse incompatible with WoW and sell you the proprietary keyboard and mouse that actually does work for the game he’d be right on it.
Blizzard hasn’t given a damn about any good will since 2009 and all of it they have expressed literally has self serving motives in their doing. If you told Kotick to donate 1000 dollars to a charity and not write it off on his taxes he’d recoil like you just asked him to put down a puppy. Though I imagine if you offered him 10 dollars to do it he sure would. Dude would lick botulism off a toilet seat if the price was right.
These are not the people calling the shots. These same people literally get stifled by the higher ups who actually do call the shots and don’t care if they feel it would affect their payout. The only reason they’re being listened to is simply because accountants and marketing have told these higher ups that this is the surefire way to make the most money.
It is absolutely Christian. Anduin is a priest. Velen is a prophet. Anduin is always praying. Massive Catholic looking cathedral in sw. If you can’t see that, then there’s no way I’ll be able to explain it to you.
The simple answer is in Azeroth having lgbt+ characters is “realistic” as in there is nothing in WoW lore that would outright say it doesnt exist. However the various human religion would not/could not develop in the same manner considering WoW would lack the various real world events that actually created said religion.
They should be. After all, why stop with genders and sexual preference. Let’s go full religion and even political parties as well. We all need to be represented equally after all.
